Work Text:
December was in full swing, and Hanukkah was one day away, as TK lay in the arms of his fiancé, Carlos, on their living room couch.
"Hey Carlos? What were your Christmas traditions as a kid? What did your family do?"
Sleepily, Carlos stirred a little in order to turn his face towards TK to answer. "Well, early December, we'd go and get a Christmas tree from the Christmas tree farm, for Christmas Eve, my sisters and I would open one gift each and leave out cookies and milk for Santa, on Christmas Day we'd open stockings and the rest of our gifts, have cinnamon rolls for breakfast, go to church, and have a big meal of different kinds of tamales with different fillings. What about your family?"
"Well, we would have a fake Christmas tree, cause when I was a kid, even though we were Jewish, I wanted a tree because all my friends had trees, we'd light the menorah each night during Hanukkah, and while we did that we'd read scriptures and sing a special hymn, I would get a gift to open on each night of lighting the menorah, and then on the last night of the lighting, we'd have a meal of latkes. Which are potato pancakes!"
"I know what latkes are, TK."
"Oh. I just had a brilliant idea Carlos! Hanukkah is tomorrow, and we already have a tree which is decorated. Would you like to celebrate Hanukkah with me? We can get each other small gifts for each lighting night, and then on the last night of lighting, we can have a meal of latkes and tamales! Blend our traditions! Start it this year, and continue into the future and teach our future kids the warmth and love of two holiday traditions together!" TK said as he excitedly turned in Carlos' arms with a light in his eyes that hadn't been seen since he got home from his shift.
"That sounds like a marvellous idea, TK. I'm looking forward to learning more about Hanukkah and celebrating it with you."
"Great! I love you."
"Love you too, babe," Carlos replied as TK pulled him in for a kiss, deepening it when Carlos wrapped his other arm around TK and pulled him closer.
