It was an oddly loud afternoon at Nevermore, the students gathered in the quad for festive activities. Christmas was upon them, the holidays were a big deal at Nevermore. One of the biggest events during the holidays was the winter formal. It was introduced just a few years back when the students suggested a dance to begin the Christmas break. The dance was to be held exactly three days from then, people have been confessing and dress shopping. Though Wednesday had other plans.
The noise of a cello could be heard all over campus, specifically coming from the attic dorm in Ophelia hall. There you would find Wednesday Addams away playing some sort of Christmas carol with an eerie twist. The sound wasn’t the worst but her roommate wouldn’t have it.
Speak of the devil.
Enid barged into the room, seeming happy. A barbie smile plastered on her face, though it quickly faded when she saw Wednesday and her cello. Enid walked up to Wednesday's music stand, quickly removing the piece of music.
“You have 3 seconds to put it back, I know where you live, Enid,” Wednesday said coming to a stop from the music.
“I have news, plus that music was totally scary. Maybe you could try jingle bells”
“I would rather die,” Wednesday said, getting up from her spot and moving toward her bed.
“What would be so important that you stopped my festive activities, I was finally feeling the Christmas spirit”
“Come on, that's nothing close to ‘Christmas spirit’, andddd I’m planning to ask Ajax to the winter formal, “ enid said cheerfully, Wednesday looked back at her noticing that enid was now on her colorful bed, kicking her feet in joy.
“The winter formal. I haven’t made any plans for that dance, nor do I think I’d start now. Finding a date is the least of my troubles right now.” Wednesday looked back at her bed, organizing the already neat pillows.
“Just go alone? You don’t need a date, if you wanted one you could ask Xavier, he’s like totally head over heels for you” Enid suggested.
The suggestion wasn’t a bad idea. Xavier would be a good suitor if it wasn’t for the fact that Wednesday was smitten with her colorful roommate. An odd pairing to say the least. Wednesday was rather good at hiding her feelings, sometimes they’d still overwhelm her. Hearing about ajax twisted her gut, not in a good way either. Some sort of jealousy variant, jealousy mixed with a sort of anger and lack of self-worth. Never had sorrow felt so bad.
“I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to go with someone to the dance. I doubt Xavier has a date right now. Though, my biggest issue would be finding a dress.” Wednesday said, hoping that Enid goes along with her to buy a dress.
“ Can’t you wear your outfit from the Rave’n ?” Enid asked from her bed, clearly not going according to plan.
“Sadly, It’s ruined.”
“Then let’s go out tomorrow and buy you a dress, and ask out Xavier while you’re at it.” Replied the blonde, not exactly what she had in mind but Wednesday decided to take the win.

The morning sun hit nevermore like a brick. Wednesday and Enid planned on going out this morning but Wednesday woke up alone in the shared bedroom. This isn’t much of a surprise because Enid is always out for morning activities, she recently joined the frisbee team, and It’s supposed to get her more used to her wolf form or something.
Wednesday removed herself from her bed, wearing a big t-shirt and her hair down. This was the only time the Addams looked messy or unorganized. Nobody has seen this side of her – well nobody alive to tell the tale.
She walked towards her makeshift dresser, picking out an outfit. She wanted to dress to impress, not that she would ever disappoint the werewolf ( she hoped not ). She was about to take off her shirt ( to change ) but Enid came in.
Enid, currently in a drenched gray sweatshirt, and some sort of black sweatpants, assumingly back from frisbee practice. Staring at a messy Wednesday.
“Sorry I- I should have knocked, I'm sorry I’ll just leav-” Enid said, reaching for the doorknob.
“No it’s fine just stay, I was just picking out an outfit to wear,” Wednesday said, going back to the dresser.
“You’re hair’s down, this feels illegal to see. You sure you don’t want me to go ?”
“We’ll be roommates for a while, it was a matter of time before you saw me like this,” Wednesday said going to her desk and finding a hair tie for her hair.
“You’re right, well anyways... I asked for permission to go to Jericho and got approved. We'll go shopping after I take a shower and get ready.”
“Yes please shower, you reek of wet dog,” Wednesday said, though somewhere in her mind she didn’t mind the view. Enid, usually dressed in all things pink and girly, currently wearing a very masculine outfit that shows off her build. This brought a blush to Wednesday's cheeks, she just hoped Enid hadn’t noticed.
After changing and a needed shower, they were set to leave.
A long car ride took up at least 20 minutes, they were full of nonstop rambling from a short-haired blond. Eventually, they arrived in Jericho.
–
The city was filled to the brim with nevermore students looking for whatever they could to go to the formal, it felt chaotic but strangely. Wednesday sure enjoyed it.
“Before we go anywhere, we should get lattes! I’ve heard that the new baristas are like pros at their jobs “ enid exclaimed looking at the shorter girl, suddenly a rain of remembrance hit her. Tyler had worked at the said coffee shop, she was literally inviting her best friend to her killer ex’s last job.
“Orrrrr not, you know coffee really isn’t my forte.’
“No need to spare my feelings, I’m already over that monster. After all, he was only a pawn”
Enid whined at first but eventually agreed. The two walked to the weathervane, Enid walking on one side of the sidewalk all cheery, she sure attracted a lot of attention. Though not any bystanders approached her, the goth right by her side scared off any and everyone. Giving them the well-deserved space they needed.
They soon arrived at the weathervane, it looked the same as it did all that time ago. Besides the fact that the psycho killer hyde was no longer working here. They walked in and set their things down at a booth.
Enid's original purpose of coming here was hopes of finding Xaiver working, though that had certainly failed them as another much older male was working this shift. Not that it mattered that much, she just figured she could kill two birds with one stone.
The two girls ordered their coffee, Enid getting a caramel latte while Wednesday ordered an even sweeter caramel latte.
“You know I never thought Ms.Darkness and everything black ordered caramel lattes,” Enid said between taking pictures of her latte.
“Everyone needs their daily sugars,” Wednesday said before taking a huge sip of her coffee and looking to the side of them. A window allowed her to have the usual view of the town. She took in the view, not aware of the blonde taking pictures of her.
Enid liked taking pictures of Wednesday when she wasn’t looking, it was sort of a hobby of hers. She kept a full gallery of photos from Wednesday. Every photo looked astonishing, Enid couldn’t help but admire her best friend. It’s not like Enid Sinclair, the Number 1 Ajax fan & Big-house-with-a-picket-fence-future-house-wife, was gaining feelings for her friend. No, It was simply admiration.
Enid added the photo to her album, then also started drinking her latte. It was a calm moment, silence took completely over, not that the girls had minded, they truly liked the silence. Well until a voice directed at Enid filled the air.
“Heyyyy, long time no see. It has been a while, Enid.” A boy, about their age, came up to them. Surely a normie, Wednesday thought. No way she’d seen him around Nevermore.
“Oh hey, yeah it has been… quite a while Evan” Enid nervously giggled at the end.
“So, the winter formal is coming up. I know nobody has asked you yet, so why not just take me yk ?” Evan, already seated at the side of Enid, clearly making the werewolf uncomfortable.
“Actually I was planning on asking someone else out,” Enid said scooting away from the boy, this caught Wednesday's eye. The goth set down her coffee.
“Really who? I bet they aren’t as handsome as me” Evan continued, he pulled up the sleeves of his red shirt, revealing almost zero muscle but he still flexed.
Wednesday cleared her throat, catching Evan’s eye. He fixed his shirt.
“Dang, are you like a ghost? You’re so pale… Enid this your friend? I didn’t know zombies could take sunlight.” He mocked, clearly hoping Enid would laugh along with him.
“What is it to you? “ Wednesday said, cutting him off from his laugh.
“Hey, no need to get all aggressive zombie girl. I may be a normie but I can break every zombie bone in your little body.” Evan said, lifting himself off his seat.
“I could think of 47 ways to end you right now. You getting up just brought that number to 48.”
Wednesday said, taking another sip of her drink.
“Guys, could we not argue like this? Especially you, Evan, you know better than this.” Enid put her hands up to try to control the clear tension in the air.
“Enid, I suggest you control your normie friend here.”
“C'mon, Enid are you really going to listen to her? What is she? You’re girlfr….end? Don’t tell me “ Evan looks at enid who doesn’t say a thing, not because she’s with Wednesday. Moreover the fact she would hate to accidentally insult her best friend.
“God, who knew a pretty girl like you would end up dating another just as weird girl? You know you were way prettier without those scars and grown-out nails. Fucking weirdo, you were my one-way ticket to banging some nevermore chick but you’re a mess. Never speak to me again.”
Evan got up in a hurry and left out the door leaving the girls in another silence. This one was less enjoyable than the other.
Enid’s voice came out raspy, appearing on the verge of tears.
“Wednesday, Do you think these scars make me … ugly ?”
“I think those are proof of your victory. They make you look frightening, The way they adorn your face is truly... Ravishing.”
“You really think so ??” Enid whined at Wednesday's response.
“I know it by heart,” Wednesday said, a smile creeping up on her face but she controlled herself quickly.
“I need to finish some business, meet up at your favorite boutique.” Wednesday excused herself from her seat, leaving her backpack.
Enid didn’t think much of it.
—------------------------
Enid left, now looking at dresses for the formal. The theme was a midnight gala, or whatever that meant. She just wanted a bright white dress to blind others.
One dress, in particular, caught the werewolf's eye. A white dress, snow white. It was a well-fit gown, something you’d only find in the 1800s. Enid took in the beauty of the dress, admiring it from all angles. It was laced with gold ribbons around the seams. It stood out, not only price-wise... But it was truly breathtaking.
A middle-aged woman approached Enid, only assuming she was a worker.
“Hello, need help with anything ?” The lady asked, in a very distinguishable accent.
“Do you think I could try this on ?” Enid asked, the lady quickly nodded and took the dress off the stand, and handed it to the wolf.

Enid walked out of the changing room with the dress on, and the white blinded. The gold was smooth. It all looked wonderful on her.
“It looks amazing on you, hold on I’ll be right back,” The elder lady said before going to the counter to greet a customer.
Enid thought about how great it looked on her, the gold complimented her eyes while the white blinded.
“Breathtaking..” A voice said from the doorway of the dressing room.
“Wednesday, where were you ?” The wolf asked.
“Taking care of important matters, though I see you’ve found a gown for the formal…”
“Yeah, it’s really pretty. too bad I could never afford it. Living on a student salary isn’t the best..”
Wednesday took in the view. Enid with that gown, it was a sight she wanted to hold close to her heart. Enid’s scars are in full view, almost as if they were meant to be there all along. Wednesday wanted to kiss all along them, make Enid proud of her victory and not take them as a loss.
“Would you like to take the dress?” The elder shop owner asked Enid, she had quite literally startled the wolf.
“Oh sorry bu-”
“She’ll take it.” Wednesday cut in.
Enid was in shock, Wednesday had bought her a thousand-dollar dress she was only going to wear to some school formal.
“Then I’ll have it ready in an hour.”
-_____________
“Wednesday, You can’t afford this. We both live on a student salary & your parents will KILL YOU…” Enid scolded the goth.
“Well actually, someone decided to sponsor our shopping today,” Wednesday said while pulling out a leather wallet from her pocket. The word *E V A N* was carefully sewn into the leather.
“How... What... Don’t tell me..” Enid placed both her hands over her mouth.
“He’s fine if that's what you’re wondering. Just decided to politely encourage him to sponsor us…” Wednesday said, a grin quickly creeping up on her face. Cynical… yet Enid found it sort of comforting.
_________
An hour had passed, and Wednesday ended up buying Enid the dress. They were headed back to Nevermore. Or currently in a car ride toward the school.
“You know Wednesday, I never saw you pick out a dress,” Enid said, munching down on a burger they had bought on their way out.
“I did pick one out, Though I would want to see your reaction on the day of rather than now.”
“Boo, you’re no fun” Enid pouted, her free hand had its thumb down. Which Wednesday didn’t bother to look at, instead she just chuckled a very hidden one.

It was Winter-formal-eve, at least that's what Enid called it. The day right before the well awaited Winter formal. Or, the day Enid asks out Ajax to the formal.
“I’m going to have a HEART ATTACK... Like how does he expect me to ask him out.. #so not cool” Enid yelled out, she was currently pacing around the room like a maniac.
“Enid, It is about to be 7 pm. If you don’t go now you won’t have a date at all.” Wednesday said while clicking at her typewriter.
“I hate it when you’re right. Ookoooook I’m going to head over to his dorm if anybody asks... I went to the greenhouse.”
“Greenhouse at 7 pm, you could really work on your excuses Sinclair.”
“Shut it, Addams, oook i’m going to go.”
Enid walked out the door, slamming it shut. Leaving Wednesday alone in silence.
Thing walked up to Wednesdays desk, Tapping around.
*weren’t you going to ask her out* he tapped.
“Yes I was, my plans have been interrupted by a certain stoner.. For once we must let fate have its go. “ Wednesday sighed, continuing her paper.
_______________
It was the day of the winter formal. Everybody was dressed to impress. The theme, Midnight gala, made everyone think of the Victorian era. People dressed up in fancy gowns with a mask on their eyes.
Enid arrived at the formal alone, though not that it got her any less attention. All eyes were on her. Her gown was truly a sight to behold. Her hair was tied back, a gold ribbon holding it up. Bangs in the front adorned her eyes and complimented her scars. They truly did belong.
Enid walked into the dance, music was playing. Something from the romantic era, this school really couldn’t pick just one theme.
Enid’s eyes quickly drew to the stoner boy, who recently agreed to be her date for the formal. Yet, he was surrounded by some girl in a yellow dress.
“Ajax, who’s your friend ?” Enid asked, moving close to him.
“Enid, could we please talk?” Ajax said, quickly taking a firm grip on the wolf's hand and moving her to a corner.
“I can’t do this,” Ajax said. Enid took in the words not finding an actual meaning just yet.
“What”
“Enid you’re cool. Your fangs and claws, but I just don’t think I dig werewolf chicks anymore, you get me ?”
“Wait, so you’re dumping me on the day of the winter formal. I seriously can’t believe you.”
“It’s not like that, Enid please listen” Ajax tried reaching for Enid's arm but she was already halfway out the door.
Before she could leave, a waiter knocked over some drink on her, staining her dress a dark red.
All eyes turned to face her, the afternoon was really ruined.
She ran out of the venue with mascara running down her face, her white dress now stained a dark wine red. Completely heartbroken.
Eventually, the blonde arrived at the dorm. Tears still formed in her eyes, completely dumbfounded by the situation. Now on her bed.
“The moon is rather lovely tonight.”
“Wednesday ?” Enid looked up from her bed. Where she found Wednesday standing in the doorway, her hair let down. Wearing a beautiful black gown, it more than blended into the darkness. And was that makeup? Enid didn’t know, nor did she try to find out. She got up from her bed quickly.
“Why are you here, what about Xavier?”
Wednesday moved closer.
“I didn’t ask him out. Nor did I plan to go.”
“What why?”
Wednesday moved passed Enid, towards the window.
“Let’s go outside,” she said before exiting through the window towards the balcony.
_______
The winter air felt nice, the breeze hit their hair. Wednesdays flowing in the wind, something Enid didn’t mind seeing.
“You were right... The moon is lovely” Enid spoke, a white fog released from her mouth. It was winter.
They took in the sight of the full moon, the only full moon not a single wolf was howling.
A melody started playing.
Sharp sounds from the record player. It stood perfectly on a sort of makeshift table placed in the corner. Enid was way too focused on the record player to realize Wednesday was now behind her.
“Could I have this dance ?” Wednesday extended her hand.
A million thoughts ran through Enid's head. Why here? Why now? Why in the moonlight? What did this even mean? Yet she ignored them all and took Wednesday's hand.
Wednesday pulled Enid in, they started dancing. Nothing like the dance Wednesday did at the Rave’n, this dance was for two people – this dance was for them.
They swayed with the wind, Enid who has never danced like this before felt everything just come to her. The moonlight lit up their balcony, the song getting louder and louder, it felt ethereal – she felt like she was floating. As if Wednesday and she had lifted above the ground. The moon felt closer than ever, she could reach out and hold it.
They moved in closer, and closer.
The music became louder and louder.
“tus ojos a la luz de la luna plateada… son mi tono favorito de azul.” Wednesday said under her breath.
Enid had no clue what Wednesday said, but she felt emotion in the words. They took her in, so much so that she moved closer to Wednesday.
Closer.
Closer.
Closer.
There they were, chest to chest.
A kiss, all that it took was a kiss.
Lips on lips. That’s all it ever took.
Enid pushed in first, gently as if Wednesday was a fragile doll. Careful about not too much and not too little. Wednesday submitted, unexpectedly but she failed to take over.
They backed away.
This – This was all Enid needed. All that she needed to feel beautiful in ruined makeup, a wine-stained gown & those scars. Those stupid scars Wednesday loved so much. That Enid has grown to finally adore.
It only took a ruined night and a perfect kiss.
