Chapter Text
Raiden swung his long legs into the partially open window, an entrance he had become very accustomed to making since Chevella had found her own permanent place to stay.
She didn't even look up.
Raiden assumed it was because she was expecting him.
"Not even gonna fake being surprised this time?" His grin was cheeky as always, but it quickly fell when he noticed she didn't even register his presence.
His heart began to race, although his demeanor continued to be nothing but casual.
"Hey, you alright?"
Silence.
He finally knelt down in front of her, searching through her brown waves for some sign of life in her eyes.
She met his gaze, what was usually a honeyed brown was glazed over, and dark.
Rai's expression turned serious, lips forming a terse line.
"Chev, what happened? Who hurt you?"
She burst into excruciating sobs, the first sound she'd made since he arrived.
He pulled her close, felt his heart breaking with each shudder against his chest.
After she had quieted, he pulled back some and gently rested his forehead against hers.
"Do I need to kill someone? You know I don't miss."
She cracked a brief smirk at his reference to their first meeting.
Raiden decided to count it as a win.
