Work Text:
He really shouldn't have come to work today. Yeah, nothing was physically wrong with him, but Osamu wasn't here. He was on some stupid mission with Nakajima and Izumi in fucking Tokyo. On days like this, he wished he could melt into the floor and just be done with it. But he wasn't. He was sitting at his desk, his head lying down on it as he fiddled with a pen.
Kunikida was yelling at him for an unknown reason, (a lie, it was because Ranpo hadn't completed a single task today and it was 11 a.m. already.) But how was he supposed to work? Kenji was talking Yosano's ear off, and he could hear it from the other room, Kunikida's stupid fucking fan was grating against his ears, and Naomi kept going on about some makeup product she'd become obsessed with, which she wouldn't normally bother him about it, but again, Dazai and the girl's brother weren't here.
He was overwhelmed.
He wished he could do what he usually did: simply ask Osamu to sit with him and play with his hair while he worked with his noise-canceling headphones. But he couldn't do that. Because he'd forgotten his headphones in Dazai's car and Dazai wasn't there. And Kunikida still will not shut up.
"Fuck off, Kunikida!" Ranpo finally managed to get out, which was quickly followed by him starting to hyperventilate. Which was, obviously, not a good thing. Kunikida made the stupid move to put his hand on Ranpo's shoulder, but the well-meaning hand was quickly slapped away. Kunikida was worried because his tone changed, and he had a look of pity on his stupid features. Not like Ranpo was paying attention though, he was too focused on attempting to even out his breathing, which was an idiot idea, because there are only two people who know how to help him with that, and they were both not here.
Kunikida clearly started to panic, he picked up Ranpo's phone and asked a simple question, "Do I call Dazai or Chuuya?"
Ranpo knew who to call. Dazai was on a mission so they probably wouldn't pick up, plus, they wouldn't be much help over the phone. The answer was clear. Ranpo snatched the phone away from the blonde man, clicking on Chuuya's phone number, but immediately panicked when he did so because he was almost entirely non-verbal right now, he handed the phone to Kunikida in panic. He was so stressed he barely even noticed that tears were streaming down his face, probably making him look even more pitiful.
Kunikida took the phone, listening to the ringtone for a total of five seconds before he picked up. "What's up Ranpo?" The voice on the other line came through. "It's Kunikida, Edogawa is freaking out for some reason, is there any way you can stop by?" he asked the redhead. Chuuya's voice quickly turned serious, "Give me five minutes and I'll be there, can he talk right now?" he asked Kunikida, Ranpo shook his head rapidly. "No, he cannot," he told him, Chuuya sighed. "Give him the phone, Kunikida." the blonde man did as he was told.
Ranpo took the phone with shaky hands. "Hey, love, I promise you're doing well, and Osamu's coming home tonight, so everything will be okay, and I've just pulled into the parking lot, I'm going to hang up, but I'll be there so soon okay love?" Chuuya smiled as he spoke to Ranpo, who was still shaking and crying, trying his best to stay somewhat put together (spoiler alert: it wasn't working.)
Soon enough, Chuuya busted into the office door, probably breaking at least one of the hinges, he calmly walked over to his overstimulated lover. Kunikida felt it was appropriate to leave the room. When Chuuya was in arms reach to Ranpo, he was pulled into a tight hug, as Ranpo can't stand light touches. The slightly taller man nuzzled his head into the other's shoulder. The smaller man wrapped his arms around him. They stood there for a good ten minutes, Ranpo crying into his shoulder until he pulled away.
Once he did, Chuuya rested his hands on either side of his jaw, looking up at him, he spoke, "Better, love? he asked him, Ranpo nodded weakly. Chuuya smiled, "Can you use your voice again?" Ranpo shrugged. Then attempted to speak, "Yeah, I-I can," he said, voice raspy from not using it. Ranpo was very happy Chuuya was there, but he still was longing for Dazai, and he knew Chuuya was too.
"I'm going to take you home, okay? Dazai will be here shortly" Chuuya said, as if he could read Ranpo's thoughts.

It felt good to be home, Ranpo thought. Everything was calm. All the curtains were closed, the lights were dimmed, and the air conditioning was on instead of a noisy fan, all things his partners knew he liked. Ranpo quickly got comfortable on the large sofa in the living room. Chuuya sat next to him without any words said.
Soon enough, the two were asleep, Chuuya with his head in Ranpo's lap. Osamu arrived a few hours later, around 3 pm. They quietly observed their lovers, trying their best not to make a noise as they made their way over to the sofa, sitting on the opposite side of Chuuya, lying their tired head on his shoulder. They didn't notice the fact that Ranpo was only half asleep until he moved his arm around Osamu and kissed their forehead and whispered something, "I missed you" he softly spoke, and Osamu's heart could've melted on the spot.
