Malik's eighteenth birthday was being his best, ever.
Seven years ago, he wouldn't have guessed how his life would turn. Not only did he have his family together, living free of the burdens of the past, like he always wished, but also a few friends, and, the most surprising, two wonderful girlfriends.
He had stepped outside of the house and away from the party for a moment, when someone hugged him from behind.
"Are things too pressuring for you?" Amy asked.
"No. I was just thinking."
She released him and the two sat on the curb, silently watching the Christmas lights shining at the other side of the street.
"Aren't you two cold?"
Yugi sat on his other side and the two girls nestled closer to him.
"Not so cold with you here." Malik wrapped an arm around each girl, the three warming each other.
"What is it you have been thinking so much about?" Amy also wrapped an arm around him, tracing random patterns on the snow with the other gloved hand
"It will be the second snowy Christmas since we met and I was remembering our first."
"You had never seen snow, back then." Yugi chuckled. "Every little thing impressed you, so, on Christmas Eve, Amy took us and Rishid to her winter base. It was fun."
"I think I speak for all of us when I say we could have done without being chased by magical crows, though." Amy laughed, nuzzling more against him."
"Back then, I never imagined I would be dating one of you, let alone both. And we went through so many things… Including a time I thought I would lose you… A time I was willing to give up on you, Yugi."
When they met each other, he was eleven and just ran from home, coming accidentally across the two girls and their expedition team on a temple in the desert. He was looking for the bearer of the Millennium Puzzle then, not knowing she was right before him, until Yugi had finally put the pieces together, years later.
In fact it had been right on his birthday that she had suddenly showed up with the Puzzle hanging from her neck. If it wasn't for Amy being there, sharing his sentiments but with all her logic, he might have lost himself long before he did.
Even then, he had almost ruined everything, to the point that, when everything was over, Malik realized he wanted one of them, but convinced himself he didn't deserve either, but especially Yugi. Then Amy was dating his brother. But that was fitting as well. Since they met until the Puzzle was complete, the four of them had been together and they would remain so.
Yugi held his hand that was on her shoulder and rested her head on his shoulder.
"It's okay. Everything is over now and today we should be celebrating that."
"Yeah." Amy snuck out of his arms and stood up, trying to pull him with her. "C'mon, it's time to cut the cake and open your gifts."
"You always get me gifts, for both my birthday and Christmas, although they're only two days apart. And you know you don't need to. The two of you are the only gift I need."
Malik was sure he was red by now and feeling especially warm despite the cold weather.
"These are two different things." Yugi laughed. "We get you gifts exactly because we love you."
Yugi looked very bashful too, but the way she smiled at him was soft and warm.
"As a friend first and now as my boyfriend, I always loved you." Amy kissed him, a quick touch, both cold and warm.
"Our boyfriend." When she parted from him, still smiling, Yugi added and, very bashfully, gave him an even quicker kiss.
"Happy birthday." Both said together.
"Now let's get inside because before any of us catch a cold. Plus, I really want you to open our gifts."
Malik followed them inside, each girl holding one of his hands, all of them smiling together.
Loving them and having them love him back, was truly the best gift he could ever wish for.
