When Itoshi Rin had asked him on a movie date, Isagi had almost immediately said yes, excited to spend some time outside of soccer with the other boy.
When Itoshi Rin told him that he had bought tickets for a horror movie, Isagi almost immediately regretted his decision.
Horror movies weren’t exactly his thing. This one in particular was really getting to him, as he gripped the armrests on either side of him, his heart pounding as he clenched his teeth together tightly, trying his best to keep his composure as the horror movie Rin chose continued. He tried his hardest to not close his eyes despite knowing something was going to happen soon that would make him embarrass himself. A jump scare, a dead body, any typical horror movie trope that would make him gasp and flinch and have Rin laughing at him again.
Tearing his eyes from the silver screen in front of them, Isagi glanced at Rin to his right. He looked almost bored, arms crossed over his chest as he leaned back in his seat, intently taking in every moment of the movie.
Isagi returned his eyes to the screen just in time to see the monster that had been terrorizing the main character for the entire movie materialize, just as expected, and Isagi gasped, as expected, and screwed his eyes shut. Isagi had never really been one for horror movies, preferring action or comedy or even romance, but Rin had insisted they see this one. It was some sequel to another movie he had seen previously, and he tried so hard to get Isagi to watch the first one with no success.
Isagi frowned and glared at his date when he heard the slightest of chuckles coming from the boy sitting beside him. Completely unphased by the screaming and the monster chasing the main character down the hallway, and yet a small smile curled at the edges of his lips in contrast to the horror movie on screen.
Isagi crossed his arms over his chest with a huff, leaning away from Rin and his mocking smile. Isagi could tell Rin was watching him more than the movie at this point, so he shot him another glare and stuck out his tongue, before turning his own gaze back to the screen.
They were nearing the end of the movie surely, and he would only have to subject himself to this torment a few moments longer…but that also meant he could not relax, as each scene simply packed on the jump scares one right after another. Isagi grabbed the collar of his shirt, pulling it up over his mouth so he could stifle any further gasps that he would undoubtedly make.
But a shirt wasn’t enough to stifle the sound of him yelping when he felt Rin’s fingers dig into his side at the exact same moment that the monster bit off the main character’s head…
Feeling his cheeks burn from the shame of being shushed by the people in front of him, Isagi rubbed at his ribs, unsure if the yelp came from being startled, or at how fucking hard Rin had poked him in an attempt to scare him.
As the movie came to an end, Isagi sat with his arms crossed, attempting to protect the softest parts of his belly from Rin’s boney fingers. Rin laughed again, hand covering his mouth to muffle the sound as the lights came up, before looking at him, a victorious smirk on his face.
“See. I told you that you would scream.”
“You cheated . I didn’t scream at the movie, I screamed when you decided to try to gouge out my side.” Isagi pouted, no longer caring how pathetic he looked as they stood up and stomped out of the theater.
“Doesn’t matter. I still won the bet,” Rin stated triumphantly. He didn’t even care that Isagi was trying to outpace him in the hallway and leave him behind, knowing Rin would strike and jab him again if he relaxed for even a moment. “You lost, so you have to pay for dinner now.”
Rolling his eyes, Isagi came to a stop outside of the doors of the movie theater, looking up at Rin, who was more expressive in this victory than for any soccer match they had won together. On a base level, seeing Isagi tremble and scream in fear of a horror movie that didn’t even phase him must have been a more satisfying win for Rin than any soccer match would ever be.
With a sigh, Isagi accepted his defeat, his shoulders sinking as he allowed Rin to grab his hand, dragging him down the street to the restaurant of his choice.
“You’re not gonna get me again…” Isagi swore, setting his shoulders confidently as they strode down the street. “We can watch that other movie later, and I swear you won’t get me to scream again.”
“We’ll see about that…” Rin said, not believing in Isagi for even a moment. “I’ll just have to think of an even better prize for myself since I know I’ll win.”
