Chapter Text
That was it. That was the last straw. Yoongi truly prided himself in being the most patient and mature third grader in his class, even outside class. He had tried his best to concentrate on playing Pokémon in an attempt drown out the childish banter coming from the seats behind him, but when they started squirming about doing god knows what back there, that he could feel his chair vibrate violently, he had had enough.
Being the calm and collected child that he was, Yoongi removed his ear buds to make out the voices coming from behind him in an attempt to decipher what exactly was going on behind him. After all, it might have been an accident, right? Like bumping into the chair in front of you when stretching...multiple times...
He heard a high pitched screeching followed by bubbly laughter and immediately regretted removing his ear buds.
"It's more fun if you push your chair all the way, Jiminie!"
That was all it took for Yoongi to whip his head around the aisle of the airplane before said Jiminie could recline his seat and annoy him further.
He was greeted by the surprised faces of two boys, probably a few years younger than himself (in age only; they were clearly mentally younger than him by half a decade or so), who were lying upside down with their backs on the seats, and their tiny legs in the air, swinging about, kicking between the back of Yoongi's seat and their own. More specifically, the stubby black haired one was kicking Yoongi's chair, and the thinner, unnaturally blonde one was doing the same to the empty seat beside Yoongi. Nonetheless it shook the entire row he was seated in and made his blood boil.
The taller blonde one reoriented himself to sit up, holding his knees to his chest, flashing him the greatest (oddly) square smile, "Hyung, your face looks funny." He turned towards Jimin and contorted his facial features, using his slim fingers to mimic Yoongi's slanted, angry eyebrows. "ARGHHHHH!" Jimin giggled softly in response.
"YAH! Stop that! I do NOT look like that. And you," he turned to glare at Jimin, "stop laughing!"
The younger two continued their senseless mocking, and before he knew what he was doing, Yoongi had slithered his hands between the seats, swinging them wildly in an attempt to grab his tormentors by the collar.
Or so he thought.
Taehyung easily avoided Yoongi's swinging grasp, jumping into the empty window seat beside him, leaving Yoongi's left hand to grasp nothing but the air. His other hand had landed squarely on the young black haired boy's cheek, spurring an immediate reaction of caterwauling and tears.
"Oh my god. I-I'm-," Yoongi stumbled over his words. That was not meant to happen.
"Look at what you did! You made Jiminie cry!"
"I-I-I didn't mean to! I just-"
"Big fat meanie! Taetae's gonna tell daddy!"
The boy ran off to the back of the aircraft, and Yoongi panicked. He extended his hand to completely cover Jimin's mouth, muffling his cries so that he would not draw the attention of the other passengers on the plane.
"Hey, kid-" Yoongi felt Jimin's sharp, tiny little teeth sink into the flesh of his palm. "OWWW WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" He screamed, retracting his hand from Jimin's face to examine the damage he had done.
Jimin was still crying, louder, if that was possible, and Yoongi knew he had to fix this fast, before his dad found him making kids cry again. He had just gotten back his DS after having it taken away for "bullying" the kids in school. Of course he didn't actually bully them he just didn't like sharing his toys and the others had kept insisting that he should let them play with his DS.
Not knowing how to comfort the young boy, Yoongi found himself getting out of his seat to join Jimin in the row behind him. Jimin looked up at him and stared wide-eyed, hiccupping when Yoongi met his gaze.
"I'm not going to hurt you," Yoongi said calmly. Jimin's lips quivered in response as he held back another wave of wails threatening to be released into the peaceful silence.
Yoongi smiled because he found the kid endearing when he wasn’t screeching. He had the biggest almond shaped eyes, and thick pink lips that complemented his chubby cheeks perfectly. He was crying softly now, and Yoongi considered that an accomplishment in itself.
"I'm sorry...Jimin...ie?" he said unsurely, never actually having heard the kid’s real name except from ‘Taetae’ earlier. He leaned towards Jimin so he could wipe away the tears that stained his round cheeks.
To his surprise, Jimin opened his arms, welcoming Yoongi. He awkwardly hugged the younger boy back, as if accepting his forgiveness. It was sweet and all, but Yoongi didn't know how much longer he could withstand Jimin’s hug because he felt Jimin pulling on the hood of Yoongi’s sweater and choking him in the process of showing his affection. Nonetheless, he continued to rub soothing circles into Jimin's back with his fingertips until he felt the boy's breathing go back to normal. Jimin wasn't crying anymore but he wasn't letting go of Yoongi either.
"Jiminie, you want to try playing hyung's video game?"
At the mention of gaming, Jimin had released Yoongi from his deathly hug and smiled up at him, eyes twinkling with excitement as he nodded frantically.
Yoongi couldn't help but laugh at how cute Jimin looked at that moment. Jimin would never know it, but he was the first person who got permission to touch Yoongi’s precious DS.
