Summary:

22nd NEWS Advent Calendar Drabble (ShigeMassu)
Massu forgot his pullover at Shige's.

Notes:

Last ShigeMassu of the series! Christmas is coming!

Work Text:

Against all odds, Massu’s perfect for Shige, and the writer likes to think the opposite is also true. They’re not particularly alike and they’re not that different either, but their needs and wants are surprisingly compatible.

They don’t plan to move in together or anything of the sort because meeting once in a while at Shige’s suits them perfectly. They don’t talk much and don’t share many interests. Existing next to each other is their favorite activity – in the same room, sometimes on the same couch, their arms or knees touching. Shige feels recharged after they do. They sometimes cuddle and even make out, when they feel like it, and even that is incredibly easy for Shige, who has never found anything related to sex or relationships easy before he and Massu admitted they were something.

The lack of definition is further proof (if any were needed) that they go well together. Most people Shige knew the way he knows Massu freaked out when they realized Shige was reluctant to use words such as ‘boyfriend’ or ‘relationship’. In their case, Massu and him can hardly use the expression ‘more than friendship’ because they're not exactly friends in the first place, more like esteemed colleagues and fellow members who stay when everyone leaves – except Koyama, of course. Yet what Shige feels for Massu is love, somehow. Unconditional, unexpected love. Whether it’s romantic love or not, Shige couldn’t care less, and so does Massu.

Shige thinks about all this as he watches Massu leaving his apartment after they spent the afternoon together, one writing and the other taking a well-deserved nap. Massu just puts his hand on his shoulder and Shige smiles at him in return.

“See you tomorrow,” Massu says gently.
“Careful on the road,” Shige replies.

It’s that simple. Shige’s once again amazed by how calm he feels around him. And as cold as it sounds, he loves the way he can forget about him as soon as he's out of sight, because Massu is not one of the bothersome ideas that keep running in circles in his brain.

That explains why Shige is surprised when he finds Massu’s pullover on his couch a couple of hours after he left. He smiles when he realizes he could have guessed it belonged to Massu even if he had found the cloth at the agency in a crowded room : it's over-sized (sorry, Massu-sized) and it has bold geometric patterns that indicate a very expensive brand.

You forgot your pullover.

You can keep it, I don’t think I’ll wear it again :)

Shige snorts when he reads Massu’s answer to his text. It's just like him to let go of a cloth that probably costs a rent. He’s positive the pullover won’t suit him and that he won’t wear it outside of his apartment, but at the same time it seems perfect to keep him warm during his writing sessions.

As expected, Shige feels ridiculous as soon as he puts on the pullover, like he's still a kid trying on adult clothes, but it’s just as comfortable as it looks. Shige thinks the experience is worth another text.

You don’t smell anything, it's disappointing. Are you even human?

It’s time to confess I’m actually a robot :p

It smells like your after-shave.

He doesn't exactly know why he shares that information but he doesn't mind. It seems Massu doesn't either, as he texts back :

Do you have anything planned for Christmas? We can grab some fried chicken and have it at your place <3

I'd love that.

Don't wipe your greasy hands on my pullover though!

I thought it was mine.
