“My lil siren,” Mal calls her once, offhand, tossed to her, a live ball of feathers fluttering with possibility, so River gathers opinions.
“Temptin’ nekkid ladies,” Jayne says; “Something ‘bout songs, I think?” Kaylee offers, and both of those might fit if she squints, but they’re not quite right, not the proper shape.
“Knowledge,” Zoe says, her eyes fathoms-deep and dark, “that’s what they offer, all the things a person wants to know but shouldn’t,” and that - well, that fits him and her too, all too well.
