“Do we have to study now?” Miyamura whined. Hori and Miyamura were studying for one of their upcoming exams, and only 10 minutes in Miyamura was already bored. Hori rolled her eyes at her boyfriend and stood up and started walking to the direction of the kitchen to get water for the both of them.
“Yes we do have to study now because if we don’t the-” Hori started but stopped when she felt two pairs of arms wrap around her in a hug. Miyamura rested his head on her head and squeezed his girlfriend.
“But” Miyamura started, “Studying is boring and we have a couple weeks before we have to take the exam, so” One of his hands snaked around her waist to pull Hori even closer to him, “We don’t have to start studying on the day we have been told about it” Miyamura said, burying his face in the crook of her neck.
“I-I guess we don't,” Hori said, a blush creeping on her face from her boyfriend's sudden actions. They're not really an affectionate couple, so when Miyamura does initiate physical contact, it startles her very much.
“So,” Miyamura said.
“So” Hori repeated.
“Wanna watch a movie?” Miyamura asked his girlfriend.
“I’d love Miyamura too” Hori said, turning to make them face to face, she can see the soft smile he gave her and she can’t help but reciprocate it. It’s impossible to not smile when he's around, she thought.
“Yay!” He said, pulling her back into the living room and sitting her down right in front of him. He caged her in with his legs and grabbed the remote to turn on the Tv.
“What do you want to watch, Hori-san? A horror or a comedy? Oh we can watch this ne-” Miyamuras rant was cut short when he heard the front door opening. His eyes widened when saw his mum and dad walk in. His parent’s shocked faces made him remember the position he and Hori-san were in and quickly removed his legs which were once around her now crossed legged in front of him.
Hori followed his gaze to see her boyfriend's parents still staring at them with wide eyes. After a few seconds of no one moving a muscle, Hori got up while dragging her boyfriend to his feet and walked towards the newcomers.
“Hello! I don’t think we have been properly introduced,” Hori said to them, she bowed before them and said “I am Hori Kyouko, you son's girlfriend. It is a pleasure to meet you too”
Snapping out of her shock, Miyamuras mother smiled warmly at the girl. “Ah hello Hori-san, I am Miyamura Iori and it is also a pleasure to finally meet you. May I call you Kyouko?” Iori asked the girl who nodded in response. Noticing that her husband has failed to make any communication with her son's girlfriend, she elbows him in the stomach to ‘wake him up’.
“Oh um hello Kyouko, uh yes it is a great pleasure to meet you, my name is Miyamura Naozumi” Naozumi stuttered out, his wife rolled her eyes at he tried, but failed to play it off cool as if they both just hadn’t walked in on their son cuddling against a girl. He has definitely been shocked worse. Definitely.
Miyamura just stood there frozen in place next to Hori’s side. He was too embarrassed to say anything and it looked like his girlfriend noticed because she continued the conversation as if nothing had happened.
“I am sorry if I intruded in your home, but Miyamura and I were supposed to be studying and were about to take a break and watch a movie,” Hori explained to them. Miyamura was just glad that he got a girl that could talk for the both of them in awkward situations. Damn he loved her.
“It’s okay Kyouko, you're always welcomed here.” Iori said to the girl. She liked her already.
Seeing as her boyfriend was about to start the day dreaming about who knows what, she elbowed him in the stomach, just like his mother did not a moment ago. This action catches the attention of Miyamuras parents, who smiled at the similarity.
“W-We were just about to pick something to watch before you came home, you can join us if you would like?” Miyamura asked his parents while rubbing his stomach.
Sharing a smile with her husband, she nodded to the couple.
“We would love to. Oh! Why don’t I get something for us to eat while we watch the movie?” Iori said, already heading straight to the kitchen.
“I’ll help you” Hori offered, and the wide grin Miyamuras mother gave her was a sign to follow her into the kitchen. Hori gave her boyfriend a thumbs up and followed his mother.
“I-” “U-” The two helpless boys started and awkwardly laughed at each other without making eye contact. After a few moments of awkward silence with his father, Miyamura began to move his lips to apologise before his father cut him off.
“She seems like a nice girl,” Naozumi said, glancing at his son.
“Uh- well yes she is” Miyamura stuttered out. He had no idea what to say in these situations.
“How long have you guys been together for?” His father asked.
“About a year I think,”
“Oh? And why am I only meeting her now?” Naozumi asked, Miyamura only smiled sheepishly at his father.
“Well I don’t know. You never asked” Miyamura pointed out.
His father quirked an eyebrow at him and said “The thought never crossed my mind that my gloomy son would even get a girlfriend”.
“Wah- Hey! For your information we started going out even before I cut my hair!” Miyamura said to his father. He couldn’t believe that he didn’t have any faith in him in regards to getting a girlfriend.
“To be fair though the only friend you’ve ever brought or mentioned was Shindou” His father pointed out, attempting to defend himself.
Miyamuras shoulders slumped when hearing his friend's name.” I have way more friends than just Shindou now” Miyamura mumbled.
His father only smiled at him and was about to start teasing his son before he was interrupted by his wife barging in with his son's girlfriend trailing behind her, a smile plastered on both their faces.
“Ok so, we have chocolate cake for our snack tonight gentlemen!” Iori announced as she set the cake on the table while Hori started to set the plates down.
Once everything was placed on the table Hori looked at Miyamura with a questioning gaze as she noticed her boyfriend sitting on the floor instead of the perfectly comfortable couch. When she saw him shrug under her gaze she moved to sit down right next to him.
“So, what were you guys going to watch?” Iori asked as she sat down next to her husband who was sitting on the far end of the couch, a good enough distance from her son which earned her husband a questioning look and just like Miyamura he shrugged in response.
“We were discussing that before you walked in. We usually watch horror movies though” Miyamura said, his gaze glued to the tv screen as he started to look for the right channel.
“A horror movie?” Iori mumbled.
“You hate being scared,” Naozumi pointed out to the black haired boy who just nodded in response.
“Yeah I do but Hori-san loves horror movies” This little bit of information was enough for the older couple to share a knowing glance and a chuckle came out of both of them. When Miyamura sent them a questioning look she smiled at her son and noticed that her son's girlfriend is growing a blush on her cheeks.
Not wanting the opportunity to go to waste to tease the couple she asked them “So if Kyouko liked bungee jumping would you go with her? Even though you hate heights?” Seeing her son's confusion grow she had to hide another smile by biting into a slice of cake.
“I would do that. Why?” Miyamuras answer made Hori blush even more and she started eating her slice of cake to stop herself from hitting him for his obliviousness.
“Oh nothing, nothing” Iori said. That response was enough for her to know how much her son loved his girlfriend “I just wanted to know how far you would go to do something you hated for Kyouko” Her response made Miyamuras face flushed and he quickly averted his gaze back to the Tv.
“I would do anything for Hori-san,” Miyamura mumbled, hoping that was enough information his mother needed. He has never wanted to watch a horror movie again.
Iori just hummed in response and rested her head on her husband's shoulder. Seeing as Hori's face was beginning to grow redder and her slice of cake nearly gone she knew she had to stop now before things escalated too much.
“You dummy, don’t say things like that” Hori said to Miyamura while slapping his head. He whined at her but smiled when she kept saying ‘dummy’ ‘dum’ ‘dummy’ and crossed her arms over her chest. She was so cute when she acted like this, he thought.
Looking back at his parents and seeing their confusion he said “When she says dumb or dummy once she can’t stop saying it” He said, smiling fondly back at his girlfriend.
When he found the movie and started it, the conversation died down and not even a little mumble of ‘dummy’ was heard from Hori.
Miyamura looked at his girlfriend as she leaned forward, already captivated by the movie. Without his parents looking he pressed a short sweet kiss on Hori’s cheek and wrapped an arm around her, bringing her closer to him.
His parents saw this action though, and they knew from then on that someday Hori Kyouko would soon be Miyamura Kyouko in a few years time. And they couldn’t be happier about it.
