Work Text:
Carlos' ringtone sounded beneath a pile of paperwork on his desk as he was finishing up one last report before getting ready to head home. Digging through the papers, Carlos unburied his phone to see the name, TK Strand on display. Without wasting another minute, he immediately pressed answer before his phone had the chance to go to voicemail.
"Hey babe, I'm almost done here and I'll be home shortly," Carlos breathed out as the relief of finishing soon was starting to become a reality.
"Great! I was hoping you could make a quick stop at the store and grab some cocoa powder?" Came TK's giddy reply.
"Sure, yeah, I can do that. Would you also like me to grab some takeout for dinner too? It's just been such a long week for the both of us."
"That sounds great, baby! I can't wait till you're home!"
Hanging up, Carlos went back to his task of filling out the report and within the next half hour, was heading over to the elevators that would take him to the precinct's parking garage.
Swinging by Whole Foods, Carlos popped in to grab some cocoa powder, before stopping by Roppolo’s Pizzeria and picking up the Supreme Pizza he had put an order in for before leaving the precinct. Before he knew it, he was walking into the loft where he was greeted by TK bounding towards him for a hug.
"Mmmm, that smells great, can we put this pizza in the warming drawer? We're going to make cookies before dinner!"
Hugging TK back with one arm, Carlos handed the pizza off to TK, who immediately proceeded to take some pieces out, place them on a plate, and put the plate in the warming drawer of their oven. Setting the box with the rest of the pizza on the island, TK turned to grab the cocoa powder, which Carlos had brought over to the island as well.
"What kind of cookies are we making?"
"Double chocolate chunk cookies!" TK said in a sing-song voice, as he pulled out a mini bag of marshmallows from a cupboard.
"And what are those marshmallows for? Are we making more hot chocolate too?"
"Nope, the marshmallows go in the cookies! My mom and I used to make these all the time every December back in New York!" TK said as he began combining the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt.
Moving into the kitchen and taking a look at the recipe, Carlos began beating the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in their stand mixer. Once that mixture was creamy, TK moved in to crack two eggs into the mixer, watching in fascination as they got mixed in. TK then brought the flour mixture over and began slowly adding it to the mixer, growing more and more excited as the mixture slowly started to look like cookie dough. Carlos then added the chocolate chunks into the mixture, before TK followed that up by adding the mini marshmallows and folding them in.
When the cookies were all scooped onto a tray and ready for the oven, Carlos set the timer for 11 minutes as TK placed the tray inside. Turning around, TK made his way over to Carlos at the counter, and pulled him in for a quick kiss.
"Thank you for helping me make the cookies, baby. I had a pretty rough day and baking makes me feel happy, especially when I get to do it with you," TK said with a smile.
"Of course, any time. I'm sorry you had a rough day."
A noise of agreement was the only response Carlos got, as TK pulled him in for another kiss, and before they knew it, the timer for the cookies was going off. Pulling the cookies from the oven, TK set the tray on the stove top, as Carlos got out some plates for the pizza.
Carlos and TK then spent the rest of the night devouring the pizza, watching TV and eating the cookies as TK sat with his feet in Carlos' lap, content to have a relaxing night in with his fiancé.
