or after Katsuki and Izuku's wedding he finally has his realization

Work Text:

They are at the after party, everyone is sitting around at various tables having laughs and fun while catching up with former classmates and then the toasts start to the newly weds, Bakugou Katsuki and Midoryia Izuku (or technically it's now just Bakugou because shouto forgets like he always does). He stands up with a big ole' smile on his face, like he didn't just spend 30 minutes in the bathroom earlier crying and hyping himself up, and taps his fork lightly on the glass wine cup (his fourth which is way more embarrassing to him then it actually is) trying not to break it while also clearing his throat to get everybody's attention. He was the first speech and he knew that and only that because he didn't listen to any other speeches that night.

"A toast to Mr. and Mrs. Bakugou!.." he started which earned a few giggles and laughs as everybody raised their glasses, but also a grin from Katsuki and a slight smile from Izuku, and god was he gorgeous. He would give everything he had to see it everyday and only have it aimed at him. His eyes lingered a bit longer before continuing.

"...From one of your best friends who has been there since day one and has no plans on leaving. To your future as heros and as husbands. May you always provide for each other and may you always be satisfied!"

At that moment everything seemed to slow down and come to a stop. For a second (just a millisecond) he stopped and tuned out the cheering and clapping, the touches from the pats on the back and the grips on both of his shoulders. For a second (just a millisecond) that smile that he had taken so long to build faltered. He wanted to feel real in that millisecond, he wanted to feel free to feel and see everything all at once. All the impending feelings of doom and hope being flushed down the toilet only leaving a buzz behind from the alcohol and the rest numbness. He wanted to go back to the beginning of this wedding, to the alter, to moment they were about to say their 'I do's', to the tiny flicker of movement to Shouto only holding the gaze for a few seconds saying everything and nothing all at once.

At that moment Shouto could see the desire to reject the man in front of him. He could see his one chance of a happy ending opening again for that short time period. He knew he could stop this whole thing with one 'I object', but he thought about regret and guilt and anger. All the things Midoriya Izuku could feel towards him afterward if he did this. So like always he let his inner thoughts get in the way of the best chance he could ever have and let that priest say "Then I pronounce you both husband and husband...". Just like that he closes his chance of a happy ever after and watches the slight change in facial expression on Izuku's face when he doesn't say anything to stop the ceremony and they never say anything again about the matter.

Time begins again. He can slowly and suddenly start hearing the clapping and cheering again and the pats on his back and both his shoulders. Then just like that he is straining a smile while slowly disappearing from the crowd only to go cry in a bathroom stall, drunk and pathetically in love with his married best friend.
