Work Text:
Saturday. Beloved by all. A free day during the weekend that just hits the right spot. Especially when you make the right plans with the right people. Sero had no idea what he was going to do this Saturday but he knew pretty much exactly who he wanted to invite. His friend group obviously and somebody who didn't exactly fit the vibes of the group but they undoubtedly needed a break. Last class of the day for the week and Sero finally decided to invite the said person.
"Hey! Midoriya! You got any plans this weekend?" Sero asked, snapping him out of the void of his thoughts. Midoriya looked up at him in shock and thought for a moment.
"Other than training I don't think so! Why? What's up?" He asked with a smile.
"A couple of friends and I were gonna hang out tomorrow and I was wondering if you wanted to come along!" Sero smiled at him.
"You sure you don't want to invite anyone else? I wouldn't want to bother you!" Midoriya smiled and rubbed the back of his neck.
"Nah it's fine man. With you coming along it'll be an even number! Please?" He said. At this point, Sero was sitting on top of Midoriya's desk.
"Sure then!" He smiled up at Sero. "What were you planning?"
"Not quite sure but I really want you to be there." Sero smiled, Midoriya chuckled at this and sighed.
"Sounds like fun!" He said and the bell rang. Sero smiled and joined the Bakusquad to walk back to the dorms sending Midoriya a cheerful wave on the way out. As soon he was out of sight of him, Sero frowned slightly. He didn't mutter in class once today. As one could guess that was an abnormal thing for him. It was obvious when Midoriya showed up with the last few to class almost every day this week. Always running and sitting down almost out of breath. He looked quite frazzled and the usual ghosts of dark circles had become more prominent.
Hopefully, taking him out this Saturday will help Midoriya release some of the stress and let him relax. Sero knew how not great stress could be on a person. Anyways all that Sero needed to do now is find something to do tomorrow. They could all go to the mall and visit the aquarium. Maybe grab a bite? Sounds great! Soon enough everyone was at the dorm and doing their own thing after dinner.
~The Next Day~
Bright and early the Bakusquad and Midoriya were downstairs and ready to go. Sero smiled excitedly and grabbed Midoriya's hand to lead him out, surprised by the coldness of his hand and the slight tingle that he felt when grabbing it.
"You ready Midoriya?" Sero asked, looking at Midoriya with a wide smile that he returned kindly.
"Ready as I'll ever be!" He said enthusiastically, Sero chuckled at this.
Soon enough the group had made it to the mall and Midoriya's hand had warmed up a little bit after being in Sero's for so long.
"So what are we gonna do now?" Mina asked, Sero paused.
"Go wild for a while I guess. Do we want to stick together or split into mini groups and meet back at the cafeteria at lunchtime?" Sero asked. It sounded almost heavenly when he heard Midoriya muttering about which might be the better option based on fun, cost-effectiveness, and safety. He hasn't heard that in weeks and he was thankful that he was kind of going back to his old self.
"I vote split then meet." Mina smiled while putting an arm over Denki's shoulder to show her partner, who nodded in agreement.
"I vote the same." Kirishima nodded while putting an elbow on Bakugou's shoulder.
"I'd have voted to stick together but obviously the nerd is back to muttering and I don't want to deal with that." Bakugou agreed. Sero looked to Midoriya to get his vote and saw him frown.
"Kacchan that's probably not the best idea. I mean considering the last mall trip we went on and the whole you getting kidnap-" He started.
"Shut up. You don't think we could protect ourselves? I mean if you got caught by Shigaraki that would be your own fault but we wouldn't let that happen to ourselves." Bakugou interrupted him before starting to walk off. "Besides that's why we are in groups of two. You don't trust Sero?"
He then walked away with Kirishima and Mina with Denki. Quickly Midoriya let go of Sero's hand, leaving it sadly cold, and bowed faster than Iida runs.
"I am so so so so so so so so so sorry I made it sound like I don't trust your abilities. I know you've put in a lot of work in class to improve your skill, your strength, and, your quirk's abilities. Please forgive me for my paranoia and-"
"Midoriya." Sero cut him off. Midoriya looked at him. "It's okay. You went through several sucky situations and you are worried about your friends and your safety. That's a good thing. Thanks for looking out for our protection." Sero smiled and flipped it to hopefully help him feel less bad. He smiled worriedly, probably not buying it but, thankful for the effort. "So anyways. What do you want to do?"
Instantly Midoriya's eyes lit up with a more genuine smile. He took Sero's hand and pulled him to the manga shop.
"This!" He said while gesturing broadly and swaying slightly.
"I didn't know you were into manga," Sero said looking at him, Midoriya scoffed.
"Of course, I'm into manga. Have you seen my room?"
"Decorating it with your mentor's merch doesn't really scream. 'I read manga'." Sero chuckled.
"I enjoy All Might's manga series. Also, I changed it. I guess I didn't really tell anyone though." He shrugged before grabbing Sero's hand and leading him in.
For the next hour, the two browsed the store while ranting about different series and building on different theories. Although the two had never done this before it felt natural like they did this every Saturday. The whole interaction is making Sero happier and happier that he invited Midoriya along while making him more and more excited to invite him next Saturday. After a couple of minutes in his head and delving into a story Sero noticed that it was quiet. Pausing from reading to look at Midoriya, he looked pale and there was a vacant look in his eyes.
"Hey, Midoriya. You okay my guy?" Sero asked while putting a hand on his shoulder, effectively snapping him out of the void. Midoriya smiled his wobbly smile.
"I'm okay just a little nauseous." He replied while taking a deep breath.
"Oh shit. You are looking a little peaky. Should I take you back to the dorms?"
"Nah it's fine. I skipped breakfast so it's probably just a low blood sugar thing." Midoriya waved his arms.
"It's around lunchtime now so we should probably meet with the squad thing. Will you be good til we can go through the cafeteria?" Sero asked. Midoriya nodded with a chuckle.
And so the two set to the cafeteria, where they bakusquad had already been waiting and already been through line. Denki had already been nice enough to get something for Sero and Bakugo glared at Midoriya while firmly setting down what he had gotten for him.
"Thank you-"
"Shut the fuck up." Bakugoy interrupted before going back to sit with Kirishima.
"Hey, Mido-bro. You good? You look a little green." Denki said a little worried.
"I'm good thank you." Midoriya smiled and turned to the container of deli mac'n'cheese and the small pack of crackers with a box of apple juice that Bakugou had bought for him. Again he looked at Bakugou to say thank you before seeing the continued glare saying 'shut the fuck up', therefore instead he did a nod of gratitude before digging in.
The group had been split nicely across three tables next to a wall, each table having two seats. Each had melted into either comfortable silence or silly conversation.
"So. Midoriya." Sero started after several minutes of quiet.
"Hmm?" Midoriyya replied with a deep sigh that was cut off. Did Sero piss him off? Sero sucked in a quiet breath.
"If you're not busy next Saturday. Do you maybe want to hang out again?" He said rubbing the back of his neck and taking a peak of Midoriya somehow he looked worse. he looked at Sero almost shocked and opened his mouth to respond. Sero sat there hoping that he would say yes, unconsciously holding his breath. Midoriya closed his mouth and took off running, making Sero's chest hurt. The others looked in the direction he ran then at Sero.
"Damn did you ask him on a date?" Denki joked. Even though he knew it was a joke it made Sero's face heat up and his chest tighten while he his heart fluttering.
"Maybe I did." He whispered after considering the events of the day and his emotional status through it all. Ever since the whole bridal carry during the exam has made Sero want to be closer to Midoriya. He thought it was just in a friendly way but now he's not so sure. Did it sound like he was interested when he was asking to hang out again next Saturday. He knew that Midoriya was focused on his studies and didn't really talk about the whole romance thing but he didn't think that Midoriya would just run out at the idea. Sero frowned and rubbed the back of his neck with one hand and covering his mouth with the other, leaning over the table.
"Were you a dick about it?" Bakugou asked.
"No-" Sero replied.
"Then quit being a whiner. Something's up with him. Go find out what the fuck." Bakugou said and nodded his head in the direction of Midoriya. Sero's eyes widened and he rose an eyebrow. "Hello? Go check on Deku dumbass."
Sero nodded and began in the direction Midoriya went.
"I thought I was dumbass." He heard Denki say, semi-offended, while running.
After jogging for a little while and not seeing him Sero came upon a trashcan, and Midoriya hung off of it, breathing unevenly while hitching every couple of breaths. His knuckles turned white from gripping it so hard.
"Midoriya are you okay?" Sero asked and Midoriya flinched at the sound of his voice. Slowly he saw Midoriya putting up one of his thumbs. Sero slightly chuckled before sitting criss-cross beside Midoriya. After a moment Midoriya lurched and put his face over the hole in the can while letting it spew. Sero cringed at the noise and decided to rub Midoriya's back when he came back down shaking.
"Thank you." He whispered, his lip trembling and voice rough from the stomach acid. Sero just smiled and continued rubbing his back.
"Anytime." He replied.
"Fuck I hate being sick." Midoriya sighed.
"Hey, at least you made it to the trash?" Sero joked, taking a break from rubbing. Midoriya smiled and giggled. "Are you done? The bathroom is nearby should I get some paper towels to help you clean up?"
"Yeah, I'm good. It's okay I can clean myself up." He replied standing up, Sero standing up with him. Midoriya swayed a little and leaned against the wall. Sero put a hand on his shoulder.
"How about instead of giving you the possibility of getting a concussion you let me help?" Sero helped him sit down and slow sprinted to the bathroom to get a wet paper towel for him before Midoriya could interject. Quickly he sped back and handed Midoriya the paper towel. He wiped the spit off his face and wiped off his teeth before throwing it away.
"Thank you." Midoriya said leaning his head back against the wall and closing his eyes tight and taking a deep breath.
"Anytime." Sero shook his head and brought a hand up to Midoriya's forehead, silently hissing at the heat before melting when Midoriya lightly followed Sero's hand. "Your head is pretty warm. We should probably get you back to the dorm."
"Your hand feels nice," Midoriya mumbled before nodding and trying to stand up again, using the wall as a guide. "You don't have to leave yet. I can make it back to the dorm on my own."
Sero rose an eyebrow while Midoriya pushed away from the wall dizzily.
"I couldn't leave let you do that to get yourself hurt," Sero said stepping forward slightly to help him in case he was going to fall.
"And I couldn't pull you from your friends," Midoriya argued.
"Midoriya you are my friend," Sero replied quickly, Midoriya looked at him in shock and a soft smile. "Will you let me take you home now?"
"Thank you." Midoriya nodded. The two then began their way back to the dorms, Sero sending a quick message to the squad somewhere along the way.
Soon enough the two had made it back to the dorms and Sero decided to stay in his. Though he knows Midoriya wouldn't lie but, it was hard to believe that all the All Might merch would be gone and he did not want to be stared at by said hero merch.
For the rest of the day and well into the evening the two chilled in Sero's room, talking, watching movies, and eating small snacks so that Midoriya could get food in him. They were in the middle of the movie when Midoriya spoke up.
"Do you remember what you were talking about during lunch?" He asked sleepily.
"The hanging out thing from before you ran off?" Sero asked, Midoriya turning red.
"Yeah."
"What about it?"
"Would you still be up for that?"
Sero's face also turned red with a soft smile on his face.
"Yeah. As long as you don't plan on catching a stomach bug."
Midoriya rolled his eyes in response while sighing and a few beats of silence went by.
"I appreciate you asking me to hang out and it was amazing hanging out with you but I was wondering. Why'd you ask?"
Sero paused and decided to keep it to himself.
"I don't know. Just felt like it."
Midoriya smiled and breathed deeply while humming a response.
"I've been waiting a long time. Thank you." He mumbled before falling asleep. Sero's eyes widened and buried himself deep into what it could mean and what path each meaning could lead to before falling asleep his arm hugging Midoriya close.
Saturday. Beloved by all. A day to make friends or maybe more when you make the right plans with the right people at probably not the right time. Even so, it might turn out just right.
