Summary
The war had dragged on longer than people had expected. Hermione wanted to add that the war had started in earnest at some point, and that was something she had not expected.
At the end of fifth year, when she, Harry, Ron and their friends had traveled to London to enter the Department of Mysteries, she had thought that the war was a faint idea, millions of miles away. She was not ignorant to the news that made the Daily Prophet of rising attacks, certain sightings of odd behaviors, the increase in Harry’s disturbing nightmares, or even the secrecy that bloomed from the adults in their lives. But she had assessed the possibility of a real outbreak of war, and determined that most of this one would be fought in secrecy, with small plots and hidden agendas, leaving the majority of the world none-the-wiser. She had been wrong before, but never in such a way.
Now, a year later, she wondered how she found herself still in this war, and now becoming allies with the most unlikely of people.
