Work Text:

Your feet made soft scuffs against the pathway to your purple blooded trolls hive. Your backpack you carried on your person filled to the brim with different snacks, games, and movies.

To say that you were excited was a understatement. The two of you had been planning this night for a few weeks and now tonight was finally time. It was just going to be the two of you, snacks galore, and enough video games and movies to make your brain mush.

Gamzee seemed less like himself lately. His face paint seemingly days older than usual, his eyes duller and without that jester sparkle it had to them. He did smile and crack jokes like usual but it seemed forced and his messaging was less frequent than you were accustomed to.

When you had first brought up a sleepover you could see that familiar shine come back to his eyes, even momentarily. He seemed very pleased with the idea and said he would even try and clean up a little for you before you got there.

Which come on, that means that he really enjoys your company if he’s willing to clean up some before your arrival.
It made your heart so happy flops as you remembered the smile he had on his face that actually seemed genuine.

You forced your legs to move faster to close the gap between you and his front door. With a smile on your face you pressed the doorbell a couple times and stood back a bit to wait for the door to be answered.

You waited patiently, smile still on your features.

You waited some more, the smile falling.

You waited until you felt concern start to bubble in your mid section. With your arm stretching out you tried the handle.

It gave when you pressed down on it with your closed fist and with little effort opened for you.

You decided on entering opposed to just waiting outside. You’ve been here countless times before, and it’s not like he wasn’t expecting you.

You walked inside and noticed that things did seem a little cleaner than the way it usually was. Bottles and different dishes were put in their places and the floor seemed to have been partially swept.

Partially because it looks as if he got distracted because there was a pile of dirt and other things on one side of the room that had still yet to be swept.

You felt your smile return to your lips. “Least he tried. Points for you Gam.” You said to yourself as you entered the kitchen.

The sink was flooded with dishes but also seemed to be partially finished. The sink still held soapy water in one side with clean dishes on the other.
You saw that the water was running and turned it off with a light chuckle.

You looked around the house, and there was no sign of him. You checked his bedroom, recoopracoon, bathroom, even the horn pile. You checked under the sink too just to be safe, since it wasn’t unlike him to take naps in random places around his home.

You were pulling out your phone to message him before something from the window caught your attention. You peered up though the large glass pane and saw a figure in the distance. It’s posture seemed to resemble the troll you were seeking.

You opened the back exit to his hive and steadily made your way down the long yellow pathway to the shoreline.

The figure did in fact turn out to be the purple blooded alternian. He was standing against the waves with his hands at his sides, the gusts of air causing his fluffy raven hair to beat against his head.
Something seemed off and your hypothesis was deemed correct when you saw the melancholy face he wore when you finally got to his side.

He turned his head towards you and a small smile, though sad, appeared in his features. His black eyes staring to your e/c ones. “Heya Y/N, it’s good to see a familiar face.”

It seemed like that greeting held a second meaning. But you held your tongue and gave him a warm smile.

“Hello Gam, admiring the water?”

He gave you a chuckle and plopped down on the sand beneath your feet. He patted the space next to him and you did as he asked silently.

He was quiet, watching the waves crash a few feet from you both. He tucked in his knees to his chest and wrapped his arms around them. He gave a audible sigh, and rested his chin on his knees.

You observed him, eyebrows knitted with worry. “Something tells me you’re not out here admiring the scenery.” Reaching out your hand you laid it on his upper arm. “Wanna tell me what’s going on?”

He turned his head to meet your gaze. “It’s…” he began and sighed again. “It’s my lusus, it’s been a few months since he even bothered to visit a motherfucker.”

You knew that Gamzee’s parental figure was capricious at heart, heading the Capricorn sign to a ultimate. He would be gone for months at a time and the high blood would be left alone for all that time.
You wonder if that’s the reasoning behind him being so excited to have someone over. To jump at the chance of having another living person to spend time with. He must be terribly lonesome lately.

“So that’s why you’ve been so off.” You replied with a understanding tone. You scooted closer to him.

He lifted his head at your closer proximity and you could tell he was confused a bit. “What do ya mean?”

“Gam, I’ve known your a few sweeps now. I can tell when you’re not your self.” You commented with a sly smile but it melted back to a worried one. “I’m sorry goatdad hasn’t gotten around here lately. It’s not fair to you.”

You leaned in to wrap your arms around his thin form, tucking your face into his shoulder. You squeezed him tightly to your body and you felt his own relax into the embrace.

“You don’t have to worry. I’m always gonna be here for you if you need me. You deserve to have someone there for you.”

He gave a soft and relieved sigh and wrapped his own around your body. This boy was touch starved and it broke your heart. You could hear his audible breath turn shaky as sobs escaped him.

You rubbed his back in circles and comforted him as he snuggled and sniffed against your shoulder as purple tinted tears fell on your shirt. “I’m here Gam, I’m here.” You comforted.

And you always would be.

After he had finished he leaned back and hastily wiped at his eyes, his face paint smeared and smudged.

“Thanks Y/N…” he said quietly but with a warm smile.

You gave him one in return. “Not a problem Gamzee. You wanna start that sleepover, I’ve got enough Faygo to even make you impressed. I also got those gummy bears I know you like to munch on.”

He gave you a audible honk.

Notes:

I wish Gamzee had more development instead of being used as a plot device. :(
As a capricorn I love him and hold him dear.
