"Have you tried?" He asked, half curious and half overwhelmed by the thought of Inej running her hands over herself in an attempt to make herself feel good. He swatted the thought away – she really needed him to focus on her and not on himself right now.
"Yes," she admitted. "I just... start overthinking. And sometimes it feels like I'll get there, and then I lose focus."
She shifted awkwardly under her blanket, closing her eyes. Then she turned her head away from him and he thought perhaps this was all, that she’d clam up now and distance herself. Instead, she drew a deep breath and faced him again, bravely looking him in the eye though he could see her hand shaking when she adjusted her blanket.
"I think of you... When I try."
The confession was quiet, but it felt like she had shouted it directly into his face. Suddenly, parts of him he usually ignored were awake, and the hair rose on his arms as he detected the silent challenge: do you think of me too?
