Severus Snape stumbled back; his shallow breathing filled the otherwise silent room. His mind was racing, trying to comprehend what he had seen in his student’s mind before he was thrown out.
“Potter,” he said before amending, “Harry, I am so sorry, If I had known-”
“What! What would you have done, hm?” Harry Potter spat out, “Help me? Been kind to me? Would you have treated me differently!”
Harry started pacing the room, too angry to stop.
“This whole time that I’ve been at Hogwarts you have done nothing but berate and belittle me. You’ve been unnecessarily cruel to children. And why? Just because you still have a grudge against my dead father. How pathetic.” Harry sneered
“And you say you’re sorry.”
Severus opened his mouth to respond but Harry kept ranting.
“And it’s not just me! You’ve been horrible to so many other students, like Hermione. ‘I see no difference’ Really? What is wrong with you?”
Severus had the decency to wince at his statement, but his reaction didn’t stop Harry.
“And Neville! Merlin, anyone with eyes could see that he’s been abused. Yet you treat him like garbage. What has he ever done to you? Actually, I don’t even want to know.”
Harry stood still, trembling in rage. He took a shaky breath before continuing.
“You... you think apologizing after you found out that all your assumptions were wrong suddenly makes it all okay? That it makes up for what you’ve done? I don’t give a damn what Dumbledore says. Once a Death Eater, always a Death Eater.
“We’re done. I’m leaving now and never coming back.”
The sound of Harry’s footsteps was deafening in the quiet room.
Harry opened the door, then turned his head to where Severus had sunk.
“My mother would be so disappointed in you,” he whispered.
Severus flinched when the door slammed shut. He put his head in his hands.
‘What have I done...”
