Camila looked at the calendar as she crossed off another day and held her heavily pregnant belly. "Just a few more weeks and you'll see the light of the world pequeño." She told her belly as she was given a few days off of work and then a month off after she gave birth. Camila simply rested a bit and a few days later her coworkers threw her a small but perfect baby shower with a few gifts such as clothing and a few rattles which she accepted gracefully. "You didn't have to." She said as a doctor then raised a glass and said "Anything for employee of the month!" The rest of them cheered as Camila blushed a bit and celebrated with them.
Five weeks Later
Camila vomited in the bathroom as she came down with morning sickness and wiped her mouth clean. "Do you have to eat so much?" She asked her belly which responded with a small kick causing her to grunt a bit. "Strong feet you have." She smiled as she then felt hard painful cramps she knew it was time. Camila then quickly called the hospital and told them about the situation as she had reserved a spot in the delivery room she was asked if she wanted to wait for an E.M.T
"No, I'm heading there right now." At this time usually, the father, friend, or midwife would be driving but Camila knew her husband was busy not to mention she didn't have that many friends as she grabbed the car keys while breathing heavily. "You want fast don't you?" Camila grunted in more pain as she kept her eyes on the road she ended up passing a stop sign as a truck crashed into her causing the car to go off-road and crash into a tree the airbags turned on Camila had cuts on her head, arms, and face as blood leaked from her pants as the sounds of sirens and flashing lights were the last thing she saw before passing out.
Camila then slowly woke up in a bed with IVs connected to her arms and stitches on her face as her head was wrapped with bandages she looked to find a large scar on her torso and stitches on her stomach as a nurse walked in. "How are you doing?" "Que le Paso a mi Bebe"
The nurse looked at her in confusion "Miss do you need a translator? I can get one for you if you..." "What happened to my child!" Camila screamed at him as he looked at her chart before looking at her "I'm sorry." "Sorry? what do you mean you're... no... NO NO NO!"
Camila then screamed before tearing her stitches as the nurse quickly held her down. "I need a sedative ASAP!" He said as a few nurses and a doctor then pinned her down while a needle with an anesthetic was injected into her as she then slumped over into a deep sleep.
Two months later
"Mi Amor ya Tienes Que superarlo," Her husband Mateo said as Camila was silent while eating she ignored him as they went to sleep Camila then woke up and drank coffee as she got into the car. "Fresh air is what I need." She told herself as she decided to simply drive around the block and then go back, rest, and hopefully, she would get over it she looked at the night sky and said "I don't know how this works but... give me a way to have a child please any way you can Por Favor."
She said that her husband then got a vasectomy after Camila was pregnant and promised to only have one child and after the ruckus in the hospital, there was no she would be eligible to adopt she then started to drive around the block thinking about what it would be like to be a parent.
Elsewhere in another dimension
"Can't believe I'm doing this." An orange-haired woman said as she looked at a female basilisk who was holding a basket with a wrapped blanket she then handed the woman a pouch.
"There that should be enough for you." The basilisk said as the woman opened the pouch and a small pile of gold coins fell out. "How did... not going to ask, but I should warn you, humans are going to be afraid if they see you like that."
She then handed the basilisk a large pile of playing cards and snacks. "Here should last you a few months at least, you feast on magic stuff right?" The Basilisk then wrapped herself around the witch. "How can I ever thank you?" "You can start by stopping trying to strangle me and if you..."
The witch was cut short by an arrow and then flew into the house. "No time for thanks I'll hold them off you just go!" She then pulled out a Key as she pressed on it a door opened out of nowhere it shinned while the witch exited the house the sounds of fighting were heard while the Basilisk then went inside with the blanket and soon slithered around feeling the cool breeze of the new world as she slithered across a road looking at the stars as she was then blinded by a bright light as she quickly shoved the basket out of the way.
Camila was slowly tired as she felt a large bump followed by a scream and the sound of something being crunched she stopped the car and got out to find a blue stain on the tires. "Ay Dios mío!" Camila then heard the noise of someone or something in pain as she saw what looked like a large snake as it hissed in pain Camila slowly approached it and almost fainted on what she saw which was a strange creature with a long tail, arms, and fin-like ears, and a forked tongue as it's back was covered with tire tracks as it then coughed out blue blood out of its mouth as it started breathing heavily.
Camila was in shock she was at the point of breaking into tears for this creature she didn't even know she then grabbed its arms dragging it away from the road as it shouted in pain. "Shh, it'll be alright," Camila told it as the creature coughed up more blood Camila examined it and listened to its breathing as its pulse was fading Camila knew that its lungs were punctured and chest bones crushed.
"I'm sorry, god I'm sorry," Camila told it as the creature then placed its hand on Camila's shoulder and said, "You aren't afraid of me?" It asked coughing more and whizzing. "No... not of any animal that needs help." The creature then slowly cried before saying. "Then I trust you, please take care of her."
The Basilisk said before gasping her final breath Camila then broke down in tears as she closed the creature's eyes she heard what sounded like a baby's whines as she found a basket and slowly opened it to find what looked like a small version of the creature with blue fins and eyes at 20 inches as it starred at her with curiosity as Camila looked in and basket and saw a large stack of playing cards and a few oddly shaped cookies as the infant stared crying as Camila then held it in the blanket and cradled it as it slowly fell asleep.
Camila then had no choice but to quickly bury the mother in a pile of leaves as she ditched the car and slowly walked home staring at the strange newborn. "The light of my life, la luz en mi Vida, la..." She then stopped as she looked at the baby and said "Luz yes that sounds good you think?" Luz simply slept as Camila then went inside the house as the light turned on Mateo was sitting in the kitchen his eyes a bit weary as he drank a cup of coffee.
"Mi Amor, what are you doing up so late?" He then responded "It's one in the morning and I hear the car and find that you're gone and I thought that you... what is that?" He asked looking at the basket and blanket she saw holding.
"Well, you see..." Soon Luz started crying again as Camila tried to keep her quiet but it was too late. "Is that a baby?" "Mateo I..." "Answer now." He said sternly as Camila wasn't sure what he would think if she showed him what Luz was she then pulled a card from the basket and gave it to Luz who did something she wasn't expecting... She ate it.
"Please try to understand and don't yell please," Camila told him as she showed him, Luz, as he asked, " I thought you couldn't adopt after what happened?" Camila then looked at Luz who was now a human infant with blue eyes.
"Well, I uh..." "You know what I don't want to know where you got it from just tell me one thing." "What is it?"
"Did you name it yet?" Mateo asked as Camila said, "Luz her name is Luz." She told him as Luz stared at him.
Mateo then picked Luz up and looked at her. "Stange eye color but she's perfectly normal." "We're keeping her?" "We're getting a second chance at being parents." The two then kissed Camila then placed Luz on her lap Mateo then set up a timer camera as they took their first family photo Camila then put Luz back in the basket and into a bottom drawer as the infant was sucking on a pacifier as she slept and she would sleep in the drawer until they found a crib for her and although Camila was happy with Luz she worried about her adopted child's future.
"If the world finds out that she's not... no Camila don't think about that she'll be fine as long as you feed her those weird cards." She thought to herself before going to sleep while outside the orange-haired witch watched them closely with a pair of binoculars. "May the Titan help you, little one?" She said as she started digging a proper grave for the basilisk. "Don't worry I'll watch over her for you." She said before opening the door as she went back to her dimension with the Key and door.
