“UUUGGGHHH I’m so bored” Eda said, banging her head onto her table.
It had been about a month since Belos and the collector had been defeated. As happy as everyone was that Belos was gone, the chaos that began under the collector’s eye had hardly dissipated. Some had tried to insert themselves as “saviors”, but had never caught on like Belos had so long ago. Many of the coven heads and the claw thornes had joined together to form a new system of government that could replace the coven system. Camila would also lend a helping hand whenever she and Luz would travel to the boiling Isles during the weekends. If you told her even a year ago that she would take part in forming a new government in an alternate dimension with demons, witches, and terrifying food, she would’ve thought you were Luz, as only she could come up with such an outrageous scenario.
“Eda, you need to pay attention” Lilith scolded, “this isn’t a class period that you can reasonably get your heads lost in the clouds, we need to-”
“I know, I know, but we haven’t exactly been throwing up ideas and suggestions the past few meetings. Why can’t we just go back to the quote on quote “savage ages?”” Eda replied
“Eda don’t be silly, the savage ages isn’t the utopia you make it out to be. Crime rates were much higher back then.”
“Are you still repeating Belo’s crap?”
“Wha- of course not, I asked mother what the savage ages were like, and she said crime was a more common occurrence.”
“Well I don’t see you coming up with anything better.”
Eda and Lilith took part in the world’s most intense, suspenseful staring contest to ever be conjured. They didn't fight as much as they used to, but they still held different ideals and philosophies of life that would naturally clash during times such as these.
“Eda, we’re all stuck on what to do, you shouldn't be angry at Lilith.” Raine said
“Maybe I could refill the drinks?” Camila suggested
Just in time, Luz and her friends had walked into the kitchen to see what progress the adults were making, suddenly, Luz was hit with an idea
“Hey, sorry if this is unrelated,” Luz blurted out, “do you guys celebrate holidays on the boiling Isles?”
“Yes.” Lilith said, “Some are small, such as Belos day weshouldreallygetridofthatone and some are titanwide, with multiple weeks worth of build up, such as macablar.
“Do you guys have something called Christmas?”
“No I don’t believe so, and where are you going with this?”
“Well, Christmas is only a week away, and you guys seem very stressed out, so I figured we could celebrate it, and…” Luz’s brain almost exploded from the connection she just made “oh my GOSH, this could be your guyses very first Christmas!”
“Luz, we’ve kinda got our hands tied at the moment.” Raine said
“Let the kid speak,” Eda said, “we could use a break anyhow.”
“Thanks Eda, anyways, Christmas is a wonderful holiday where families and friends all over the world come together to spend time together, decorate houses, put up trees, eat, and exchange gifts. People come together to put their differences aside and use the holidays as a way to be jolly. During a war, opposing soldiers even had a Christmas truce where they stopped fighting for a day.”
The witches were all intrigued at the idea
“Luz does have school off for a few weeks so she would be able to spend more time here.” Camila added, “I kinda forgot about christmas believe it not, just so much to worry about.”
“If what you said is true, then maybe we could use Christmas as a way to establish peace in the boiling Isles!” Amity said
My girlfriend gets me so well Luz thought
“That…doesn't sound like a terrible idea” Lilith said
“Oh, and maybe we could convince Bump to give us weeks off of hexside.” Luz chirped
“Seems a bit too cherry for my taste but ah-hex lets do it” Eda said
—----------------------------------
“Okay, the lights go on in 3, 2, 1…”
The tree had lit up like fireworks that had mixed colors together. The witches had initially covered their eyes due to the lights shining so much. But the tree had lit up parts of the owl house a variety of colors, mixing and transitioning with much polarity yet symmetry respectively. The witches could not close their mouths.
“J-just when I-I thought the human realm couldn’t become more awesome.” Gus breathed
“These lights are really quite extraordinary, I don’t think we have anything like these in the boiling Isles.” Lilith said in amazement.
“I already liked the tree with just the Ornaments.” Raine said
“I remember showing Luz these lights for the first time.” Camila said, “biggest mistake of my life.”
“Yea, but if you thought this was awesome, just wait till-.”
“It’s getting late kiddo, let's wait till tomorrow at least okay?”
Luz slouched in detection “Okay.”
Luz’s friends all said their goodbyes, with Amity giving Luz a quick peek on the cheek.
—------------------------------------
The days went by, Luz introducing the witches to more and more aspects of Christmas, which to the relief of the coven heads, was a great meditator for peace. Slowly but surely, peace was returning, and unrestrictive order was becoming established.
“These sugar cookies are so good.” Gus said
“Gus don’t eat all of them.” Willow said
“Luz’s mom cooks way better than Eda does.” King said
“Wh-King, you’ve never complained about my cooking before.”
“Because I had nothing to compare it to.” he replied
“Awww thanks for the compliment.” Camila said “I don’t encourage you being so rude to your mother however.”
“One more day till Christmas and- oh no, I forgot to buy presents for all of you.” Luz smacked herself on the head, she had spent all her time helping her friends with their gifts.
“Don’t worry about it batata, spending time with you is always a gift.”
“Aaaawwww, Te amo”
“Te amo”
“Barf” King said
All the owl house residents continued to celebrate the eve of Christmas, while guilt had begun to build up in Luz.
—-------------------------------------------
When everyone went home and/or asleep, Luz had snuck out of the owl house to go gift shopping at the very last minute. Luz knew she didn’t have the time or knowledge to get gifts for everybody, so she fixed her eyes and mind towards one gift for a very special person.
—--------------------------------------------
Luz snuck back into the owl house at around 6 Am, although Hooty had almost blown her cover. Wrinkled purple had sunken under her eyes and smiling was a difficult endeavor. Once she wrapped her gift, she had sunken onto the couch and attempted to catch the snoozes that her body ached so much for.
“Luz?”
“Oh, hi mom, I kinda had a hard time sleeping.”
“Well it’s just me that's up carino, you can go back to bed.”
“Oh, I can stay up, Christmas is practically here now so might as well.”
“Oh alright.”
—---------------------------
Most of the coven heads, including Raine had to make sure Christmas was rolling smoothly to the boiling Isles, meaning that the owl house only had the Nocedas and Clawthornes, that is until Luz’s friends came over in just a couple of hours after she finished early.
“We just had to come over as fast as we could once we were done opening presents at our houses.” Willow announced
“Well, let’s not waste any time,” Eda said, “I think King will love my presents.”
—-----------------------------
King stomped his foot, “Why must you always make me try out girly clothes?”
“Because you look adorable in them.” Eda replied, “and it’s funny to mess with you.”
“This is worse than what that BB gun kid had to go through.”
“Well I believe that’s all of them.” Camila said
“Wait, there’s still my gift!” Luz added
“I thought she said she forgot gifts.” Hunter stated monotony, indrenched in the new cosmic frontier issue.
“I couldn’t get much since I had to do some last minute shopping, but *yawn* I know you’d love this sweet potato.”
“F-For me?” Amity blushed
“Yea, o-open it.”
Amity did so in a meticulous and organized manner that stood out even compared to the garbage rivers the adults had formed.
“I-Is this a new Azura novel? I-I thought they stopped making them.”
“It is, this one takes place 25 years after the original series and focuses on Azura’s and Hecate’s kids. I haven’t read it yet as this one’s new, but it’s apparently even better than the originals. I *yawn* find that hard to believe tho."
Amity held the book close to her chest and thanked Luz before setting it down and giving her a hug, only to see that she had fallen asleep, awkward silence had ensured, although Camila seemed to put the dots together.
“*sigh* the lengths Luz goes for the people she loves.”
“What Do you mean?” Gus asked
“She snuck out of the owl house to find that gift, and I can’t imagine the book is easy to find here.”
"Boots, you’ve captured the souls of one of the sweetest people of the Isles,I don’t recommend screwing things up."
Amity chuckled, “I’ll try my best, I-I think I’ll help Luz to her bed.”
“Just make sure that you two hooligans don’t fool around alright.”
Amity’s tomato colored face had marked its grand return as she quickly ascended up the stairs. Everyone began to laugh at Eda’s comment, when the expectation of Gus who was just confused.
“Jokes aside, I really enjoyed myself, I wouldn’t mind doing this again.” Eda said
“It MUST become a holiday here” Gus preached, “Anyone who says otherwise should be petrified.”
Everyone had murmured in agreement, while trying to use the gifts they had received. Luz’s chaotic nature had brought happiness to everyone to the boiling Isles, and despite the challenges that were still prevalent, Luz was there to remind them what life could offer at its best, and what they could expect more of in this era.
