Slighty Sinister Sleuth, Carelessly Charismatic Con

Summary:

A poem inspired by Shinichi and Kaito's strange relationship.

Work Text:

Is it “thick as thieves”, or is it “no loyalty amongst thieves”?

Maybe the true answer is somewhere in between.

But we’ve over-discussed the realm of Conan Doyle, Christie, and Ellery Queen.

This is the story of a certain detective and a childlike sneak.

One reverted to a small kid, the other Kid in name.

They have their own game.

They work their best to put the other’s skill to shame.

Sometimes it’s playful, others untamed.

So what attracted our dear deduction freak and caused him to play?

Silly, like he’d say.

If I had to guess, I’d assume it is the way our gentleman thief behaves.

Is it the charm of a magician putting on the grandest shows for a captive audience?

The flirting and skirting around morality and mortality just enough for one dance before he leaves you lost in a trance?

The way he could convince anyone just once to leave it all to chance?

But what happens when they’re allied against more harrowing foes?

A terrifying thought, you know.

These two together are clever enough to run off with the entire town’s riches in tow.

They’re somewhat like Lupin and Holmes, only they have their own code.

After all, how could he ruin this show?

The sleuth won’t pry once his rival’s slipped like a bandit into the night.

But in turn, like clockwork, the bandit always returns his prize before sunrise.

Why?

That’s the fun of it, you see.

This cat and mouse thing.

Who will come out with the victory?
