Chapter Text
A tiny Draco stumbled along beside his mother.
Mrs. Greengrass had very recently had a baby. Draco wouldn’t care very much usually, but Mrs. Greengrass happened to be the mother of one of his little playmates, Daphne. He had not been able to play with Daphne for a month or so due to her mother’s condition, and he was thrilled to be back at the house.
“Now remember Draco,” his mother had said outside. “We are not here to play. We are here to meet the baby, and wish Mrs. Greengrass well. You can say hello to Daphne, but then we must go home. Mrs. Greengrass needs to rest.”
“Yes, Mama.” Draco had replied.
A house elf had opened the door to a room where Mrs. Greengrass was sitting, holding a very small bundle of blankets. She and Draco’s mother greeted each other warmly and Draco’s mother set a package next to the chair where Mrs. Greengrass sat.
After a few moments of talking, Mrs. Greengrass looked to Draco. “Would you like to say hello to the baby?”
“Yes please,” Draco said with all of his best practiced manners.
She beckoned him closer and lowered her arms to allow him to see.
Draco was absolutely mesmerized. He had never seen a real baby up close before. It was so small with dark hair with a scrunched up sleeping face.
“This is Astoria,”
“Hello Astoria,” Draco said, stumbling slightly over her name, as he was only three and had never said that before.
As soon as he finished speaking her name, the baby’s eyes fluttered open.
Draco smiled.
