(A different take around the Frogs of War Arc)

Rook goes after Ben to make sure he is alive.

Except when he finds the hero, Ben is different. Physically and mentally.

Now Rook's mission is to protect Ben, when he cannot protect himself.

Chapter 1: The Search

Chapter Text

Rook was born to be quick on his feet. That was how he was able to survive his planet. And when on the job.

That part of the job was also to protect his partner, Ben Tennyson: Definite hero of the Universe. That trait also allowed him to go undetected when he made the ultimate choice that night.

When poor Ben was sent away by the Incursions, all because the Plumbers were forced to surrender Earth and Poor Ben was told to leave, Rook also wanted to object with him, but Magister Max's stern but apologetic look told them otherwise all because "at least I know you're alive."

That last part gave Rook trouble sleeping the night after that. So many questions forming from his mind.

Did Ben find a planet to land? Did Ben even land softly? Were the people acceptable of the Ben 10? Was Ben getting proper nutrients?

So many questions that weren't answered well. The one Revonnahgander on Earth thinking about the one person that really enjoyed his personality, being patient with him, and also got him purring when they snuggled in the back of the truck that one time at night when they visited the lake and Ben was rubbing his head on Rook's chest because of all that fur...

Wait...why did he think of that in that kind of way? He does have a girlfriend back at home, but she was a blooming flower while Ben was becoming more of a bright star glimmering through his body including that rich... Why did he imagine about Ben's butt like that?!

It didn't matter at that moment. Rook had to make sure Ben was safe and sound.

That was why he snuck into Plumber Headquarters and took back his Proto-TRUK. Having a few EMP devices was beneficial to jam only the surveillance to hide his tracks, even if people find the truck gone. His only fact of easily escaping was that no Incursion was chasing after him. Maybe because it was nighttime and basically everyone in the whole planet was asleep that moment.

But Rook didn't need to sleep tonight. Not when he still was hot on Ben's trail. Or rather, the trail of his escape pod. Turns out Incursion escape pods leave chemical trails even in the empty space environment. And the trail ended up having him go north, where some parts of Black Markets and other illegal trading posts are said to be at. He didn't like going though such areas, but the itching risk had to be left alone, considering that his Ben was out there possibly in danger.

As he made the landing, he could feel the breeze. He could see the sign that marked the civilian area he parked a bit far, but close to. Hadestown was the possible wording of it. An odd name, as he heard about that word when Ben tried to describe Greek mythology of the Hades' domain. Where the dead linger in misery for eternity. The town almost looked nice from the range he could see it at, but the inside was defiantly terrible. Crawling with thugs and hoodlums and lowlives that threaten to steal any innocent soul that comes into the town borders. And his Ben was one of those innocents.

"Wait for me Ben-Dude," Rook whispered "I am coming with you."
