Summary
Jason spent the rest of the day in the field. It was painful, but who else was going to do it? No one he knew would be willing, and most certainly not his brothers. Justin had called last week, and Josh had been with them at the hospital when their Ma was sick, but they hadn’t talked that much. They never did. They’d sat in silence, staring blankly at the white walls with stoic expressions on their faces.
Fuck that, Jason thought. He didn’t need them anyway.
If he were anything like the man he’d been six months ago, he’d be fine. He’d get by.
Once he finished his work, once the sun had set and darkness stole over the empty field, that same uneasy feeling would take hold of him. Sometimes, he’d walk out into the darkness, hold his breath, listen to the night sounds, and try to stand there in the mud and the cold as long as he could. As long as he could until his breath couldn’t be held anymore. The urge to run would hit him, and he’d wind up sprinting towards the house, images of flying beasts terrorizing him as he reached for a weapon he no longer had. As he called out to the counterpart, who was no longer by his side.

i love stories like this , that are just meant to explore a character and how they interact with the world. its fun and painful to be able to see myself , and while i dont relste to this story , i know this work is definitely a comfort to others
