A Thing Called Love

Summary:

"I like you." Otis forced himself to say the words.

"You..... you what?" Olympia said.

"I like you," Otis repeated, "A lot. And I didn't want to say it because I was afraid that you might reject me and I'd have ruined our friendship and I really didn't want that because I love working with you and-"

He was interrupted by her grabbing his shoulders firmly and placing her lips on his.

"Oh, my God," Olympia said once she had pulled away. She covered her mouth with one hand, but the other was still on his shoulder. "That was a horrible idea. I shouldn't have done that. I shouldn't have done that, should I?"

"D..... don't worry about it." Otis said, a little shocked and out of breath, "It was great."

Chapter Text

"Dr. O, I need your help," Otis said as he walked into her office.

"Otis. What seems to be the problem?"

"I don't know. I feel sick. Like.... my pulse keeps racing, and I can't keep my breath steady. And my appetite is gone, too."

"Sit down."

Otis did as he was told, and Dr. O began to scan him with some sort of medical gadget.

"Hmmm."

"What?"

"You're not sick," Dr. O told him, "But you're right, you do have an elevated pulse."

"But if I'm not sick, what else could it be?"

"I don't know. But since there's no medical emergency, you're free to return to work."

"Thank you anyways, Dr. O."

"You're welcome."

As Otis exited Dr. O's office, he heard her shout "What's next!?"

"Why do you think she does that?" Otis was a little startled by Olympia suddenly beside him.

"Do what?"

"What's next!?" Olympia said, putting on her best Dr. O impression.

"Oh. I don't know. I suppose it's just a thing she does."

"Oh, like you and your bread burgers!"

"It's not that weird, is it?"

"Just a little."

Olympia sat down in her desk chair, the force of it causing the chair to spin a little.

"Today's just a paperwork day, huh?" Otis said.

"I guess. But don't worry, we can make it fun if we do it together!"

Otis liked it when they did things together. Even if Olympia was crying out that she was going to die from boredom, just her being around was enough to keep Otis entertained.

The two idly talked while filling out the paperwork they were assigned. Olympia was leading the conversation, as always, but Otis was content to just follow her lead.

"So, uh..... why were you in Dr. O's office?"

"Oh, I wasn't feeling well."

"Oh, no! Do you need to go home?"

"No. She said I wasn't sick."

"Still, if you're not feeling well, you should get some rest." Olympia placed one of her hands on his, and he looked up.

It started again.

The fast pulse, the unsteady breathing...

"Like I said," Otis responded, pulling his hand away from hers, "Dr. O told me I wasn't sick."

"If it gets any worse, go home right away, okay?"

"Of course."

Otis didn't have the heart to tell her it had gotten worse, right when she touched his hand. Knowing her, she'd probably think it was something to do with herself.

Recalling the touch, his chest got tight.

Maybe it did have something to do with her.
