Work Text:

Sometimes Wednesday wonders if Enid is intending to kill her off with a heart attack, or some type of allergic reaction, especially when she reveals the blanket she had packed for their picnic. The idea alone of a picnic was already trying her patience, but the bright blue and pink blanket (with shades of black) almost pushed her over the limit.

Enid was innocent to it, of course, probably thinking her allergy was nothing more than a silly joke her parents liked to tell. A part of her wanted to prove how true the illness was, but another didn't want Enid to have that sad expression she sometimes had. It pained her to see, so Wednesday wouldn't participate in creating it.

She sat on the grass next to the blanket as her girlfriend got everything out of the basket she'd dutifully carried with them. The view was sickeningly nice, with a lake and thick trees rattling with autumn air, birds at the pond and ravens in the trees, accompanying them and many others in the park. It may seem out of season for a picnic, but Enid ran hot with werewolf blood, and Wednesday was certain she personally became healthier the colder the weather. So, a picnic was suited to them.

Enid was rustling in the basket before she announced a pleased "ah-ha!" as she removed something from it. She lay it out beside her, and Wednesday realised it was pitch black fabric, with little white wolves embroidered into the cuffs.

"I didn't have anything big enough, so figured you'd appreciate the layers of blanket!"

Wednesday shuffled over, the uncomfortable chill, which was quite similar to the moments before touching electricity, faded away as she separated herself from the colour.

"You were correct once more, perhaps you read me too well."

Enid was almost vibrating with excitement as she pulled some food from the basket, quickly leaning across and kissing her forehead, through her bangs. Wednesday didn't put up a fuss, while she still refused to allow anyone to touch her, Enid was the exception. Hell, after Crackstone Wednesday hadn't slept for a week. Until Enid had offered to be her human hot water bottle after being woken up by her teeth chattering. Cuddling had been a catalyst to dating, and Wednesday had an unusual urge to perform a seance to contact either the mad pilgrim or Gates and thank them for being the push which rolled the rock of their relationship into forming.

She hadn't though, not yet, anyway. Didn't feel entirely appropriate. Enid shifted closer and offered her the food she had prepared with Thing. Fruit, some cake, chips and their own favourite sandwiches. Enid took the daunting risk of sitting across the black and colours, leaning a hand back which Wednesday covered with her own. They quietly talked about school, the upcoming holidays and their traditions.

"So you all wolf out and catch the prey, and the fastest gets to eat first?"

Enid nodded, nibbling her lip out of an unrecognizable feeling, one Wednesday connected to dots to quickly.

"You don't enjoy this tradition?"

Enid shook her head.

"No, the animal looks so scared when it's in its cage, and it's almost like, why put it through that added fear, you know?"

The Sinclair Clan were quite well-known, not the largest or most influential of families, but certainly a name everyone knew. Wednesday had done her research on them in her family library with her mother, and their backstory was as haunting as it was fascinating. She felt telling Enid that they previously hunted humans, and the fear made the meat juicier, wouldn't help the situation.

"I'm not looking forward to it, honestly…"

Wednesday braved the brightness and leant over, allowing Enid to rest her head on her shoulder, her own on top of her head.

"You could come to mine if you wish, but an Addams Family Christmas is nothing close to normal."

She moved a second before Enid snapped her head up, eyes with a huge smile, and she pondered if she had a tail, would it be wagging?

"Really?!"

Wednesday placed a calming hand on her shoulder.

"Yes, but like I said, there's nothing Christmassy about it. We don't even have a turkey, the whole family will be there, and we have a visit from father's friend in hell."

Enid shrugged the calm shoulder.

"Will you be there?"

Wednesday pulled a confused face.

"Of course, I live there."

Enid was bouncing on the spot.

"Then I would love to go!"

Wednesday nodded, fishing her phone from her pocket and very slowly typing a text to her brother.

Tell mother and father Enid will be joining us for the festive season.

She rolled her eyes but put the phone in her pocket again, nodding at Enid's battered breath expression.

"You're invited."

Suddenly she had an armful of werewolf, the blonde kissing her face over and over as she thanked her for the opportunity.

"And I'll get to see where you grew up! Can we see the cemetery too? The one you love?"

She may have been imagining the small blush on her girlfriend's face, but she nodded almost enthusiastically.

"I can even show you my great great auntie Sköll, a lycan who rises often enough, we may even meet her."

"I would love to!"

Enid's eyes dipped to her lips for a moment in question, and Wednesday nodded her consent, leaning up and closing the gap between them. Kissing was something she found she could enjoy, and quite often had to fight the urge to jump from excitement each time they indulged in it.

Despite being lost in the sensation of Enid, she still was an Addams, and so could tell when something was wrong. She pulled away a breath, doing her best so ignore the whine in Enid's throat. She very quickly removed her hand from her girlfriend's face, catching a rock as it sailed towards them.

"... What?"

They shared a quick glance before standing, Wednesday blocking one more before a yelp cuts her soul in two. Enid is holding her face, the side lacking the scars from Tyler, a thin cut along her cheek.

The Addams rage boils her gut, and she turns to see the group of laughing normies. Five of them, three boys, two girls, hands full of rocks.

"Wednesday, let's just go!"

"If we leave now they've won. They could do this to other people, those who haven't the skills nor anger I possess. Not to mention they hurt you, I'll see them buried to their necks in a scorpion pit."

Enid groans quietly as her tiny scorpion thunders over, quickly texting the group chat before following.

"Hey look, freak has a voice!"

Leader identified as the lanky teen with fingerless gloves and a letterman jacket, Wednesday twisted her stare to him.

"You will apologize to my girlfriend."

He burst out laughing at her demand, quickly changing to a serious expression.

"No, I won't. What I'll do instead, is have you thank me for cutting that gross lesbo face up!"

This was when Enid joined them, resting her hand and the lower of Wednesday's back, making the group laugh again like brainless buffoons.

"Oh, no way! She's already cut up!" He cried out, pointing at her scars. Enid felt her teeth ache, but she swallowed them back, half wolfing out wouldn't help the situation. She felt an unusual shiver go up Wednesday's spine, and quickly grabbed around her waist as she lurched forward.

"Wednesday, wait-!"

They laugh again.

"What kind of name is Wednesday?" One asked, the leader replied.

"Obviously some gross lesbo one! Suits the ugly fagg-"

Enid let go of Wednesday as her mind changed, eyes itching as the white changed to black, lip twitching over her lip as a grumble vibrated from deep in her chest. The leader stepped back, but flushed with rage at his weakness.

"You're a mutt too?! I knew I could smell wet dog-"

He stopped talking as a knife had found its way into his mouth, held against his tongue. He tried to step away once more, but an iron grip on his jacket stopped that from happening.

"Todd!"

So he has a name.

The snarl released from Enid's throat, stopping the others from getting closer, frozen in fear. She looked quite the sight, teeth bared, wolf eyes wide and watching their every move with veins running across her face, so their response was understandable.

"I wouldn't do that, if I were you. One slip, and this knife will find a way to keep your insolence internal for the rest of your life."

To emphasise her point, she allowed the tip to move half a millimeter, making him almost flinch. Her cold eyes bore through him, and he felt himself sink into desperation.

"You're going to apologize to my girlfriend," she continued, "and then, you're going to leave, and make sure I never see you again, are we clear?"

She moves the knife in time with his nod, and she pulls him closer.

"Good, and I'm warning you, try anything, and I'll take something of yours you hold most dear."

The knife is pulled out, but she holds his jacket still. The boy gulped and looked up with a watery gaze, sweat forming on his brow.

"O- okay! Okay, I'm sorry. F- for hitting you with a rock."

Her teeth clicked back up her jaw, and Enid nodded at him in minimal acceptance.

"Try to touch my girlfriend again and I'll string you up by your intestines."

Wednesday glanced to the side to meet Enid's eyes, which were now changing back to white. The normies were blessed with the tiniest of twitches in her lip, which to Enid meant a full blown smile.

"I fear I am rubbing off on you, mi licántropo. "

Enid grinned, canines still sharp.

"Lucky me."

Unfortunately, Todd wasn't as sentimental as them. He raised his hand, which still held the largest of his rocks, and threw it at Wednesday's head as hard as he could, despite the close distance. One of his friends cried his name, gasping in fear, as Wednesday expertly moved out of time at the exact last moment. She acknowledged him with a tired expression, before she cut across and separated his little finger from his hand.

There's precisely 2.3 seconds before he yells, falling to his knees and holding his hand, staring in increasing horror as it splurts blood like a fountain. One of his friends feints, two scream, and two look as though they're going to hit Wednesday. Teeth bared once more, Enid stops them in their tracks.

"I told you I'd take something."

He yelled again, shaking his hand as his finger lay on the ground. The two decided to try and be brave again, charging at Enid, who let her claws grow and ready herself, Wednesday at her side.

"Normies, stop!"

The siren song made them freeze with a glazed expression, as Bianca and Divina kept them at bay, Yoko appearing next to her friend to match the glare she was using, removing her glasses to reveal her ruby red eyes. It wasn't needed, the normies were essentially silent, apart from Todd, who was still wailing in pain.

"I'm gonna sue the fuck outta you! You fucking lesbo freak!"

Divina grasped Yoko's wrist to keep her in place, Bianca gesturing with her phone.

"I got you assaulting her first, I'm sure that'll hold up to something if you try and sue her."

"You-"

"Or." Wednesday interrupted, taking the finger and offering it to him, "You can go to the hospital and get this reattached. Your choice, homophobe."

He bares his teeth, struggling to his feet as his friends shake their heads.

"I'm not… urgh, fuck you!"

He lunged for the finger, and she pulled it out of reach.

"Or I can throw it for the birds to eat, maybe take another. Apologize."

He groaned and held his other hand out, gasping with tears in his eyes.

"Yes, yes please! Okay, I'll take it, I'm sorry!"

"Louder."

He whined but complied.

"I'm… I'm sorry for cutting your face!"

Enid nodded, not trusting her voice as Wednesday threw the finger for him to catch, the group scampering away with panicked cries.

"Normies suck…" Yoko grumbled before burying her face into Divina's neck as they hugged, the siren humming in acknowledgement and kissing her head.

"I know, they do. They do."

Binaca turns away to give them privacy, finding Wednesday and Enid in a similar situation. The knife now magically gone, she had both hands on Enid's face, the wolf holding her waist. Their foreheads were together, Enid with her eyes closed, while Wednesday watched with her unblinking stare. Although, if she had to be honest, there was a softness to her stare which made Bianca feel as though she were intruding on something very… delicate. They're whispering to each other in Spanish, a language she wished she understood, and  when they paused, cleared her throat.

"Sorry to interrupt, but we should get back to the academy."

Enid sighs and Wednesday kisses the tip of her nose.

"I agree. Let's go, mi licántropo, we can continue our date again tomorrow."

Enid nodded, finally opening her eyes and tenderly kissing Wednesday, making Bianca turn away.

"Can we cuddle later."

Wednesday glanced to the side before whispering.

"We always cuddle, no need to ask."

She nodded again and stepped away, being followed in step by the short psychic, who had a tiny smug smile at her smoothness.

"I like to ask, to make sure I'm not pressuring you, or-"

She was interrupted by a kiss, short and sweet, being gifted by a soft and very real smile from her girlfriend.

"You're disgustingly perfect, and I positively adore you."

Enid felt her eyes water and she kissed her, Wednesday noting with quiet glee that her cut was already healed and wouldn't scar, quickly pressing a feather light touch with her lips to the injury.

"I adore you too."

They're about to kiss once more when a tired groan comes from the side.

"Okay, I'm tired of being the fifth wheel. Let's go back to Nevermore!"

Wednesday allowed herself one more kiss before taking Enid by the hand and making their way back to the picnic supplies, already mentally planning their date for tomorrow.
