Work Header

love sticks, sweat drips, break the lock if it don't fit

Summary:

He doesn’t think he’s ever been this close to Sakusa. He can feel the cold metal lockers digging into his back as he’s pushed harder, but the grip on his shirt feels like fire. Atsumu, he said. Not Miya. The tone he used was sharp and full of rage, but it was calm and sultry. Atsumu is completely out of it, in shock, his brain is completely shutting down, which is why he says:

“Yer hot when yer angry.”

AKA

the one where atsumu accidentally says too much, msby locks skts in the locker room, and omi cares for atsumu more than he would like to admit

Notes:

title: kiss with a fist - florence + the machine (very sakuatsu)

this was the first skts fic I ever wrote?? its from january of 2021 and i don't remember the process of writing it at all just remember having the idea of atsumu saying "you're hot when you're angry" and it accidentally turning into a fluffy piece??

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Miya Atsumu was not claustrophobic. He was quite the opposite, actually. He hated the feeling of being in a large empty space without comforting bodies surrounding him. It was overwhelmingly lonely, a feeling Atsumu wasn’t used to growing up with an identical twin. But when he was younger he would hide in the closet of his and Osamu’s room and read manga when he got into a fight with his brother or just wanted a break from everyone. He was able to be alone without feeling alone. So it’s safe to say Miya Atsumu could handle small spaces pretty well and even liked them at times. But Atsumu is afraid of being trapped, of being confined to a space he can’t escape from.

Once when they were little Osamu decided to shove a chair under the closet door handle while Atsumu was in it. He thought it was hilarious the way Atsumu screamed and cried for someone to let him out, and when he told the story to their friends in high school years later, they laughed with him. They thought it was so funny that they decided to lock the door to the storage room when Atsumu went to grab a broom. Atsumu laughed at first, saying ‘alright that was funny now let me out’ . Suna had just yelled back ‘this is what you get for being a prick ’. But the longer they stayed outside and laughed, the more Atsumu started to panic. He knocked on the door and yelled at Osamu who was cackling. The knocking became more frantic, Atsumu could feel his breath getting shallower and his heart beating wildly. Eventually, he stopped hitting the door and dropped to his knees clutching his chest, he couldn’t understand why it was so hard to breathe, he was gasping for air and tears were forming in his eyes. He barely registered the door opening and his friends' smiles dropping. He looked up to his brother with pleading eyes trying to get the message across, I don’t know what’s happening please help.

“Shit, he’s having a panic attack,” Suna had said as he and Osamu dropped to their knees in front of Atsumu.

Atsumu didn’t know how much time had passed while Suna tried to help him calm down with breathing techniques and grounding methods, but eventually, his eyes cleared and he could breathe again. When Kita had told him they’d been there trying to help Atsumu for 20 minutes he realized he couldn’t even remember most of the experience, it was like he blacked out, and when he came to he was exhausted. He went home early and took a long nap, but for the most part he was fine. He came back for practice the next day where the team had apologized, Atsumu just stood there embarrassed saying it was fine, and that if he didn’t know it was going to happen then how could they?

He had several more panic attacks over the next few years and he had gotten a little more control over them. He got to the point where he knew how to ground himself by just talking out loud (even if no one was around to listen) and he could remember them more clearly each time. But he hadn’t had one as big or induced by his fear of being trapped since.

Until now.

Now, he stands locked in the Black Jackals locker room with the worst possible person in the world rambling his head off trying to get a grip on the impending feeling of panic crawling up his throat.

Let’s take it back to exactly a week before when it all started.

“Why do you insist on acting like a pest, Miya?” Sakusa slams his locker closed and looks at Atsumu standing next to him, who, even though most of their teammates had jumped at the sudden outburst, stood completely still. Most people had perceived Saksua as scarily calm all of the time, some (see: Atsumu) might say to the point where he almost lacks emotion, but certain things could set him off very easily, and when it came to Atsumu…

Sure, both Atsumu and Sakusa could admit that although they did their fair share of bickering and teasing, it was rare for them to actually fight. But when they did, it was loud and ugly and, more often than not, in front of their entire team. Maybe it’s because Atsumu likes the attention, maybe it’s because being around everyone made Sakusa’s fuse a bit shorter, who knows. The point is, it kinda scares everyone when they finally snap.

“Oh like yer any better Omi,” Atsumu rolls his eyes. He felt his teammates watching them, but he didn’t dare to turn and look, keeping his focus solely on Sakusa. Bokuto and Hinata were probably wearing concerned expressions, while Meian was probably thinking ‘ not again, let’s hope no one swings ’ and Inunaki, well he was probably snickering like the little shit he is. But, none of them were particularly surprised, they’d all seen this coming a mile away. The moment Sakusa had decided to look away instead of glare at Atsumu after a snarky, demeaning comment last week, everyone knew what was to come. The tension had been building, their teasing comments became less lighthearted and more and more laced with bitterness. If you asked either of them, they’d tell you they didn’t know why they did it, but they did.

Atsumu thrived off of attention, growing up with an identical twin will do that to you. He had fought tooth and nail to make himself stand out, knowing he’d always be compared to Osamu. He’d even take the bad attention as long as eyes were on him. He prided himself on his ability to gain it, to lure people in with his charm, but he especially loved getting the attention of people who were hell-bent on ignoring him. That’s why he became so fascinated with Sakusa Kiyoomi. He planned to try and befriend the ace of Itachiyama when they first met at the All-Japan Youth training camp, mostly because he thought being friends with someone that “famous” could do some good for him in the long run, but also because he was one hell of a hitter and Atsumu desperately wanted to toss to the guy with the freaky wrists. But as soon as Atsumu plastered on his award-winning smile, he was turned down. Hell, he was barely acknowledged. And that, of course, pissed him off. He didn’t give up though, he really thought he could crack through Sakusa’s tough shell, and if he couldn’t win him over with his words, he could at least give him some amazing sets.

The moment Atsumu met Sakusa, he knew exactly what kind of relationship they would have. He first noticed the cold, brooding glare, aimed at everyone and no one. So, Atsumu being the charming, charismatic, extrovert he is, introduced himself. It went a little like this:

“Heya I’m Miya Atsumu nice to meet ya.” Hand extended for a handshake.

Glare. “Sakusa.”

“Oh, I know Kiyoomi-kun. Yer pretty famous.”

“It’s Sakusa.” Still staring at Atsumu’s outstretched hand.

“Right the germ thing. Well, whatever ya say Omi-kun, ya should let me toss to ya!”

“Don’t call me that. No.”

Needless to say, Sakusa walked away after and didn’t look back, but that didn’t stop Atsumu. He talked to him (well more at him than anything) as much as he could during that week of training. He also made sure to set to him as much as he could, showing off his “mad skills”. Atsumu knew that any time he saw Sakusa after this, his eyes would be on him.

But that plan somehow backfired as well, not only did Sakusa doubt his sets but he was always too honest, to the point he qualified as a proper grade-A asshole. By the end of the week Atsumu had no new friends (unless you counted Tobio who had taken his teasing a little too close to heart), and a hatred for the one and only Sakusa Kiyoomi.

Well, hatred was a strong word, but he genuinely disliked him, and when he ranted to Osamu about it he simply just said, “why do you want his attention so badly? It's not like he’s the first person to ignore you.” That only made matters worse, because he couldn’t tell you why he cared so much, he chalked it up to a bruised ego.

That was until he saw the raven-haired boy again at a practice match and couldn’t keep his eyes off him. He was in a trance for most of the match, not enough for it to disturb his playing, but just enough to be mesmerized by how well Sakusa fit with his team. After an embarrassing comment from Suna about how he was staring and an even more embarrassing dream that night, Atsumu realized that he found Sakusa, very, extremely, attractive. He repressed it, of course, as one does when they realize they are into someone they should hate.

Matters only got worse, as they always seem to do for Atsumu, when the two boys were both picked for the U19 team. Atsumu would swiftly deny feeling any excitement when he saw a certain name on the list. The moment Sakusa walked into the gym his eyes met Atsumu’s, Atsumu had given him his fox-like grin to which Sakusa promptly turned and walked right back out the door only to be pushed back in by Motoya Komori (Sauksa’s cousin and Itachiyama’s talented libero). Atsumu strolled up to him and gave him a nice “I thought you’d be happy to see me Omi-Omi, we work so well together after all ”. Sakusa responded by throwing a volleyball at his face. (Atsumu to this day has no idea where the ball came from, he assumed Sakusa was secretly into close-up magic, it was the only explanation).

“Hey, guys maybe you should calm down,” a voice, probably Hinata’s, floated distantly in the background. Kiyoomi didn’t dare look away from Miya, it would be a sign of defeat in whatever stupid game they’d been playing for years.

Kiyoomi’s first thought when he met Miya was, what the fuck kind of hair color is that, and his second thought was, that smile is obviously fake but it's still pretty, then, wait, what, ew. Before Kiyoomi even had time to think about whatever just happened in his head the blonde was waltzing over to introduce himself. Kiyoomi could barely understand a word that came out of his mouth with that endearing god-awful accent. If he had known turning down Miya’s offer would only spark a challenge in the other, he might have been polite and just said yes, but he was an asshole, and he could tell Miya was too (“birds of a feather ”, Komori had said later that night).

While Atsumu had made it his goal to get Sakusa’s attention, Kiyoomi made it his goal to ignore Miya till he gave up. When that didn't seem to work (mostly because the self-aware part of Kiyoomi’s brain had mentioned if you’re constantly thinking about ignoring him you aren’t really ignoring him ), Kytoomi decided to switch tactics, he would give Miya the reactions he so desperately craved, but never in the way that was expected. Kiyoomi found himself throwing back insults and snide remarks, never biting his tongue when a sarcastic quip came to his mind.

Miya still surprised him though, Kiyoomi would’ve thought that with all the shit he talked, Miya would be the last person to respect his boundaries, but he happened to be one of the only people who did. He never got too close, and never initiated contact, when he found himself doing it subconsciously he stopped.

It was secretly exhilarating for Kiyoomi, who had always distanced himself from everyone thinking no one would ever want to try. But no matter how hard he tried, Miya never went away, and that in itself was not only frustrating as hell but... addicting. So if Kiyoomi had joined MSBY with anything in mind other than the immaculate hygiene in their training facility, well then, no one needed to know that.

Now, quite a decade after their first meeting, they stand glaring at each other in their shared locker room, not caring about the world around them, purely focused on each other. They didn’t even notice their team slowly leaving one by one until it was just them, Meian, and Barnes.

“Why do you try so damn hard Miya? Is the attention that important to you? Do you really need someone to stroke your ego 24/7?” Sakusa’s voice returns to its normal volume.

“Don’t you even try that shit, I know that ya think yer better than all of us. Talk about ego, huh? Yer not so subtle with the way you judge everyone Omi-kun,” Atsumu smiles dryly. Sakusa is standing in front of him, arms crossed over his chest where he wore a white tee. He’s wearing grey sweats that hug his thighs just right- no Atsumu, he scolds himself, yer mad at him remember

“Stop with the damn nickname already. What do you even get out of this? Why are you so desperate to bug me all the time? Is it a fetish?” Atsumu laughs, mostly because he wasn’t that far off.

“Why are you so desperate to ignore everyone all the time? You talk about me but you’re just as much of an asshole, maybe even more! I don’t get it! I mean hell you even ignore the people that are nice to you, why? Why do you hide behind that fucking mask all the time, what are you trying to hide Omi-Omi,” Atsumu knew it was a low blow, he knew it was mean, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t completely caught off guard when a hand fists the front of his shirt and shoves him against the lockers.

Woah,” Barnes starts walking towards the Sakusa reaching out to grab him before Meian stops him.

“They have to sort this out themselves, let’s go, I trust they won’t kill each other, we have a game tomorrow,” he whispers and pulls Barnes out of the room. Sakusa waits till the door is closed to speak.

“So I was right,” he says in a low tone, almost whispering. “It’s about the attention, isn't it Atsumu? You’re upset because one person won’t give you the time of day when you think you desperately deserve it,” Atsumu swallows.

“Yer hot when yer angry.” He’s breathless. Whether that’s from the proximity or getting the wind knocked out of him he couldn’t say. Sakusa’s eyes widen. Atsumu realizes what he said and slams a hand over his mouth. The grip on his shirt loosens and he takes the moment to shove Sakusa away, packing up his stuff and running out of the locker room, leaving the other man standing there in stunned silence looking at his hands.

When Atsumu exits Bokuto, Hinata, Barnes, and Inunaki are standing there waiting. Atsumu stops and looks at them, his cheeks burning furiously, he opens his mouth to say something but then decides against it and walks away quickly. He knows they couldn’t possibly have heard him from where they were standing, they were probably just waiting for more screaming or the sound of Sakusa beating the shit out of him, but he was so utterly mortified he couldn’t interact with anyone.

When Sakusa leaves the locker room the other guys are still standing there patiently. They realize Sakusa looked dumbfounded. They go to ask what happened but Sakusa seems to not even notice the four of them standing there, which shocks them all even more.

They need to find out what happened.

The game the next day went normally despite the weird tension between the spiker and setter. This wasn’t surprising to the team who had dealt with the aftermath of their fights on multiple occasions. They are both professionals and know how to keep their feelings out of the game. What was surprising was Atsumu yelling ‘Left!’ instead of ‘Omi!’. Things only got weirder after the game. They usually just avoided each other and gave piercing glares after fights, but this time, while they were still avoiding each other, it wasn’t out of anger. They’d both look at the other, distantly, then as soon as the other noticed, they turned around quickly. (If you looked close enough you could see the blush crawling up the side of Atsumu’s neck).

The rest of the team had no clue what to do, the weirdness went on for a few days, which was longer than either of them had gone without saying at least one snarky remark to the other. Finally one day in the locker rooms after a long practice someone says something.

“Seriously what the fuck is wrong with you guys,” a stern voice says loudly. Atsumu and Sakusa both turn around to see the whole team looking at them. But they are surprised to realize the voice had come from their captain.

“What?” Atsumu asks, voice rough.

“The two of you,” Meian pointed between Sakusa and Atsumu, who look at each other, made quick eye contact, and then look away.

“See! That!” Hinata pipes up.

“It’s freaky not having the two of you bicker and give each other scary death glares,” Bokuto adds. The rest of the team nods.

“I don’t know what yer talking about Bokkun, I still hate Omi-Omi just as much as I did before,” Atsumu smiles bitterly.

“Oh really?” Atsumu jumps at Sakusa’s sudden participation. This time Atsumu, despite feeling the tips of his ears turn red, really did give him a glare.

You, shut it,” he points at Sakusa then turns back to his locker.

“What the hell happened in here last week after we left?” Barnes also joins the conversation, with a hint of worry in his voice.

“None of your business,” Atsumu bites out quickly. He hears a scoff from his left and looks back to Sakusa with narrow eyes.

“What happened to all that honesty Miya, why won’t you tell the team what happened,” he raised a brow. Atsumu closes his locker with more force than he probably should have.

“Listen,” he turns around after a deep breath, “let’s just forget about all this okay, I thought you guys wanted us to stop fighting, what’s the big deal.”

“We did but this,” Meian pauses, “this is too weird, it’s distracting, at least you guys were actually friends before.”

“We were not friends.”

“Absolutely not.”

Sakusa and Atsumu speak at the same time. The rest of the team stares at them blankly.

“Seriously?” Inunaki asks after a beat.

“Omi-Omi only lets Tsum-Tsum sit next to him on the bus. Tsum-Tsum makes sure to carry a bottle of alcohol or wipes with him everywhere he goes,” Bokuto starts.

“That’s just me being nice, don’t read into it,” Atsumu points out.

“But you aren’t nice,” Sakusa adds.

“Okay, fuck you.”

“Whenever we go out it has to be Atsumu that asks you because we know you’ll automatically say no otherwise,” Adriah points to Sakusa.

“And when you do come, Atsumu-san you stay with him the whole night making sure he isn’t uncomfortable, and leave early with him if he is,” Hinata adds.

“Sakusa is literally the only person who can get Atsumu to stop overworking himself after a bad game.”

“Whenever either of you has a bad day you’re guaranteed to be found in the others’ apartment.”

“Even when you guys fight, the aftermath never lasts more than a night because you can’t go without talking to each other.”

“Okay! Okay, we get it maybe we are friends,” Atsumu interrupts the stream of pure facts being thrown in their faces. Both he and Atsumu are bright red by the end.

“So,” Meian starts again, “what we’re saying is, fix your shit,” he walks out of the locker room and the rest of the team follows.

Atsumu looks at Sakusa.

Sakusa looks at Atsumu.

Atsumu decides he still can’t have this conversation and heads to the door, only to find it’s locked.

“The hell?” He pulls the handle a few times.

“FIX YOUR SHIT!” Meian yells from the other side of the door. Atsumu pulls on the door just a couple of more times to be sure. He rests his head on the door and exhales.

“Fuck.”

Now, not only does he have to deal with his accidental confession, but he's also about to panic. Great. He turns around and almost jumps when he sees Sakusa standing there.

“Hey,” he says awkwardly.

“Hi,” Sakusa says back.

“Nope, I can’t do this. Meian!” He starts banging on the door, “Meian let me out! I promise I’ll do whatever punishment ya want just, please! Let! Me! Out!”

“He’s not going to open the door till you act civil, Miya,” Sakusa adds calmly.

“Shut up this is all yer fault anyways!” Atsumu continues to pull on the door.

My fault?” Sakusa asks defensively. Atsumu stops pulling on the door and turns around.

“Yes, yer fault, it’s all your fault for coming here and joining my team of all teams. It’s your fault that you showed up here looking like that after all these years but it doesn’t really matter because I’ve had a thing for ya since fucking high school and for some damn reason ya seemed to hate me so much. Then ya come here and ya piss the fuck out of me but I can’t help but be attracted to ya.

And I thought I could handle it, I thought ‘yeah maybe this asshole is hot, who cares’, but then, but then ya started acting differently. Ya offered me tea after Tobio was named best setter. Ya let me come to yer apartment after I had a fight with ‘Samu and didn’t feel like being alone. Ya bought my favorite candy without being asked to. Ya memorized my coffee order for when we travel. And the touches. Don’t even get me started on those, I’m tired of acting like I don’t notice when yer side brushes mine, or the taps on the shoulder, or ya grabbing my arm to pull me away from fans when we’re late. Ya don’t do that to anybody else!

So how the fuck am I not supposed to fall for ya after all that! And god now, now we’re trapped in this stupid ass locker room because I can’t keep my damn mouth shut, because even though ya were so pissed at me that day all I could think about was how your thighs looked in those sweats and the way ya said my actual name and ugh! I can’t believe I let myself catch feelings for a teammate again! I’m so fucking pathetic!”

“Miya,”

“And none of this would have happened if I didn’t make that dumb comment about hiding but you piss me off so much all of the time that my brain-to-mouth filter just shuts down which is why I called you hot that day!”

“Miya!”

“And then ya go and act like yer the one embarrassed about it! What the hell is that? And I-” Something grabs his arm.

Atsumu. ” He stops. “Breathe.” He tries. Atsumu had been so caught up in rambling he didn’t notice he’d been hyperventilating the whole time. He tries to steady his short and shallow breaths.

He doesn’t remember them moving to sit on the bench, but when his mind starts to clear his hands are on his knees and he sees blood on his knuckles and he doesn’t even remember hitting anything.

“You punched the door in the middle of your rant,” Sakusa offers, somehow knowing where Atsumu’s thoughts went. He’s next to him with a hand on his back. Atsumu looks up to Sakusa, whose eyes are no longer filled with disdain like they were before.

“Sorry,” is what Atsumu says when he finally speaks and looks down at his shoes. His voice is rough and his throat is sore.

“Don’t apologize for having a panic attack Atsumu,” Sakusa says softly, handing him an open water bottle, his hand stays on Atsumu’s back, it’s searing, but it’s grounding. He drinks some water, then lifts his hand to examine the wounds, his hands are shaking.

“We should clean that, can you stand?” Atsumu nods.

They walk over to the sink and Sakusa turns on the water, he grabs Atsumu’s hand and pulls it under. Atsumu focuses on the feeling of the water on his split knuckles, he doesn’t realize Sakusa had walked away until he’s back with a first aid kit in hand. He takes Atsumu’s hand from the sink and dabs it dry with a paper towel. Atsumu’s brain is back in full focus when Sakusa applies the neosporin to his knuckles.

“Fuck,” he hisses. They stay silent for a few more moments as Sakusa reaches to find some bandages.

“I meant-” Atsumu swallows as Sakusa looks up at him, mid-bandaging his hand. “I meant that I was sorry ya have to deal with all this.”

“It doesn’t bother me,” Sakusa says, returning to Atsumu’s hand, “not when it’s you.” He adds so softly Atsumu almost doesn’t hear it, but he does and his heart flutters.

Sakusa finishes and Atsumu extends his fingers, feeling a dull ache.

“I’m an idiot,” he says to himself. He expects a yeah, you are from Sakusa, but instead, he gets:

“It’s not your fault, you didn’t mean to do it.” Atsumu looks at him in surprise.

“I uh- I don’t like being trapped,” Atsumu explains, “when I was little ‘Samu locked in the closet and just, I don’t know ever since then I’ve hated the feeling. I can’t do escape rooms,” he laughs shyly. “So that on top of me having to confront my feelings just kinda-” he gestured vaguely, hoping Sakusa would understand what he meant. When Sakusa nodded he felt a little tension release from his shoulders. Another beat of silence passed. Atsumu opened his mouth to say something but Sakusa beat him to it.

“I feel the same,” he blurted out, “I uh- I kinda hope that it’s clear now, that I did all those things because I felt the same.” He scratched the back of his neck and shifted on the balls of his feet. Atsumu smiled.

“Okay,” he breathed out.

“Okay,” Sakusa replied nervously.

Another beat of silence.

Atsumu took a step toward him.

“Omi?” He asked softly.

“Yeah?”

“Can I kiss ya?” Instead of a reply Sakusa pulls down his mask, showing a soft smile before tugging on Atsumu’s shirt pulling him close, letting their lips collide.

It isn’t hot or messy or needy or desperate. It’s relieving. It’s like breathing your first breath of air after being submerged underwater for so long. It’s soft and it’s healing. Atsumu’s hand finds its way to Sakusa’s hair and he uses the other one to steady himself on Sakusa's bicep. Sakusa’s hands are on Atsumu’s back, pulling him closer and deepening the kiss. Their lips slide over one another's perfectly, and they stay like that for a few more seconds before pulling away to catch their breaths. Their foreheads rest together as they breathe deeply.

“Been wanting to do that for so long,” Atsumu says, eyes still closed.

“Me too,” Sakusa breathes out, his eyes stay fixed on Atsumu’s face as he holds him, memorizing the peacefulness.

“Atsumu?”

“Yeah?” Atsumu opens his eyes.

“Will you go out with me?” Sakusa’s voice is soft but full of determination. Atsumu breaks out into a full-blown grin.

“I knew ya couldn’t resist me forever Omi-kun,” he giggles. Kiyoomi rolls his eyes and smiles despite himself. Instead of answering, Atsumu just leans in for another kiss.

When Sakusa and Atsumu knock on the door to let Meian know they ‘fixed their shit’, they fully expected the entire team to be standing there. But to both of their surprise, it’s just Meian and Barnes.

“I sent the children home so they wouldn’t spy,” Meian explains.

“I only stayed just in case you actually tried to kill each other, but uh, guess we don’t gotta worry about that now,” Barnes offers a strange look to the two of them.

“So ya heard,” Atsumu looks down in embarrassment. Sakusa grabs his hand, brushing his fingers lightly over the bandages.

“Only the part where you were yelling, when you got quiet we assumed you’d calmed down and we’re talking things out. I was definitely surprised but I was glad I sent the boys home, so only Barnes and I know if you want to keep things on the down-low for a bit.”

“Thanks, cap’n.” Atsumu smiles, “we’ll probably tell them soon but I think we want some time to ourselves before then.” He turns to Sakusa who nods in agreement.

“Alrighty well you guys get home, they’ll probably all be up waiting for you.” Atsumu and Sakusa nod and walk out of the gym hand in hand.

By the time they arrived at the MSBY complex they had a plan. Sakusa walked in first. Everyone was sitting in the common room and all of their heads turned when he walked in. They took a look at the expression on his face and decided they wouldn’t ask. He walked up the stairs and went straight for his apartment, making sure to slam the door when he got to it making the team jump.

When Atsumu walked in he made sure to be scratching the side of his face with his injured hand. Immediately the team flipped out. Asking ‘ What happened? Did you hit him? did he hit you? ’. Atsumu just yawned, muttered an ‘ I’m fine, go away ’ then trudged up the stairs, but instead of walking to his room he peeped down the hall to make sure no one followed him and opened the door to his boyfriend’s room and stepped in.

About 10 minutes later the whole team, minus Sakusa and Atsumu, got a text:

From: Captain Meian

> I strongly advise not bothering Sakusa and Miya for the weekend.

And so they did. Which gave the new lovers plenty of time to spend together and come up with a plan as payback for their nosey teammates.

On Monday morning, Kiyoomi and Atsumu enacted their plan. They both acted normal but avoided interacting with each other, making the team worried.

They were in the middle of a practice game, it was match point, and Atsumu had given Kiyoomi the perfect toss for their newest quick. He yelled ‘OMI!’ and the ball flew straight to Kiyoomi’s hand, where he then spiked it down with a flick of his wrist, sending it near Hinata who got under it but couldn’t control it due to the spin. It flew out.

“Hell yes!” Atsumu yelled as he sprinted to Kiyoomi and jumped into his arms as soon as he landed. They kissed.

“WHAT!?” multiple voices yelled. But the boys kept kissing, Atsumu’s arms wrapped around Kiyoomi’s neck and Kiyoomi’s around Atsumu’s waist, pulling each other close.

When they broke apart everyone stared jaws dropped. Somewhere across the court, Barnes cackled. Atsumu laughed loudly and Kiyoomi bit back a smile.

“I thought you guys actually hated each other now! I thought you actually fought jackasses!” Inunaki scolded them.

“Yeah!” Bokuto piped up, “I was so worried about you ‘Tsumu and Omi! When Meian told us not to bug you I thought you guys were just really upset.”

“Yeah we just wanted some alone time when we told ya, I didn’t leave Omi’s room all weekend,” Atsumu admitted smugly. The team let out various sounds of disgust.

“Wait so what happened to your hand?” Inunaki asked.

“He punched a door,” Kiyoomi said before Atsumu could even say the brilliant lie he had come up with.

“Omiiii,” he whined, hiding his face in Kiyoomi’s neck.

What surprised everyone the most Hinata finally spoke.

“I knew it!” They all looked at him confused. “Well it’s just, you guys with your whole ‘we act like we hate each other but we’re really fond of each other and sometimes we get into fights because we repress our feelings’ act reminded me of me and Kageyama in high school so I kinda figured you guys had a thing for each other.” He shrugged, and they all just blinked at him.

“Also I have really good ears and heard you call Omi-san hot,” everyone’s eyes widened. Atsumu buried his bright red head into Kiyoomi’s shoulder as everyone around them laughed.

They didn’t explain what had happened leading up to them getting together, but it didn’t matter. When Atsumu looked up at Kiyoomi and smiled, Kiyoomi smiled back. They stayed like that for a while, not paying attention to anyone around them, reveling in the peace they found in each other's eyes. A whistle blew snapping them out of their trance.

“Alright! Stop eye-fucking let's get moving, we got a match on Thursday! Let’s go!”
