Freshly Fallen Snow and Blooming Hearts

Summary:

“Songbird, why are you sitting on the roof?”
Grian turned to his partner and laughed as Hot-Guy landed next to him carrying a small pack that Grian had never seen before “Keeping an eye on the city, you never know when a warden or skulk-infected civilian starts to cause chaos.”
Hot-Guy rolled his eyes as he sat next to his partner. “Well, I doubt there will be any skulk villain attacks today it’s Christmas!”
Cute-Guy chuckled as he playfully punched HG in the arm. “Whatever you say, why aren’t you flirting with any civilians today then?”
He laughed as he handed over a small thermos that he pulled from the brown pouch that hung from his arm. “Trust me Songbird my eyes are only on you.”
You have no idea. Cute-Guy thought as he remembered HG Flirting with him when he was Grian
Cute-Guy felt his cheeks flush as he gently took the thermos and took a sip. “Hot chocolate?”
“Well, I can’t have you freezing while protecting the city can I?” HG asked with a giggle as he took a sip of his own hot chocolate.

Notes:

You will see that this is part one of a series I have yet to post on ao3, but this is a themed one-shot not part of the cannon story.
Also chapters in the real story will be way longer than 2000 words. This was just a fun Chrismas Drabble.

Work Text:

The snow fell slowly through the air as Cute-Guy found himself flying lazily above the town square watching children run and throw snowballs at each other and ducking behind the towering Christmas tree in the middle.
Mothers were chatting back and forth keeping their eyes on the little ones, a few adults were taking a stroll with their dogs.
It was a peaceful day in Boatem. The city was calm and the Christmas cheer was radiating throughout the entire town.
Swoosh!
A snowball whizzed past his head as the hero quickly moved out of the way and dived down, as he landed he noticed a few kids running towards him,
“Oh! Cute-Guy! I’m sorry I didn't mean to throw the snowball at you!” One of the children spoke up, as they stood in front of the crowd of children.
He chuckled. “It’s alright, I know you meant no harm.”
Grian now was used to people calling out to him on his strolls through the city watching over the people. He was no stranger to small crowds of kids gathering around him begging for him to play with them.
The tallest kid looked away shyly. “We are really sorry though mister.”
He chuckled again before looking at the piled snow, and the ten kids.
Grinning he thought of an idea. “Well, how about I be the referee, I point out whoever got hit and they are out of the game?”
All three looked up at him in shock as they cheered, the kids quickly split into two groups.
The game was set as the kids quickly made a small barrier with snow as they began to pelt each other with snowballs.
“Kid in blue hat on the right side you’re out!” Grian yelled as he flew right above the game dodging a few snowballs.
“Red jacket on the left out of the game!” He cheered excitedly as the game began to get more intense.
After a few minutes, only one kid was left on each side of the barrier.
Grian chuckled. “Whoever wins gets one of my feathers!” He called out to the children causing the kids on the side to began in chant the names of the kids.
“MARYANN”
“SEBASTION”
The snowballs flew out of both hands and Sebastian fumbled backward as a snowball hit him straight in the face, and Mary fell to the ground narrowly escaping the ball.
“MARYANN IS THE WINNER!” Grian yelled as he swopped down in front of the little girl who screamed happily
He quickly plucked a white feather from his wings and handed it to the little girl in pink. “Congratulations on winning Maryann.”
She smiled as she placed his feather into her pink hat. “Thank you mister cute-guy it was fun.”
“No thank you, I thoroughly enjoyed watching you guys have fun. It’s what makes being a superhero so rewarding.”
“Spoken like a true hero.” A young woman's voice spoke up as she approached him. “Thank you for playing with the kids it was the height of their day.” She curtsied with a smile. “I’m Mrs.Loveheart the caretaker at the orphanage, it made the kid's day to be able to play with you.”
Grian fumbled and smiled as he shook her hand. “No need to thank me, I promise it was truly the highlight of my Christmas.”
“I’m sure it was.” She smiled again before saying goodbye heading towards the children and getting their attention.
Cute-Guy waved to the children once more before taking off into the sky again, his sights onto the tallest tower in the city hoping to have the best view of the town.
Down below the city was lit up with rainbow lights bouncing off the bright snow littering the ground. High above them were small snow flurries and a superhero that only a few noticed as their gazed looked into the sky and saw a blur of pink flying by.
Grian slowed down as he landed on top of the tallets work office in the city.
The world was silent from way above, the grey sky was all he could see unless he looked down on the earth.
From up here all, he could hear was the howling wind.
It was peaceful.
In a sad lonely way.
It was just Cute-Guy and no one else.
Mumbo was with his family, and Grian didn’t know where Hot-Guy was, he figured the other hero was enjoying his Christmas as a civilian with his own family.
Yet here was Grian. He could go home to see his family, no doubt his sister Pearl and his little brother Jimmy would have been glad to see him again.
He didn’t though because someone had to watch over the town to make sure no more infected civilians were to be hypnotized and turned into villains.
The wind nipped at him as he closed his wings around his body desperate to stay warm.
How he longed to come home to a warm fire and some hot cocoa with his siblings.
He peered down at the city below his eyes falling on every small group of colors down in the city.
The people seemed fine at the moment.
Of course, Grian knew that meant nothing for at any moment a villain or warden attack could happen.
“Songbird, why are you sitting all alone on a roof?”
Grian turned to the voice and laughed as Hot-Guy landed next to him carrying a small pack that Grian had never seen before “Keeping an eye on the city, you never know when a warden or skulk-infected civilian starts to cause chaos.”
Hot-Guy rolled his eyes as he sat next to his partner. “Well, I doubt there will be any skulk villain attacks today it’s Christmas!”
Cute-Guy chuckled as he playfully punched HG in the arm. “Whatever you say, why aren’t you in town flirting with any civilians today then?”
He laughed as he handed over a small thermos that he pulled from the brown pouch that hung from his arm. “Trust me Songbird my eyes are only on you.”
You have no idea. Cute-Guy thought as he remembered HG Flirting with him when he was Grian
He felt his cheeks flush at the thought as he gently took the thermos and took a sip. “Hot chocolate?”
“Well, I can’t have you freezing while protecting the city can I?” HG asked with a giggle as he took a sip of his own hot chocolate.
“I suppose not.” Cute-Guy mused before a thought hit him out of the blue. “Although did you think about the fact that Avians might be allergic to chocolate?”
To his surprise, Hot-Guy laughed. “Of course, I thought about that. So I asked Grian about it a month ago, and he told me that half-breed Avains are in fact not allergic to it.”
Cute-Guy looked him up and down before tilting his head to the side. “Why do think I’m a half-breed?”
HG smiled. “Cause only half breeds have human legs.”
“Bingo,” Grian whispered with a small giggle. “You know more about hybrids than I thought.”
He chuckled again before leaning forward and tilting Grian’s head up toward him. “Trust me Songbird I’ve studied a lot just for you.”
His face flushed as he turned away. “You flirt.”
“Only for you.”
“And Grian,” Cute-Guy mumbled causing HG to laugh.
“Well yes, but unfortunately he has eyes for one of his co-workers, although I’ve failed to learn the name of said co-worker,” Hot-Guy responded sounding wistful.
Cute-Guy giggled knowingly. “So you have a type then let me guess, blonde-haired avains?”
He chuckled as he leaned against his partner. “I think you might be right. I mean what are the odds I’m attracted to you and Grian?”
He rolled his eyes again. “I think you just have bad luck. I mean both of us are in love with another person.”
Hot-Guy smiled sadly. “Yet neither of you seems to realize that the one you like is so lucky to have your affection. Why don’t you just tell them?”
Grian fumbled before looking down at the ground. “Fear of rejection, and what if the villain finds the person I fell for? Then they use him against me?”
HG leaned out and pulled Grian close his brown eyes staring into Cute-Guys soul. “Only a fool would reject you, and if a villain were to ever hurt him, I’ll do everything in my power to save him for you.”
Grian looked up at him as tears fell from his eye. “He’s in a wheelchair, I mean he can walk without his cane sometimes, but I can’t let him get hurt, not any more than the universe had hurt him.”
HG felt his cheeks grow warm as he pulled Cute-Guy closer to him. “If you’re talking about Scar I promise he will be safe I’ll watch over him.”
Grian froze as he slowly pulled away. He knew his crush on Scar wasn’t that surprising. after all the hero liked to randomly visit the teacher in the dead of the night as Cute-Guy.
“I’m sorry,” Grian whispered as he pulled away.
This was wrong.
He had just broken one of the number one rules of being a hero.
Keep your civilian life, out of your hero life.
“We aren’t supposed to talk about ourselves outside of being superheroes like this and I just ruined everything.”
HG shook his head and slowly took Cute-Guys's hand. “You did nothing wrong Songbird. You deserve Scar.”
Grian shook his head. “N-No, I don’t. I mean he doesn’t know who I am it would break him to know he could never see my real face.”
Hot-Guy chuckled, “He understands.”
Grian rolled his eyes. “I know he does but that doesn’t change anything-”
Hot-Guy leaned in close closing the gap between them Grian closed his eyes as he felt a sudden warmth spread around them.
Hot-Guys’s lips were chapped and warm, Grian could feel the small scars littering his partner’s face
His partner was kissing him.
Grian didn’t know what to do, he wanted to keep kissing Hot-Guy but he knew he was also in love with Scar.
Instead, Hot-Guy pulled away and Grian subconsciously chased the fleeting lips.
“Songbird open your eyes.”
So Grian did.
Scar sat in front of him, his hands wrapped around the hero and a cane placed on his back like Hot-Guys bow.
“HG?” Grian whispered his face turning bright red as he realized what happened.
“Pease forgive me.” Scar whispered back looking at him lovingly.
Grian wrapped his arms around him and sobbed. “You idiot, you just endangered yourself doing this.”
Scar chuckled. “Well I had to, It hurts to know you love me and I wasn’t supposed to know.”
There was one thing left.
It wasn’t like they hadn’t just endangered themselves already.
Cute-Guy sighed as he took Scar’s face in his hands and kissed him once more.
The familiar warmth overtook them both.
They pulled away and Scar’s eyes widened as he saw the blonde hair, rainbow wings, and the same red sweater he saw every day. “Grian?”
The blonde chuckled, as he leaned away from him, and the laugh came right after. “Do you know how annoying and frustrating it was for me when you’d flirt with me and Cute-Guy? For a while, I thought you knew my secret identity!”
Scar laughed happily as he ran his hands through Grian’s hair. “I guess my type all along was just you.”
Grian chuckled again before pulling Scar into a deep kiss.
Their arms wrapped another desperate not to let the other go as the cold wind nipped at them both.
“Merry Christmas, Scar.”
Merry Christmas, Songbird.”
Scar chuckled as he transformed back touching the magical jewel on his necklace as Grian did the same. “So should we tell our students that the writing and art teacher finally got together?” He asked with a grin as Grian’s face flushed.
“Oh god, they already tease me enough for hopelessly pining for you whenever we are in the same room.”
Scar chuckled. “I know, last week Tommy, Tubbo, and Ranboo asked me if I had asked you out yet at the end of class, After you came in and brought me those papers I needed.”
Grian rolled his eyes. “Those teens never leave us alone.”
He giggled. “They had a point though. I mean I don’t think you and I were ever not obvious.”
Cute-Guy sighed before kissing Hot-Guy’s cheek. “I suppose you’re right about that. But I better go home, my siblings are waiting for me.”
“Bye Songbird!”
“Bye Hot-Stuff!” Grian yelled back before taking off into the sky once again.
He knew later he’d probably have a breakdown with Mumbo about this but for now, he was still living off the adrenaline and mess of emotions he was feeling.
Besides, he figured Mumbo would be glad that the two finally revealed who they are to one another.

*A few hours later.*

“Hey Mumbo, I know Hot-Guy is Scar and He knows I’m Cute-Guy,” Grian said as he flopped on his roommate's couch.

It turns out.

Mumbo was not glad to hear it at all.

“YOU WHAT??”
“HOW DID YOU TWO FIND OUT?!” He yelled in horror as Grian laughed and began to tell him the whole story.
