Chapter Text
While Ei hadn't thought that this would be how she'd be spending her New Year's Eve, she welcomed it. The club was nice, her friends were around her, Miko by her side, the music was not too loud playing, and of course the feeling of being out and partying. It was exhilarating, she didn't go to clubs that often, opting to stay back when her fiancée went out with Shinobu and some others that Ei didn't know too well.
But she didn't mind being more introverted, it made when she did go out (because she wanted to) all that more exciting. Tonight she was having fun, even if she wasn't in the middle of everything. A room in a fairly nice club had been rented out, and the couches happened to be very comfortable. She didn't know too many of the people, it was the Kamisato's party, but she could still appreciate it.
Across from her, Ayaka, who she knew a little bit, mostly because of Ayato, was deep in conversation with a lively blonde girl. It amused her to watch them talk, the siblings were quite similar with shared features and mannerisms. Their personality was wildly different though, it reminded Ei of how she and Makoto had been, her twin had always been the more outgoing and extroverted one out of the two of them. About the opposite of herself really, like two sides of a coin.
So caught up in her thoughts, she didn't notice a familiar person approaching her until she was tapped on her shoulder. Twisting her head she smiled as she saw Miko, her fiancée slipped onto her lap, precariously holding two flutes of champagne in her hands. Not wanting to spill anything, Ei quickly took one of the glasses out of her hands.
After slinging one of her arms around Ei's neck, Miko giggled, looking up at her, a faint blush shone in the dim lighting. She could feel the band of a ring digging into her skin, they'd only been engaged for a week, and it was still so surreal for Ei. Shifting in her lap Miko smiled at her, languidly sipping on her drink while Ei ran her fingers over the hem of her fiancée's dress.
It was the cocktail dress that she'd bought with Shinobu earlier in the month. If Ei hadn't known her, she would've been confused about how Miko wasn't freezing. It was short, tight, low-cut, and showed off her long legs, the color suit her well, a pale rosy color, with darker, sparkling accents. While she may be a little biased, Ei thought that Miko was the prettiest at the party.
"Ei," The pink-haired lady's head lolled to the side, grinning. "I missed you... I'm not surprised to find you here though."
She tilted her head at that, eyes narrowing, "What's that supposed to mean?"
"You always," Miko waved her hand around, and Ei was thankful that the flute was mostly empty. "Sit on the sides, I never find you dancing or anything fun. You just, drink and watch or talk."
All of what her fiancée was saying was true, "Is there a problem with what I do?"
"No... But," Squirming a bit, Miko sighed. "I think that you should dance, not just, sway to the music."
Ei hummed, "I don't think that it should."
"Why not?" Miko slurred, tightening her arm that was wrapped around Ei. "I think that it's a great idea, one of the best ones I've ever had!"
"I'm sure it is. But I do have to ask, are you drunk?" She laughed, sober Miko did not slur or think that making her dance was her best idea. "How many glasses have you had?"
The glare she got was amusing, "Tipsy, darling, is what I am. Just a glass of white wine, it was fancy, we don't get that stuff. And champagne, but I think that ours is better, back at home."
"Of course you are," Ei agreed, taking a sip to hide her smile. Their bottles back at home were better, probably because they spent far too much on them. "This is still pretty good, right? It's sweet."
Miko pouted, "It is sweet, that's the problem. It's not supposed to be sweet. I like the citrusy ones."
"It's a different type, it's not supposed to be citrusy. Other types exist, though I think that sometimes you forget about that." Ei reminded her, she didn't mind that it was sweet. She did like sweet things, though it was different than their usual and she definitely preferred what they normally had.
Her fiancée made a face, "But I like the other one better. It should be the only type that they make."
"If they did that they'd lose business, you're not their only client." Ei pointed out, her free hand reaching to brush a few fallen strands of hair back behind Miko's ears. "It's like if our publishing house only published one type of book."
Placing a finger to Miko's opening mouth, no doubt ready to complain, she shushed the pink-haired lady. "Come on Miko, let's go to the balcony, I want to the stars before the first."
"What time is it?" She mumbled, sliding off of her lap. Ei didn't know the answer to the question, but she didn't have to let Miko know that, part of the fun partying with Miko.
"Are you really that out of it?" Ei teased, tugging Miko's elbow, her eyes darted around the room for a clock. She was a bit shocked at the time it read. "Come on, hurry, we only got a couple of minutes."
Weaving through the people was loud, but Ei could still hear her fiancée's protest, "I'm not that out of it..."
By the time they ended up outside the counter was going off. The club had a nice view, their room high enough up so that if Ei squinted the streets below them blurred into lights. It was pretty, maybe they would have to go out more, their own apartment didn't have much of a view. And well, their balcony was small and if people looked out their window they would be able to see them, which was a little odd to think about.
"Hey," Ei whispered, pressing Miko against her with a smile, eyes glowing in the flickering light. "I love you."
Miko giggled, "I love you too, even if you're silly sometimes."
She could hear the 'three, two, one!' begin to go off in the background, Ei took a sip of her drink before she placed it on a side table, using her hand to tilt Miko's head up, her fiancée's eyes fluttering, lashes long. "Midnight kiss?"
As the people around them cheered, she kissed her future wife, they'd hopefully be married this year. Miko sighed, reaching up to tug on a few strands of Ei's hair, while she adjusted her hold on Miko's wait. They'd shared midnight kisses for a very long time, even before they were together, but Ei thought that this one may just be her favorite. Ei was excited to spend the new year with Miko, the love of her life.
