Work Text:
Reki felt the cold hair brush against his skin, the night sky sparkling above. The smell of the ocean flooded his nose and the sound of rustling leaves was comforting yet unfamiliar. He looked around and found himself at the usual skatepark he and Langa usually practice at. Speaking of Langa, he looks down to see Langa in a white suit with a bright red tie that looks awfully similar to the shade of his own hair. He looked down at himself and noted he wore a matching suit except his tie was a deep blue. He looked back at Langa, bent down on one knee and holding a box open with a matching pair of silver band rings, one blue, and one red. Reki watched in fascination. Langa eyes full of love looked at Reki, ice blue eyes burning as bright as flames, “Reki, my love, will you skate with me for infinity?”
“Ye-”
*CRASH*
Reki awoke with a groan as he rubbed the bruise starting to form on his arm. He looked around and found the same posters he looks at every day. He looked down and found himself in his pajamas tangled in a pool of his blanket. It was a dream. Holy shit I just dreamed Langa proposed to me-
“Kids, breakfast is ready!” His mom’s voice interrupted his train of thought and the sound of little children running and screaming roped him back to reality. Shoving the dream for later he got up and started getting ready for school. How am I going to look him in the eyes-
“REKI! BREAKFAST!”
Problem for future Reki.
—————
All morning Reki couldn’t focus on anything. Every time he looked at Langa he saw him in that white suit again, when he wasn’t looking at Langa he was thinking about the dream again. No matter what he did his thoughts were entirely consumed by Langa.
Crushes were so annoying.
It’s not like he hadn’t had his thoughts plagued by Langa before. The first time he actually realized he had a crush on Langa he went into complete crisis mode before settling in quiet acceptance that it would never happen. For one thing, he couldn’t even be sure Langa even liked guys much less Reki.
After some time he simply accepted that it wouldn’t happen and settled for being able to be his best friend, with every confession Langa got, Reiki felt like he was stabbed with an arrow. Although Langa had never shown any interest in anyone, every time he was pulled away for a confession Reki couldn’t help but spiral that this one time Langa will accept. He would accept and leave Reki behind.
—————
Reki sat beside a laying Langa. They had just finished another skating session and decided to take a break. He peeked down at Langa, eyes closed basking in the afternoon sun. Seriously, how was it fair that he could be talented and beautiful? He truly lived up to the title of “Snow Prince”.
“Reki?”
“Yes?”
“What does it mean to love?” Langa flinched as Reki suddenly spit out a mouthful of water, some splashing on him. Immediately Langa got up and started clapping Reki’s back to try and stop him from dying.
“Where’s *cough* this coming from?” Reki asked red-faced. Immediately his brain went into overdrive trying to piece absolutely anything he could that would have possibly driven Langa to this train of thought. It’s not like he hangs out with anyone but me, or, no, Langa you traitor did you get a secret girlfriend!? As he started to spiral he noticed Langa patiently waiting for him to continue. Better play it safe for now. “You have someone you’re interested in?”
“Yeah.”
Ouch. Well, it was inevitable that this day would come. Reki started to mourn his friendship as he imagined Langa being whisked away from him, somewhere far away much happier. But before he could keep thinking he felt a thump on his arm. Reki looked down at Langa and met his ice-blue eyes that seemed to pierce right through him. He was still waiting for an answer.
“Uhm, I guess love means that you like spending time with them? That they make you happy whenever you see them or with them, and I guess you would want to be with them for as long as you could,” Reki’s eyes strayed towards the clouds above too embarrassed to look Langa in the eye. Holy hell what was that? ‘Always be with them?’ That’s so cheesy! What he missed was the twinkling light of understanding on Langa’s face.
“I see.”
“So, who’s the lucky girl?” Reki asked. He doesn’t know why he asked, it’s like pushing himself quicker to heartbreak. But at the same time, the thought of someone who could catch Langa’s attention over his sea of admirers warrants some curiosity.
“Mhm? Oh, it’s not a girl it’s a guy.” Langa simply stated.
What “What.”
———————-
Reki stared at his ceiling. He was still processing the bombshell Langa just dropped on him. He couldn’t even get anything else out of him since the second he said that his mom called and Langa quickly left. It’s a guy. I’m a guy. It could be-
“Nope, nope, nope, this is not happening,” Reki quickly started. “You’ve already accepted this isn’t happening don’t get your hopes-”
“Reki, my love, will you skate with me for infinity?”
“Goddamnit,” Reki sighed. He grabbed a pillow and screamed into it before finally grounding himself again. He grabbed his phone and called the first person who would listen to him about this.
“What do you want slime?” a young voice asked.
“Hey Miya, remember the blue problem?” Reki asked. It was a little embarrassing to talk to a middle schooler about his love problems but then again he was the one who first confronted Reki about it.
“Why are you calling me about that again? What did he confess to again? I told you already he likes you-”
“No he doesn’t Miya,” Reki interrupted.
“Reki-”
“Look I’m calling cause he said he has someone he likes, and it’s a guy-”
“You idiot he’s talking about you!” Miya yelled, “take a hint, he doesn’t get anywhere near anyone as he does you, who else could he possibly be talking about,” Miya reasoned. He’s been trying to convince Reki about this for weeks at this point. Originally he was going to have some fun but watching the two live birds dance around each other was getting on his nerves. (And he would never admit he liked the idea of his two friends finally getting together)
Reki started, “Miya he wouldn’t even consider me a-”
Langa: Can you meet me at the skatepark tonight?
“What happened?” Miya asked.
“Nothing, it’s fine, I'll deal with it later,” Reki quickly answered.
“Yeah whatever slime, just think about it ok?” Miya sighed.
“Sure,” and he hung up. He just stared at the text message like it would give him all the answers if he looked at it hard enough.
Reki: sure

As Reki swerved into the park he spotted Langa at their usual spot near a tree. He quickly ran over, it wasn’t too strange for them to hang out at night. Sometimes they would just come to talk or look at the stars, but something about this felt different.
“Reki,” Langa said, waving him over. He was still dressed in the same clothes wore at school but now he lay on a picnic blanket.
“Hey, what’s up, did you want to talk about something?” Reki asked, settling himself beside Langa.
“Yeah, remember when you asked if I was interested in someone?” Langa started looking towards the ocean.
Holy shit Holy shit Holy shit. Reki felt his heartbeat quickly start to speed up. Is this it?
“Yeah?”
“Well, it’s you,” Langa simply stated. Turning to look Reki in the eyes he stated, “I’m in love with you Reki,” he finished with a smile, like he didn’t just blow up Reki’s whole world.
Reki was frozen in shock.
“Uhm if you don’t like me back-”
“NO!” Reki screamed, causing Langa to flinch back. Reki quickly jumped forward to keep Langa from getting up, “No sorry, I do, I really like you too,” Reki assured, pulling him into a hug.
“Really?” Langa asked, body tense.
“Yes, Langa, I dreamed that you proposed-” pulling back, Reki quickly slapped a hand over his mouth. “Forget I said that,” Reki quickly covered.
“Wait you dreamed I- mmph!”
“I said forget that!” Reki said, keeping a hand over Langa’s mouth. Langa nodded, pulled Reki’s hand off his mouth and brought his own hand over the back of Reki’s head pulling him so close their foreheads touched.
“Can I kiss you Reki?” Langa whispered. He could feel Reki’s breath against his own, eyes straying from his eyes to his lips.
“Yes, please, you have no idea how long I’ve waited for this,” Reki quickly answered, pulling Langa, closing the gap between them.
Maybe dreams do come true.
