Summary:

The infinite hell between life and death.

Work Text:

Your smile, like the light
shines unbidden on the shadows I cast, until
it engulfs, swallows, devours
all that you are, all that I am, everything.

With dandelion dreams, draining
until you've forgotten
with flowers clasped between hands so sweet, a fool's farcical flurry
of magic and monsters, only an ashen corpse
collapsed below cracked splendor, beckoning from the deep.

Your lies, like the warmth
I so desperately crave, to bandage
the wounds I inflicted on myself,
a cracked vessel filling,
to be the pearl, to be
wanted by someone, to be
needed
at
all.

Your shine, like the sun
pressing whispered words
beneath walls of ashen dark, hands pressed
in a prayer, for the flesh left behind.

A crimson stain and a cry;
solid and unyielding, scratches and scars
where life had once taken a cup to its mouth
and taken a drink from its bitter grail.

Love is only love when it is given,
with loneliness lingering behind loathsome lies
and if you were drowning, once
in rivers too deep and oceans too vast, you wished
to love, to be loved and to forget.

But for myself, to gaze upon the sun
and bathe in its happiness, like
a boiled frog, swimming in the spring
it washes over me, consuming
my hurt, my pain, my heart.
