Chapter Text
Although they had only known each other for a short period of time, Daichi and Izuku had a wonderful friendship. It might be because they spend so much time together or that they both aren’t the judging type but somehow they have managed to have complete trust in each other despite meeting less than 12 months ago.
Daichi, being a dragon who can speak, communicates with his expressions and sounds. Izuku put time and effort into properly understanding what Daichi was trying to say when they first met. Now, one little huff from the dragon can tell Izuku a whole story, kind of.
There are still a lot of unknowns like where did Daichi come from? How come he chose to stay with Izuku? Why is he purple? Why does he have fur and scales? Why does he like the warmth so much? Why does he suspiciously act like a cat?
All these questions are ones that Izuku has already thought over. For most, he doesn’t have an answer yet. However, that won’t stop him from being the best friend he can be.
One of Daichi’s most useful abilities is that he is able to control his size. He could be the size of a house cat one moment but then grow to the size of a cruise ship the next. The is extremely overpowered and could be used to cause mass destruction and escape easily.
Luckily, according to Izuku’s calculations, growing and shrinking takes up quite a bit of energy and takes effort to do. Daichi is a lazy bum, just like the common house cat. Unless necessary, Daichi stays small enough to be carried and look gentle.
While it is tiring, changing size is something that Izuku likes to take advantage of. Like on days like this for example.
“It’ll be fun! I know it is cold now but we haven’t gone up in so long. Pretty please??” Currently, Izuku was draped over the back of the couch with his goggles in hand and speaking to Daichi.
Daichi, the unbothered king, continued to lounge on the couch and not even crack one eye open. Just one mention that it wasn’t hot outside and the entire idea was shut down. He’s a simple creature who likes to lay on the dishwasher while it’s on, sit in the bathroom while Izuku is using hot water and go out of his way to find heat.
There was a high chance of rain today and the wind was blowing more than usual. Because of that, the temperature dropped a bit and people tended not to go out.
Izuku, for some reason, decided today is the perfect day to go out flying. He wasn’t supposed to leave the school grounds without permission since his entire job was to protect the class and he can’t exactly do that if he isn’t there.
That didn’t stop him or Hiroto from leaving when they wished. Izuku is pretty sure though that he leaves more.
“I know, I know. Just for like half an hour though. What do I have to give you for you to take us?” At this, Daichi cracked an eye open to peer at Izuku from his spot on the couch.
A moment of silence passed, “I’ll take you to a hot spring?” He said it as more of a question.
Immediately, Daichi’s eyes lit up and he hopped off the couch.
“Yes! Let me get my jacket and phone and we’ll head out.” He would have to use his phone to legally get past Nezu’s security and warn Hiroto that he is leaving.
“I’ve pulled some strings, let's get going.” He pocketed his phone and he and Daichi walked to the window. The class was downstairs doing who knows what and it would be odd if he and Daichi suddenly left. Izuku would bet that he would be followed if that happened and then they would find out that Izuku wasn’t doing his job properly.
Izuku opened the window and was greeted by a sudden, gentle wind. He lifted himself up and out of the room through the window. Once he was on the outside of the building, holding onto a tiny ledge with insane grip strength, Daichi came out too. He looked less than happy to be out here while it’s chilly. He much prefers it when it is scalding hot and people sweat.
Izuku closed the window now that they were both outside. Daichi jumped off the ledge and landed softly on the ground. The camera’s were temporarily on a loop so that they could successfully pull this off.
On the ground, Daichi began to grow. It was an interesting process of watching something simply become bigger. The snapping and cracking of bones could be heard but apparently Daichi didn’t feel pain when he grew.
When he was big enough for Izuku to comfortably sit on, Izuku jumped down and landed on his back. Daichi let out a loud grunt at the added weight but shook it off.
“All ready?” Izuku asked. He had his balance and was sitting on Daichi’s neck. It was similar to bull riding in the sense that he didn’t have anything to hold onto to keep his balance. He could grab Daichi’s fur to stabilize himself but that would be painful so he just keeps them at his side and lets his bottom half keep him connected.
They took off into the sky in a random direction. They climbed higher and higher and the air became thinner. With a smile on his face, Izuku closed his eyes as his hair whipped around.
He put on the goggles that had been resting around his neck so that the air wouldn’t ruin his eyes. Going incredibly fast, they flew right into the wet, grey clouds.
For a few long seconds they couldn’t breath and couldn’t see more than just misty grey in front of them. However, they broke through and now slowly rested above the clouds. They could afford to go slower now since nobody on the ground could see them.
Unlike from the ground, the sky up here was bright pink, orange and blue.
“Stupid clouds, wrecking my pretty sunset.” Izuku muttered as he leaned back and laid on Daichi’s fur. They were moving slower than before but still very fast in the sky so Izuku kept his goggles on.
The sky almost always looked like this in the evening so it wasn’t anything special. However, it was still a beautiful sight, especially so high up in the sky.
Hearing this, Daichi slowed even more and lowered a bit. Together, they drifted just above the clouds and the wind didn’t slap at Izuku’s face as much. He took his goggles off and put them back around his neck.
They spent a lot of time just swaying in the air. This was a great chance to relax. Flying so high up made air scarce so Izuku did a special breathing technique, even though he could hold his breath for long enough.
He could have fell asleep up there with how quiet it was. He had had his eyes closed for the majority of his time up there so he finally opened them. He sat up more and looked around.
“The smell up here is way different. It’s purer and rain smelling.” Izuku said out loud. Daichi was also relaxing as he drifted while half asleep. “The cold isn’t too bad is it?” He asked quietly. It was so quiet that even a whisper could be heard. The only sound was the air around them that they were moving through. No traffic, no screaming, no footsteps, no bells, no notifications, no children and just no noise.
Daichi grumbled.
“I knew you would like it. Look” he pointed to the sky even though Daichi couldn’t see his hand. Daichi opened his eyes and scanned the sky. “It’s a full moon.” He had a fond smile on his face.
In the middle of the sky among the bright, warm colours sat the perfect circle of the moon. It stared back at them from where it hung.
Daichi shook his fur and closed his eyes with a crinkle.
“I know it's beautiful right?”
Izuku leaned forward and hugged Daichi’s big head. He rested his chin on the top of it and looked out in front of them. “Should I take a picture?” It was so beautiful it would be a crime not to.
Daichi huffed and turned around in the air to start heading back to UA.
Izuku got his phone out, careful not to drop it. He went onto the camera app and stuck his hand out. His own face, Daichi’s entire body and neck, the sunset and full moon all fit into the frame. He already had a soft smile on his face since this was a fond moment to he snapped the picture. He had the urge to send it to the class or select people in it. But he had to remind himself that they were just clients and he shouldn’t grow too attached to them. Also the fact that he isn’t doing his job.
He could send it to Hiroto but he decided against it. ‘I’ll just keep this to myself.’
He put his phone back in his pocket and took a deep breath. When he opened his eyes again he brought the goggles up again. “Let’s head to the dorms, I think we should have a movie night. Don’t you agree?”
Daichi, in response, crooned and bolted across the clouds. His sense of direction was foreign to Izuku as he burst through the layer of clouds right above the UA building. He brought them to the roof of the dorms where Izuku got off. He looked at the sky for a bit as he stood waiting for Daichi to shrink so they could go inside.
“We can’t even see the sunset from here. There’s gonna be some bad rain from those clouds I bet.”
He ripped his eyes off the clouds and turned to look at the now puma size Daichi. Still big, but he would fit through the doors.
“What do you want to watch this time?” Izuku opened the door on the roof and they both started walking down the stairs. “We aren’t watching How To Train Your Dragon. How about something more mature? Alice In Borderland is said to be good and it was made here in Japan.”
They got to Izuku’s room without seeing anyone. “Okay let me get changed and then I’ll make popcorn.”
When Izuku came back into the living room with comfy and oversized clothes, Daichi was still big and walking around in the kitchen. “Popcorn! How the hell did you make popcorn?” The microwave beeped at just the right time and Daichi looked over at it, signaling with his eyes. He had a bag of microwave popcorn in his mouth and was spilling it all over the ground.
‘I was gonna make the real kind with my popcorn maker but this works too.’ He went to the microwave and took out his own bag.
“Let’s start watching, shall we?”

If they pulled an all-nighter, nobody needs to know.
