Work Text:
Daisy had snuck out of bed after Sybil fell asleep, to sit at the dining table and study her arithmetic books.
But she was soon snapped from her focus by Sybil’s voice.
“Daisy, what’s all this?”
“Oh, you’re awake.”
“I woke up and you weren’t there, so I came to find you.” She walked over to the table. “What are you doing?”
“Well... Remember Mr Mason offered for me to live at his farm one day?”
Sybil nodded.
“The thing is, I couldn’t balance the books if my life depended on it. I was rubbish at numbers in school. I bought these books to try and teach myself now, but I’m too stupid to make out one solitary word.”
“I don’t agree! It’s late, you’re tired. Come to bed now, and tomorrow, we’ll look at the books together. Alright?”
Daisy hesitated, but eventually nodded. Sybil smiled, and kissed her head.
