Advent Wreath

Work Text:

After some long minutes of reflection, Castiel was the last one to put his bit of paper in the bowl.

"Finally!" Dean sighed, "ok! Youngest draws first," he said, pointing at you.

You swirled the small papers around and picked one. "Tree decorating!" you said relieved.

Sam was next, "Food and beverages!" he said.

"Damnit!" Dean let out, slapping his thigh in frustration, "my turn?" he breathed in and opened the paper slowly. "Advent Wreath? What? No!" he cried out, "this is horse crap! Sam is going to make healthy disgusting cookies and virgin eggnog and I'm stuck with a thing nobody even cares about! Who even wrote that?"

"It's a very nice and joyful part of the Christmas celebration Dean..." Castiel said defensively.

"Yeah, figures... What did you get?" Dean asked him.

"Bunker decorating..."

"Do you wanna..." Dean started, making the universal gesture of swapping.

"Those are not the rules, Dean." Cas said sternly.

"Oh come on! What am I supposed to do with this?!"

"Let your arts and crafts spirit guide you, hon," you told him, kissing his cheek.

Over the next few hours, Dean sulked, groaned, sighed, said "I give up!" three times until he finally fell silent and focused on his task. He stayed at the table in the war room, fiddling with branches, candles, bits of paper and even glitter he requested Cas to go get at the store. Sam had the great idea of putting the bowl of brandy eggnog not too far from his brother. After about three hours, a victorious "Haha!" was heard. You and Cas turned away from the decorated tree to look at Dean. He seemed extremely proud and his cheeks were also, extremely flushed.

"Look at that, huh?" he said, "freaking nailed it!" You got closer and forced yourself to look at the wreath instead of gazing at your gorgeous man sparkling eyes.

"Sammy! Come take a look at this!"

Sam appeared in the room, wiping his floured hands on a kitchen towel. When he gathered everyone, Dean started his presentation.

"Alright! So! Please behold this year's advent wreath!" he set it in front of everyone, presenting it like it was the holiest thing in the world, "with a Dean Winchester twist. As you can see, there are four candles, but, they do not represent your average message of hope and peace or whatever. They represent us. So, mine is the tallest, 'cause I'm the oldest one here..."

"Well technically..." Cas started.

"Yeah, no, but hear me out, just let me have this, ok?" Dean whispered to him.

"Alright, proceed." Cas allowed, knowing full well there was no point in arguing.

"Sam's one has carrots painted on it because that's what he's into these days," Dean continued, rolling his eyes. "For Cas', I managed to make a little halo stand on top of it, look!" he pointed at it proudly.

"But wouldn't it burn if we light up the candle?" Cas asked.

"Shh, shh," Dean replied, clearly not having thought it through, "and last but not least, the coolest candle is for this beauty," he added, turning to you, "I put stars on it because, well, you're my universe..." he winked. You groaned, not knowing if you wanted to hit or kiss him. The other two clearly were on board with the first option.

"Ok buddy, I think you've had enough eggnog for tonight" you said as Dean picked up the wreath and put it on his head, "you did a great job, I'm proud, very cheesy at the end but great presentation overall," you added.

"But wait! It gets cheesier," he chuckled, "because..." he fumbled with the wreath, "wait for it..." he fumbled some more, spinning it around a few times until he found it, "ha! look up." He pulled on a green branch and a little hidden mistletoe appeared, "clever huh?" he asked, all smiles and wiggly eyebrows. He bent down and waited for your kiss, eyes closed, a smirk on his face. You turned around to find Sam's awkward expression and Cas staring in curiosity.

"You guys don't have to stay here for this guys," you laughed, before kissing your boyfriend.
