Chapter Text
The ground rumbled as the air was layered with a suffocating cloud of dust. Fire pranced its way, towering over the land. As the songs of warriors rang along with the chorus of terror, detection followed them like a lost crying child. From the ashes a white rabbit with silver blades in hand as shadows accompany behind him. The only thing the young samurai rabbit could do was to fight.
For his home.
His friends.
His family.
The once prosperous land has become bearen, a wasteland of its former self. Neo Edo, the grand city of the land, was now collapsing within itself. Off in the distance the young samurai rabbit does his best fighting off the enemies, but there were simply too many. He had to save everyone he had to win the battle. He was the chosen one. Given a Kaikishi weapon by the Ki-Stone, only a worthy warrior can wield. The sky colored twilight and The Moon was shadowed by the Earth, painting the land a red hue and the moonlight dancing in the chaos. The Ki-Stone sparked with energy protecting the temple she lives in. On the battlefield, the young samurai sees his group of friends being hurt.
He can’t lose them.
The young warrior jumped into action. Dashing into the fire, rubble and dust, danger awaits him. The violent air tried to stop him from reaching his goal, he just ignored it and persevered forward. His eyes met with theirs. joy soon turned into terror when he started seeing stars then met with the ground.
“USAGI!”
“Usagi”
“Usagi?”
“Usagi?!” A young voice cried out.
The young rabbit wakes up finding himself on the floor with 4 turtles looking down worrying at him.
“Conejo are you alright?” Señor Hueso said concerned.
“Huh? Yeah, I think I’m all right. Just have a massive headache…. Where am I?” The rabbit weakly mentioned while rubbing his head.
“Still in Run of the Mill Pizza,” Donnie answers.
“That was a big fall, are you sure you’re alright Usagi?” Raph said heavily concerned for the rabbit.
“Medic here!! MOVE OVER!” Leo says while pushing his brothers over.
The rabbit looks up to the voice. Leo looks down at the rabbit. Their eyes met with each other, the lights of the restaurant glowing up the room creating an aura around them. It is as if time stopped and it was just them, lost in each other's presence. Something about the other felt warm and welcoming. This was different from all the other times they’ve seen each other in the restaurant.
What… What does this mean?
Mikey, still on the floor, helps Leo and the rabbit. Leo, having medical knowledge, looks over the rabbit. Helping him get up and insisting for him to rest. He tells his younger brother Mikey to get some water and takes out a bottle of ibuprofen he stored in one of his pouches giving the items to the rabbit. The rabbit thanked them for their help.
Señor Hueso calls it an early night for Usagi. Still feeling light headed, Leo close by, helps him to get on his feet. Donnie uses his goggles, seeing if there isn’t any serious injury that has arisen from his fall.
“Hmm. I’m only picking up signs of mild concussion. The best course of action now is to rest for at least a week before he can go back to work” Donnie claimed.
“A whole week?! I- I can’t be out for a WHOLE week!” Usagi argued.
“Please Conejo your health should be your main priority.” Señor Hueso said with concern.
Usagi tried to oppose it. “Don’t worry Conejo, I’ll make sure everything is taken care of,” Señor Hueso reassured.
With a deep sigh Usagi gives in. Leo and his brothers agreed that it was best for Usagi to at least stay the night with them. Since they could supervise Usagi, and Donnie mentions there was a possibility for seizures or fever to happen after a concussion. They all made their way out the restaurant, Leo using his katana to make a portal back to their home.
“You have a mystic weapon too?” Usagi awed.
“Yup me and my bros all have our own!” Leo replayed.
Entering the portal to the turtle’s home, they each go to get the place more welcoming for their new visiter. Usagi sees a small rat come to him and Leo. The small rat is wearing a Japanese kimono with a symbol in front of it.
“Leonardo who’s this?” Splinter questioned.
“I’m Yuichi Usagi,” Usagi responded, bowing down. But immediately regretting it as he got woozy.
Splinter bowed down as well, replying, “Pleasure you meet you Usagi. I’m Hamato Yoshi, the father of Leo and his brothers.”
Leo making sure that Usagi doesn’t right out pass out again. He knows he’ll get an ear full from Señor Hueso.
“Hey, hey careful,” Leo worryingly said. “Usagi here is going to stay with us for the night recovering from a fall,” Leo added.
“I see. I’ll make some herbal tea. Please make yourself at home, Usagi.” Splinter said welcomely.
“Thank you Hamato-san,” Usagi replied.
“You may call me Splinter”
“Thank you Splinter-san”
Splinter only chuckled in response, making his way to the kitchen where Mikey was at.
“You always do that when you meet new people?” Leo questioned.
“Do what?” Usagi, puzzled at Leo’s question.
“You know bowing down, using ‘san’, like super formal with everything” Leo remarked.
“Oh, my Auntie always told me it's a sign of respect, especially to your elders. Hasn’t your father taught you that?” Usagi curiously askes.
“Pussh nah. Pops doesn’t do that kind of stuff that often and we all grew up in the sewers anyways,” Leo responded.
Come to realize it they were under NYC in an abandoned train station, now decorated into a lively home. Leo leads Usagi to his room and welcomes him to his bed.
“You can have my bed for the night. I'm not taking no for an answer.” Leo protested.
Usagi chuckled “Why thank you! Very kind of you, Leo-san”.
“Please, I’m honored but you can just call me Leo, just Leo.”
“Ok then. Then you can only call me Yuichi, just Yuichi.” Yuichi objected.
“Deal” Leo agreed, shaking on it.
Leo told his brothers Yuichi would rest in his room since it was closer to the Med Bay. Mikey came in with some herbal tea and some of his homemade dark chocolate chip cookies. Donnie takes one last look over at Yuichi to see if nothing has changed. Giving him the green light and prescribing some more medication to ease any headaches. Raph came in with some extra blankets and pillows so Leo can rest on the floor comfortably. Leo gave Yuichi some of his spare clothing for him to sleep with.
Leo asked if Yuichi was feeling alright. Yuichi confirmed that the medication is helping out with his headaches. Mentioning that the main reason for his fall was because he wasn’t getting enough rest most nights, working the night shifts at Señor Hueso’s restaurant and juggling other odd jobs here and there.
They then started to chat for a bit, soon becoming a full blown conversation. Leo showed him the world that is memes. Both bursting into laughter and doing Try Not to Laugh challenges and obviously failing every single one. Then talked about Leo growing up in the sewers, how they were made by a great warrior scientist named Baron Draxum using their father’s DNA. Who has now become a parental figure to them because of Mikey. Yuichi talked about his time working for Señor Hueso and his few encounters with some Karens. And obviously showing Leo the video evidence that was posted on social media by his coworkers. It then leads to Yuichi mentioning he also has two katanas just like Leo, then it spirals to finding the many things they have in common.
“One of them, Edgewing, belonged to my Auntie. She gave it to me when I chose to become a samurai just like my ancestor, Miyamoto Usagi! The other one, Willow Branch, actually belonged to him!” Yuichi bubbled.
“Oh wow really?! That’s so cool!” Leo marveled.
“Yeah it was! I was looking for it in a haunted valley and I had to choose the right one or else you know,” Yuichi says as he slides his hand across his neck.
“Ooo yikes” Leo hissed.
“Yeah but I’m still here! So you know that didn't happen. The reason I needed it was because it was the only thing that can make contact with the Ki-Stone! So I could cut The Clavis out of the Ki-Stone.”
“Wait, wait, hold on. I’m going to need all the deets on THAT whole situation!” Leo responded.
Yuichi chuckles, “Ok so. The reason why that happens is because I accidentally released all the yokai that were trapped in this thing called the Ki-Stone. It’s a crystal that connects to the Earth’s magnetic field and gives out lots of energy. I thought it was going to be a lot fancier. And more yellow. With lines around it, like rays shooting out from it. But anyways, one of the yokai was named Kagehito. He had this mask that possessed him to find the Clavis, so an interdimensional portal could open for the Makkine. The Makkine are an alien race that take over people’s worlds. Kagehito’s people unfortunately suffered, but he helped us stop our invasion and we were able to bring his people back!”
“Wow…. that’s what happened to me but… with the Kraang” Leo muttered.
“Oh really, odd… Wait, this might seem out of nowhere but hear me out. Did you, so happen to stop the invasion by cutting their spaceship in half with the portal they came out of?” Yuichi questioned.
“NO WAY!! YOU ALSO PORTAL CHOPPED THEIR SPACESHIP?!?”
“I CAN’T BELIEVE THIS!! This is like the THIRD thing we have in common!”
“That's insane! We need to think about more things we have in common! Uhhh oo! How about, favorite TV as a kid!”
“Hmmm, oh! Sailor Moon! I love it because me and the main character have the same name, Usagi!”
“No. Freaking. WAY. ME TOOO!!” Leo squealed.
“At this point we HAVE to be best friends,” Yuichi claimed.
Leo in an authoritative voice said, “I hereby declare this day to be when we become the best of friends!!”
Yuichi laughed at Leo’s dramatic tone.
“WAIT! It’s already two am?!” Yuichi gasped looking at Leo’s alarm clock.
“HOLY SHIT REALLY?” Leo was stunned that they really chatted for that long.
“Well, we should really call it a night. We can keep chatting tomorrow!” Yuichi remarked.
“Sure of course! Goodnight Yuichi”
“Goodnight Leo”
“Also I hope you don’t mind. I sometimes get up in the middle of the night to check on my bros. It’s just… a habit I have after the whole… Kraang thing…” Leo trailed off.
Yuichi turned around, seeing how he looked so… hurt just mentioning it. He was told by Señor Hueso about it. It reminded him of the invasion…
“Sure, I'm not going to question it,” Yuichi reassured. Leo softly smiled looking at Yuichi.
“Goodnight Yuichi,” Leo said.
“Night Leo” Yuichi replayed.
“One fart and I’m dead,” Leo giggled.
Yuichi snorted, reminded of the video of the meme. Leo was excited! His new friend already had many things in common with him.

Morning soon came with the warm aroma of breakfast waking Leo and Yuichi. Yuichi takes one big morning stretch. Bowing his hair away from his eyes slowly rising up.
“Morning Leo” Yuichi croaked.
“Mornin- OMG!!” Leo shouted.
“What? What?!” Yuichi was now fully awake.
“WAIT! Don’t move!” Leo takes out his phone, taking a picture bunny. Leo shows the said bunny the photo, he was all fluffed up like a cloud and both busted out laughing. They must've laughed so hard that it got the brothers to see what all the commotion was about.
“What’s this commotion all about?” the oldest of the brothers questions. Both Leo and Yuichi were out of breath, coughing, and with tears in their eyes.
Leo wheezes out, “The- picture- the- Yuichi-” Yuichi fanned his face from tears.
At this point they were laughing because the other was also laughing. Leo, with Yuichi's permission, showed them the photo. The other Hamato brother remarked how cute and crazy Yuichi looked.
“Ok, ok, enough you two. You better get yourselves together before breakfast gets cold” Raph announced as he left along with Donnie.
“Hey Usagi, do you have any allergies or food that are a big no no for you?” Mikey asked.
“Uhh no, I don't have allergies and I’ll mostly eat anything” Yuichi answered.
“Ok you want strawberry, blueberry or plain pancakes” Mikey added.
“Strawberry!” Yuichi replied.
After taking Yuichi’s order Mikey starts to leave towards the kitchen. “Wow! You don’t even ask your big brother what he wants now??” Leo dramatically places his hand over his heart.
“Leo quit being dramatic, I KNOW what you want” Mikey annoyingly replied. Leo chuckled while Yuichi got his fur and hair tamed.
They both make their way to the kitchen, where everyone, including Donnie, were eating. Mikey places a plate of bunny shaped strawberry and triangle shaped blueberry pancakes in front of Yuichi and Leo. Yuichi thanked Mikey and complimented on how great the pancakes were.
Leo then asks, “Hey Yuichi, do your katanas have mystic powers too? Mine can not only open portals but also be able to teleport.”
“Actually it's a yo-yo that's my mystic weapon.” Yuichi said nonchalantly.
Before anyone could say anything Yuichi gets up running to Leo’s room, coming back with said mystic yo-yo.
“I like to bring my yo-yo to work to help me out during slow days. So I’ll always have it with me. This yo-yo is a Kaikishi weapon, it’s mystical powers to find and entrap yokai. Only if they are causing trouble of course” Yuichi remarked.
“Maybe you should use it on Nardo, he’s always causing trouble,” Donnie teased. Leo giving his twin a mocking face.
“Ok, let me try it,” Yuichi said, flinging the yo-yo towards Leo.
Aaaand nothing.
“Well at least we now know you are safe” Yuichi reassured.
“Great to know!” Leo sarcastically remarked.
“Wow! My mystic weapon is similar to your yo-yo!” Mikey beamed.
“Oh really!?
“It was originally a Kusari-Fundo, now it’s nunchucks. BUT it still works the same way as a yo-yo, look!
Mikey flings one of his nunchucks, its length increasing the farther it went. Mikey then pulled it back as it sparkled with fire. Yuichi was in awe of Mikey’s weapon.
“Your weapon is so cool!!” Yuichi chirped.
“Do you know how to do any yoyo tricks?” Mikey questioned.
“Do I even know how to do yoyo tricks?” Yuichi rhetorically asked.
Yuichi starts to show off all his tricks and moves he had practiced and would use during fights.
“My yo-yo also can connect like a magnet. Like here, Leo, can I use one of your katanas?”
Leo takes out both of them and places it in front of him. Yuichi flick his yo-yo towards one of Leo's katanas, swiftly taking it into his hands. The brother’s ‘oooo’ and ‘aaah’ echoed as Yuichi bowed down to his audience.
“A thank you, thank you. Please thank you. Now! This move I used when I was fighting nature yokai, Karasu-Tengu!” Yuichi then snatches Leo’s other katana, spinning it and twirling it around then landing it in front of Leo.
“And then I said, ‘I missed on purpose.’”
“AGAIN?!?” Leo shouted.
“Huh?!?” Yuichi and Leo’s brother’s all confused at Leo’s sudden outburst.
“We have realized that we have so many things that we have in common with each other last night! This is another one!” Leo explained.
“Well of course, we are best friends after all!” Yuichi winked.
“Aww man, I wanted to be best friends with Usagi too!” Mikey pouted.
“Don’t worry Mikey-chan you can be my yo-yo partner!”
“Yay! Also can you throw buildings or a boat with yours?”
“Uhhh, WHAT???” Yuichi looked at Mikey with astonishment.
“Yeah, surprisingly Mikey is the strong one,” Donnie chimed in.
“You got to show me how to do that!!” Yuichi exclaimed.
“Hey now, don’t start stealing my best friend,” Leo remarked.
“Sounds like someone is JELLY that I will be a better friend than you Leo!”
“This is not a competition!”
“Says the guy with no friends”
“Ooooooooo” The two other brothers FELT that burn. Yuichi tries his best not to burst into laughter with Mikey’s comment.
“All right, all right we don’t need a fight this early in the morning” Raph commented.
“And that's my cue to leave,” Donnie said, going straight to his lab.
Soon the rest of the boys all started getting ready for the day ahead of them.
