Chapter 1: The Second User

Chapter Text

"Katsuki, the funeral will start soon"

I gazed down at the tear filled eyes of the old hag. I knew she was barely holding on, keeping that dreary, lifeless smile she had on her face for my sake. I was grateful but the pitiful smile and dull eyes making me feel colder than that of the dead body that I would soon see lying in the casket. If you'd ask me even days before now I never would of guessed he'd be the one laying dead instead of me. For all that I teased Izuku I had grown fond of the man that he had grown to become, a man who I could say I respected, one i shared both joy and pain with. But now as the hours ticked by the only memories I could recall of him were the ones of the pitiful boy he once was, looking up to me with admiration; those green pearls shining with a light I could never find in my own eyes. I could never forgive myself for those days for all that i have come to accept the devastating actions I took against those unlucky to be around me. I could never look into the eyes of an innocent man in the mirror again not without seeing those admiring emeralds gleaming back up at me as open as the fields that would stretch across miles of land. Now I could only describe them as lifeless, dull and now shadowed with the grace of death.

"Katsuki its time to go"

Someone whom was vaguely familiar called ominously through the now empty graveyard. At first I thought it was Izuku his spirit finally calling me to the afterlife and in a part of my mind I wanted to follow it desperate for this sick form of atonement as the chance was bestowed to me. But instead I turned to see a man taller than me with broader shoulders but still with mirrored spiky blonde hair looking much more retained than my dirty locks forgotten in these never-ending times of sorrow.

"Did you not hear me boy, I clearly said it's time friend of the 9th user"

The tears that I didn't know built up slowly clearing as I rubbed them to get a better look at the man in front of me, a man who possessed knowledge that only me and the fallen held. Puzzled, I drew closer to the uncanny figure, now finally catching a glimpse of the ethereal crystal blues shrouded in the knowledge and pain of a wise man.

"Who are you?"

I asked tone rough hysterical with suspicion.

"Clueless boy did your friend not tell you the consequences of your actions"

The man practically scoffed, incredulous to my puzzlement.

"If you mean Deku, then no he didn't tell me, I wonder why; maybe its because he's dead"

Voice gruff but carrying an air of regret, I knew I let my emotions out as the man made eye contact with me, his eyes piercing me like bullets. I felt as if this man could see right through me as he gave this aura of omniscience now clear as his crystal pearls struck me with the fear that maybe this mask I've been holding for so long has finally come crumbling down along with the death of someone who had followed me, stood beside me and ran ahead of me all in the span of my adolescence.

"Silly boy, do you not realise who I am by now. You should be lucky the 9th has chosen you" his voice barely a whisper but as domineering as the hag can be after missing her morning coffee.

"First of all, how am I supposed to know who you are. Second of all, why would Deku ever choose me after all I'm not known for my kind attitude even that clueless Icyhot would be the better choice" I sneered out.

"Katsuki, listen to me. Stop with the attitude. I'm no longer going to squabble with you over an already decided fate, follow me." He commanded seemingly fed up with my little awareness on the current situation.

Then before I could even think of retorting with a snarky remark or more questions the unknown man dragged me by my wrist. Then there was darkness.
