It was a cold and dark night. The light from the windows of the houses near by made it seem cozy. But it wasn’t. Not for her. There will never be a cozy night for her, she thought.
So she ran. She ran and ran until she felt her legs hurting so much, it was almost unbearable. But only almost.
In the street she’d reached the lights were off. No one who was watching TV with people they love and no one cooking with their friends.
She was happy about it, if she wasn’t having a good time why would anyone else? She looked up into the sky. Because of the lack of light she was able to see the stars perfectly and then she felt sad. Why her? Why did this happen to her and not to anyone else? Why now?
But she knew she could not change her situation so she just accepted it. She’d been doing this since her childhood; being sad does not help anyone, so one must never express it, its only a bother to everyone around. As much as she tried to remind herself of that, it didn’t help.
She felt a single tear drop fall. And another one. And then several more. She could not stop it. Why? Why was she crying?
A window light lit up. She could not let anyone see her like this. Not now. She started walking. And then running. Once again she ran without any directions. The wind felt nice on her face even if it felt like it was cutting her, it felt nice. She felt free, unreal and disconnected from everything. She wanted to feel like this forever but she knew this would not ever be possible. She was stuck in her skin. She was stuck and no one even knew about it. She had stopped crying.
