It’s stupid, but he likes to sit outside the Sanctum now - some tangled-up little-kid part of him thinking that if anyone’s gonna remember him, it’ll be the wizards.
And there’s one day where he thinks, just for a minute, that it might have worked, when Stephen - Dr Strange, that is - stands in the doorway and that funny cape of his freezes and then gives a wild tug, like it’s one of those dogs that points at things.
Peter can’t help it - it runs through his head like a mantra, please please please - and he holds his breath, waiting for Dr Strange to turn his way, to really see him - but no, he just furrows his brow, tosses off the most stilted wave ever, and says, “Hi, Spider-man,” before muttering, “What’s gotten into you?” to, by all appearances, his cape and disappearing once more behind the door; Peter webs his way back to Queens, and does not return.
