Work Text:
Ryunosuke wakes up from a nightmare. It is an old nightmare, a familiar nightmare, but that does not stop his mind from racing with the idea that it was not just a dream.
He needs to check.
Kazuma’s hands are cold when he takes them. So Ryunosuke moves on to his wrist, feeling for a pulse.
There’s nothing there, but that doesn’t mean anything. It’s not easy to tell, especially with no training, and people have gotten this wrong before. He moves his hand further, to Kazuma’s chest, to where his heart should be beating.
“Ryunosuke,” comes a tired grumble, “what are you doing?”
Thump, thump.
Kazuma’s eyes flutter open.
“Just checking,” Ryunosuke tells him, “go back to sleep.”
“You go to sleep too,” comes the response.
“I will now, don’t worry.”
“Mm.”
Ryunosuke lets himself lie back, listens as Kazuma’s breath becomes slower and slower, as his movements become imperceptible.
Thump, thump.
His heart still beats, he will have to trust Kazuma’s to do the same.
