Sleeptalker

Summary:

When Stolas discovers Blitzø’s habit of sleeptalking and how embarrassed he is, the goetia reassures him that there’s nothing to be ashamed about. (Inspired by mistmistly (Sierra)’s comic on Twitter!)

Notes:

A/N: Wooo! Baby's first Helluva fanfic! After reading mistmistly (Sierra)'s comic on Twitter about their HC of Blitz sleeptalking and Stolas just reassuring him that he's okay with it and validates him for it, I just had to write a one-shot based on it~ Hopefully, I portrayed Stolas and Blitzø as close to their actual personalities in the show as possible! Hope you all enjoy it!

Work Text:

“Oh, Blitzø! Please, please PLEASE! Just give me a chance!”

“Sorry, but my statement is final. You just don’t have what I’m looking for.”

“So..you’re not interested?”

Blitzø sighed. “Look, Horsella. You’re a nice lady! But I already have a boyfriend.”

“B-But, surely you two wouldn’t mind an open relationship, Blitzø?” Horsella begged. “I wanna be with you!”

But the imp shook his head. “Nah, that isn’t in the cards,” Blitzø replied. “Plus, I’m sure Stols wants me all to himself, haha.”

Tears had welled up in Horsella’s eyes as she sobbed softly. “Neigh… I understand…”

Blitzø gave the mare a reassuring smile. “Hey, don’t beat yourself up, kay? I bet there are plenty of people out there who would be interested in you.”

As Hell’s morning sun rays shined through the windows of Stolas' Palace, Blitzø groaned softly, his body beginning to stir.  “Mmm..Morning, Stols,” he yawned, his jaw stretching. He glanced over and noticed his boyfriend giving him a smug look. “...What’s with that look?”

Stolas chuckled at the imp. “Who’s this…Horsella I’ve been hearing about? Should I be worried?” he asked in a teasing voice.

Blitzø stared at the goetia with squinted eyes as if he had spoken in demonic tongues…before they grew wide with shock as his face flushed. “Wh-Who told you?? How do you know Horsella???”

“Oh, a little imp told me,” joshed Stolas as he gave Blitzø a wink.

Blitzø only stared in response, his entire body now shaken with a mixture of sheer confusion and embarrassment as he watched Stolas rolled out of bed.

Dammit, Moxxie! You said you would keep my dreams a fucking secret!

Immediately, he pulled out his phone and texted Moxxie, jumping straight to the accusation of him telling Stolas about his dreams involving Horsella. Only for his employee to respond curtly that he didn’t tell His Highness no such thing and that he hadn’t told another soul about his “strange dreams”. Blitzø face palmed, before his spines twitched in realization.

If Stolas didn’t learn about Horsella through Moxxie. Then that means… Blitzø’s face grew mortified. Stolas must have heard him sleeptalking last night…

ASSDAMMIT.

The imp was aware that on some, if not most nights he would constantly talk in his sleep. Come to think of it, Verosika would always comment on it too. She perceived it as very vexatious. A “disturbance to her beauty sleep”. The succubus even expressed it to the point that she forced Blitzø to sleep on the couch one month into their relationship.

‘From now on, you’re sleeping on the couch, Blitzo.’ Verosika would say, her groggy, yet irritated voice echoing in the imp’s head. ‘I’m not dealing with another night of hearing your dreams about stupid-ass horses,’

All of those nights sleeping alone on the couch came crawling back into Blitzø’s mind, his body now shaking with anxiety and embarrassment. All those times of snuggling with Stolas…he must have been annoying the shit out of him with all of his sleeptalking, keeping him awake in the dead of night! How long until the owl demon would kick him to the couch?!

Nonsense. Stols would never do that. Surely he’d understand it’s a habit of mine that I can’t control…would he?

Fuck no. He probably thinks it’s annoying and an inconvenience. He just doesn’t want to hurt my feelings.

No way does he think that! I mean, we’ve been sleeping in the same bed for quite a while. More than a month if my memory’s right! That’s a fucking record compared to sharing a bed with that drunken whore!

But what if Stolas has had enough this time? There’s a couch with your name on it! Blitzø the Sleeptalker!

…

Later that same evening, Blitzø had settled himself down on the sofa in the living room. His anxiety got the better of him, for he had practically turned said sofa into a makeshift bed. No way was he going to risk Stolas losing a wink of sleep because of something he couldn’t control. It was bound to happen anyway, right? Better to initiate it soon, than to risk the potential of dealing with a cranky bird. Blitzø was just about to close his eyes when…

“Blitzø?”

Oh, fuck…

The imp gazed up and quickly noticed Stolas looming over him from behind the sofa, his face filled with concern upon noticing the former claiming it as his new bed all of a sudden.

“Why are you sleeping on the sofa?” the owl tilted his head.

Blitzø’s entire face began to sweat, his anxiety slowly beginning to swell up. Quick! Think of a good excuse! “Uhhhhhhhhhhh…it’s…more comfortable…?”

Smoooth…

Stolas had one eyebrow raised, his eyes filled with doubt. Clearly, he didn’t buy his boyfriend’s “good” excuse.

Blitzø’s eyes moved away from the goetia for a moment before he took a deep breath and returned his gaze. “...Stolas…is there…anything I do that…annoys you?”

The owl demon blinked, taken aback by the imp’s question. “Why do you ask?”

“Shit…n-nevermind, it’s fucking stupid.” Blitzø looked away, his face once again flushed.

“...This is about your sleeptalking…isn’t it?”

Blitzø’s entire body felt as if it had been hit by a truck. Instinctively, he wrapped his tail around his body as his spines quivered. He could only answer with a nod.

“You don’t have anything to be ashamed of, dear,” comforted Stolas as he gave his boyfriend a gentle rub on his head. “It doesn’t bother me at all.”

“You’re just saying that to make me feel better,” Blitzø replied. “It bothers you a whole lot, I just fucking know it!”

“I promise you it doesn’t,” the owl demon reassured. “I haven’t kicked you out of our bed yet, did I?”

“You will eventually.”

Stolas sighed. It was too late at night for this to turn into an argument. “It’s nearly 11:00, darling. Come to bed.”

In response, Blitzø laid on the couch, immediately shutting his eyes as he covered himself up with his blanket.

“ Blitzø… ” Stolas suddenly warned sternly, getting irritated at the imp’s stubbornness.

“No.”

The owl demon groaned. He leaned down and attempted to grab Blitzø by the torso and carry him to their bedroom, like a little kitten. Which was deemed to be a mistake, for Blitzø started to hiss and thrash his body around like a rabid hellhound before he firmly grasped the head of the sofa with his claws.

“Blitzø, let go!” yelled Stolas. “You’re going to scratch up the sofa!”

“ No! This is my bed now!” Blitzø protested.

“I don’t care that you sleeptalk!”

“Yes, you do!” Blitzø retorted. “It’s annoying and embarrassing! You’ll hate me for it!”

“I will not! ” Stolas retaliated. “I swear to Satan, if you sleep on the sofa, I’ll tell Horsella you’re back on the market!”

“Fuck you! Horsella isn’t even real!!”

The two demons fought back and forth, Stolas used all of his strength to pull Blitzø while the latter tried to get loose from the goetia’s grasp, making a few scratches on the sofa. At this point, it practically felt like a game of tug-of-war. Eventually, Blitzø freed himself from his boyfriend’s clutches, and swiftly buried himself under the blanket, his body completely wrapped underneath it like a cocoon.

Stolas sighed as he sat on the sofa next to the imp, one hand resting on the blanket where Blitzø laid under.  “It’s okay, I don’t mind it at all, really!”

Blitzø didn’t move.

Stolas sighed, his tone becoming somewhat annoyed again. “Blitzø…am I going to have to come out to the couch every night?”

…

The goetia huffed at the imp’s continued stubbornness. “Fine. I’ll just go back to bed then. Our bed.”

Blitzø had wrapped his tail around his covered body, tugging the blanket from underneath even tighter.

Stolas’ beak scrunched up in a mixture of frustration and hurt as he stood up from the couch. He gave his little imp another glance, his arms crossed. “...You know…your feelings aren’t the only ones that matter,” he grumbled. “It hurts when you don’t take mine seriously.”

Without another word, Stolas left the room, leaving Blitzø all to himself. After a long moment of silence, the imp peeked out from underneath his covers, hearing the goetia’s talonsteps grow quieter down the hall.

………

Stolas couldn’t find himself falling asleep. He had laid in bed awake for what felt like an hour. It was just hard to sleep without Blitzø by his side. He didn’t care if he was easily awakened by his boyfriend’s sleeptalking. In fact, Stolas found it quite endearing. Hearing Blitzø ramble on about whatever silly little dreams he had in the middle of the night. Whether it be about horses or otherwise. It was more adorable than annoying if anything. If only the imp could recognize how validated he was.

Speaking of Blitzø, Stolas heard the door open, shortly followed by hoofsteps before he heard the imp climb onto the bed. The goetia internally sighed in relief.

“Thank you, dear…” he said as he sat himself up. “I know you find it embarrassing, but it’s really not a bother. It’s actually quite cute…”

Blitzø didn’t respond, his back facing the owl demon.

“...Blitzø?” Stolas called out.

No response. Had he fallen asleep already?

“Blitzø?”

Stolas placed a hand on the imp’s head. Once Blitzø had faced him, the owl demon had an expression full of shock, his white pupils taking form. Resting over the imp’s mouth, was a single piece of tape.

‘Oh, Blitzø…’

The goetia knew how embarrassed the imp was about his sleeptalking…but he didn’t think that he was this sensitive about it…

“No no no. Hey…” Stolas quickly consoled his boyfriend by caressing his cheek as he began to gently remove the tape. “You don’t need this. Not with me. Never with me.”

“A-Are you sure…?” Blitzø asked, hesitatingly. “...I’ve been told I’m ‘vexatious’ and say weird shit..”

Stolas chuckled softly, pulling his significant other into an embrace as he gently stroked him. “They’re all damn liars. As I said, I find it really cute.”

Blitzø blushed, his lips slowly curling into a bashful yet tired smile. “Fuck, I’m so embarrassed.”

Stolas gave Blitzø a kiss on his forehead, smiling back at him in return. “Don’t be.”

A low rumbling purr could be heard from the imp as he felt the crushing weight of his anxiety rise up from his chest. He absentmindedly wrapped his arm around Stolas’ torso, moving closer to the owl demon as he buried his head in his chest full of feathers. Not long after, Blitzø let out a soft yawn. Closing his eyes, he let the wave of sleep overcome him, his soft breaths gradually turning into soft snores. Stolas dozed off shortly after.

“Mmm…Horsella don’t…don’t do that..”

Stolas’ eyes slowly opened, glancing down at Blitzø before he covered his beak, giggling quietly at Blitzø’s tired mumbling. It really was cute.

“Horsella…don’t put the sock monkeys in the drawers…” Blitzø somnolently muttered.

“You tell her, darling,” Stolas talked back softly.

“They’re gonna tap dance… don’t tap dance…”

Stolas gave Blitzø another kiss. “I’ll stop them from tap dancing for you.”

“Yaayy…” the imp mumbled, before he returned to his snoozing.

Stolas let out another soft chuckle before he dozed off once again.
