Chapter Text
“Enid, I cannot wear your snood because it is simply grotesque and can only be stomached on special occasions.”
Enid would be lying if she said she was doing okay, this past week had been terrible. It all started when she practically begged Wednesday to wear their matching snoods to town for Nevermore’s outreach day. Wednesday had gotten this weird look on her face before shutting Enid down, she could've at least had the nerve to let her down slowly.
Instead Enid turned on her heel, tears threatening to fall out the brim of her eyes, and the discomfort of white hot embarrassment pooling in her chest.
“Fine, I’ll just go ahead and head out with Yoko, don't wait up.”
Enid shook her head, it's been a week since then so why does the thought of it still bring bile to her throat? It might have something to do with the fact that she has been avoiding her roommate like the plague. Enid didn't really mean to, she started off feeling heartbroken, then angry, then heartbroken again. It was a vicious cycle really.
So when Wednesday would head towards the group table at lunch she would conveniently remember she had an assignment she needed to study for, or when they would lock eyes in the hallway Enid quickened her pace in the opposite direction. And if Enid just so happened to come home later when Wednesday would be fast asleep it was just pure coincidence…
“Enid, I can practically feel your dark cloud from across the table, it's kind of bumming me out.” Yoko sighed, giving the blonde an exasperated look.
“Sorry Yoko! Just lost in thought.”
The vampire hummed, pitying the girl, and decidedly taking a sip from her straw. Thank god for Yoko, Enid couldn't handle being asked about Wednesday now.
Unfortunately Bianca took no such pity for the girl.
“Can the both of you just kiss and make up? I'm getting tired of kicked puppy Enid and slightly stabbier Wednesday,” Bianca jabbed at her salad, mumbling “I didn't even think that was possible for her.”
Enid opened her mouth to object when a hand suddenly appeared on her shoulder, she would know that black nail polish anywhere. Her body stiffened, the response dying in her throat, heart trying to beat itself out of her chest.
“Enid, we need to talk.”
“Wednesday! That's so funny that you’re here, I was just about to leave for the library so I can work on a project!” Enid stuttered out her response, grimacing at herself.
The raven haired girl sighed, turning Enid around by her shoulders to face her, “Enid. This is your 10th project this week and we have the same classes.”
“Extra Credit?”
“Your feeble attempts at deception lead me to believe you’ve been avoiding me.”
Bianca and Yoko exchange a look, “Are you both really going to do this right in front of my salad? It's making me lose my appetite.”
Wednesday was quick to respond, not breaking her gaze at Enid, “The siren’s right, her presence is making me nauseous.”
And with that Wednesday spun on her heel, keeping her grip on Enid and practically dragging the girl towards the dorms as the siren flipped her off.
Yoko and Bianca gazed at the pair as they walked off, Enid throwing Yoko a pleading gaze as they left.
…
“Fucking finally.”
Enid was freaking out as they entered their shared dorm, Wednesday shutting the door behind her.
“I wouldn’t say I’ve been avoid-”
“Enid.” Wednesday looked at the blonde, her frown deepening slightly. “We’ve already established your skills at deception, so why do you still bother?”
The colorful roommate deflated, shoulders slumping as she went and sat down on her bed.
“I’m hurt, okay?”
Enid looked up when no response came to find Wednesday looking…. puzzled?
“You seem to be in good physical health.”
“Do you honestly not remember?” Enid laughed in disbelief as Wednesday stared back with confusion swirling in eyes. “Come on Addams, don’t tell me you can solve the case of the murders yet fumble when it comes to this.” When her only response was heavy silence Enid sighed, wrapping up in her covers and turning her back to her roommate.
“We can talk when you figure out why I’ve been upset with you.”
Wednesday was… perplexed. Had someone upset Enid? No… no one would dare, they all knew Wednesday was quick to retaliation when it came to the werewolf. And if that was the case, why was Enid avoiding her? Wednesday’s frown deepened further, threatening to cross the line from frowning to just plain scowling.
Not to mention Enid specifically said Wednesday was the source of her unhappiness. Wednesday usually prided herself of being a source of unhappiness for many… usually. Enid’s unhappiness brought no joy or satisfaction, just an unpleasant feeling of spiders spinning webs across her throat. So what is it Wednesday could have done? She put her investigation board away for Enid’s sake and limited her cello playing hours to when Enid was gone or already awake. She even put meticulous care into preserving the garment Enid had given her, so childishly labeled as a ‘snood’ after the girl remade it to replace her destroyed one.
Wait…
Wednesday kicked herself internally, how could she have overlooked this? Sighing, Wednesday sat down on the dread inducing colorful sheets of Enid’s bed.
“Enid, look at me.”
Wednesday hesitantly placed a hand on Enid’s side, which seemed to do the trick as watery blue eyes turned to look at her. “As you’re well aware, I’m not the best at… feeling… things. Much less expressing it.” Wednesday grit her teeth, how is it possible that this is harder than the entire debacle last semester? “While I do enjoy the pain and suffering of others, yours does not bring me joy. I’m… sorry, that I have hurt you.”
Enid sniffled, sitting up on the bed, still cocooned in her rainbow vomit equivalent of a blanket, fresh tears streaming down her flushed cheeks. “But you hate your snood!”
Wednesday felt an ache in her chest at the sight of her roommate so upset, there had to be something she could say to make her feel better. “Enid, the garment you have gifted me is one of my most valued possessions, right next to my first guillotine set.”
“Then why won’t you wear it?” Enid looked up at the ravenette, bottom lip trembling in a pout. “You called it grotesque...”
Wednesday gazed at the sniffling blonde, eyes softening ever so slightly, “Cara mia, you out of anyone in this hell of a school should know I am fond of all things out of the ordinary.”
“Well yeah, but how does that even-”
Wednesday puts a finger on the other girl's lips causing Enid’s already flushed face to deepen in shade. “Enid. Let me finish, you know I hate being interrupted.” The blonde squeaked out a quick ‘sorry’, gulping as Wednesday retracted the finger from her lips.
“Labeling your ‘snood’ as grotesque is my own way of showing… fondness. It’s unique, and I appreciated the restraint on the color palette used.” Wednesday placed a finger under the lycans’ chin, gently guiding her head up until sky blue met obsidian black, “For me it's a reminder of how ravenous you were on the battlefield that night. It was… breathtaking.”
Enid stilled, air caught in her throat as she noticed just how close the two had become. Wednesday gazed at the blonde, blue eyes meeting hers as the other girl bit her lower lip, Wednesday was hyperfixed on the movement as the blonde gravitated closer. Enid’s eyes fluttered closed as Wednesday tilted her head closer, meeting her in the middle as their breaths intermingled.
Wednesday wasn't an expert when it comes to a kiss, all her knowledge is based off of the one kiss she had shared with Tyler last semester. But this? This was something entirely different. Enid’s lips were soft and tasted of strawberry lip gloss, and if she were to admit it, also made her feel a little weak in the knees.
Wednesday put a gentle hand on the other girl’s cheek as they regretfully pulled away, eyes locking with labored breaths. Enid’s hair was disheveled, makeup smeared from her tears, and cheeks colored a rosy pink. Wednesday thought she was beautiful.
“Are you still mad at me?”
Enid laughed, eyes shining a bright blue as she smiled, “No, I think you’ve made up for it now.”
Wednesday nodded, “Good, does this mean you won’t avoid me anymore? Thing missed you terribly.”
Enid gave a knowing smile, “I’m sure he did. No more avoiding or ‘school projects’, but I have one more question.”
Wednesday drew her brows together quizzically, “What is it?”
“What does cara mia mean?”
