Work Text:

“Today is the day boys!” Toni said as her and the boys passed by a homecoming poster hung on someones locker.

“Today’s the day for what exactly? Sweet pea asked as they stopped at Toni’s locker so she could grab one of her textbooks.

“Today’s the day I’m finally going to tell Cheryl how I feel and ask her to be my date to the dance,” Toni said sounding very confident.

Sweet pea and Fangs both burst into a fit of laughter.

“What’s so funny?”

“The fact that you said that with so much confidence,” Sweet pea said in between
laughs.

“What is that supposed to mean?” Toni said socking the boy in his arm.

“Ouch!”

Fangs was the first one to speak up, “What he means is, you’ve been saying that you’re going to tell her how you feel for two years and you still haven’t. I mean come on Tiny when we first moved to Riverdale High you two hated each other and then you guys ended up sorting out your differences and became friends and then well you fell for her hard. I just don’t understand why it’s so hard for you to tell her I mean what are you scared of? I know it’s not rejection because you’ve always been very confident and smooth when it comes to girls.”

Toni sighed, “I don’t know I’ve gotten really close to telling her a couple of times, but then I get scared.”

“Scared of what exactly?” Sweet pea chimed in.

“Scared that if I tell her how I really feel that she might not feel the way I do and then she’ll never talk to me again that or make it weird. I don’t know I’ve just always tried telling myself that I’d rather have Cheryl in my life for a long time as friend. I don’t want her to just be some girl that I used to date, she’s someone I always want to have around.”

Sweet pea shook his head, “I think you’re thinking way too deep into this.”

Toni was going to say something until Cheryl made her way over to the group, causing the trio to grow quiet.

“What were you guys gossiping about?” Cheryl asked curiously.

“We were just talking about the homecoming dance, and I was just telling Tiny and Fogarty that I was thinking about asking Josie,” Sweet pea said.

Cheryl smiled, “You definitely should, I know for a fact that Josie has a little thing for you, but you didn’t hear that from me.”

“Yeah, that’s what I was trying to get him to see, but he was too scared he’d get rejected,” Fangs chimed in looking in Toni’s direction causing her to glare at the boy.

“Well, I think you should ask her,” Cheryl said.

“Right,” Fangs said still looking in Toni’s direction causing her to give him a swift kick to the leg.

“Mmm,” The boy grunted.

Cheryl raised an eyebrow, “Well, I came over to see if you’d walk me to class?” Cheryl asked looking in Toni’s direction.

“Yeah, for sure,” The pink haired girl said quickly closing her locker and saying goodbye to the boys.

Cheryl and Toni walked side by side down the hall smiling at one another as they did every morning. They talked about school and the drama with their friends, at some point during their conversation Toni felt like maybe now would be a good time to ask what she’s been dying to ask the girl next to her.

“TT?” Cheryl said knocking the pink haired girl out of her trance.

“What?” Toni asked confused.

Cheryl chuckled, “I asked who you were taking to the dance?”

As they came to a halt at Cheryl’s destination, Toni inhaled deeply.

“Cheryl, I was-“

“Oh my god Cheryl!” Veronica shouted.

Toni rolled her eyes at the raven haired girl who always somehow manages to cock block her, “You’ll never guess what tea I just found out!”

“V I don’t mean to sound rude but-“ Before Toni could utter another word Veronica cut her off.

“Archie is going to ask me to the dance!” The girl squealed.

“How do you know this?” Cheryl said completely ignoring the fact that Toni was still there.

“Cher?” Toni said attempting to get the girls attention.

“I thought you said Reggie asked you already? So now if Archie asks you you’re gonna go with him?” Cheryl questioned still ignoring Toni.

“Well I haven’t yet decided which hunk I’m going to let escort me,” Veronica giggled.

“Cheryl?” Toni said once again.

Cheryl looked over at the pink haired girl with an apologetic look, “Sorry TT, what was it you were saying?”

Toni went to say what she has spent the last twenty minutes trying to tell Cheryl, but it was as though she couldn’t get the words from her head to her mouth.

She sighed, “Its not important, see you at lunch?”

Cheryl smiled, “Of course bye TT.”

-

Toni couldn’t help but beat herself up for not just asking Cheryl right then and there, but for whatever reason the girl always seems to make Toni nervous. It also didn’t help having Veronica there.

“Earth to Toni?” Fangs said while waving his hands in her face knocking the pink haired girl out of her trance.

“Sorry what did you say?”

“I asked if you were going to help me dissect this?” The dark haired serpent said looking down at the frog in front of him.

“Yeah dude I’m sorry,” She said grabbing a pair of gloves, she was so lost in thought she forgot that she was in biology.

Fangs raised an eyebrow, “What’s up with you?”

Toni shook her head, “Nothing.”

Fangs nodded, “Well did you ask red?”

Toni ignored the boy as she picked up the scalpel.

The boy chuckled, “I’ll take that as a no.”

Toni shook her head, “Did you ask Kevin?”

“I did!” Fang said with a beaming smile.

“And he said yes?” The girl questioned.

“He did, but I see what you’re trying to do. Why didn’t you ask red?”

Toni sighed, “I was nervous okay? Not to mention Riverdales very own gossip girl was standing right there when I was going to ask Cheryl so that didn’t help.”

Fangs shook his head, “Classic Veronica she’s always there to cock block you. So are you still going to ask her or are you just going to strike out and sit and watch someone else end up taking her?”

Toni glared at the boy, “Why are you so invested in me asking Cheryl to the dance?”

“Because you’re one of my best friends and I want you to be happy and I think you would be a lot happier if you would just tell red how you feel. Also it’s just crazy the affect that girl has on you I never in a million years would of thought that I’d see the day where a girl makes Toni Topaz nervous.” Fangs chuckled.

Toni rolled her eyes, “If I ask her at lunch will you shut up about it?”

The dark haired serpent sat there a moment, “Maybe if you actually do it.”

Toni was going to pop off with some snarky remark until their biology teacher intervened.

“Mister Fogarty and Miss Topaz, a little less gossiping and a little more dissecting.”

“Yes sir.” They both said in unison

-

The day felt as though it was dragging after biology, Toni was just ready to go to lunch so she can get this whole dance business over with. She was tired of Fangs and Sweet peas constant remarks. She knows that their hearts are in the right place but it was driving her crazy. So after her third period she did as she usually did every other day. She met Cheryl at her locker for lunch.

“Hey TT!” Cheryl said looking in the little mirror she had hung inside her locker as she applied her lipstick.

“Hey Cher! Ya ready for lunch?”

“Yes, just a second.” She said fixing her hair.

Toni couldn’t help but smile as she watched the girl, “What?” Cheryl asked as she turned to look at Toni.

Toni chuckled, “Nothing it’s just do you really need to do all that to go to lunch?”

Cheryl sighed, “How many times do I have to tell you TT it takes a lot of work to look this good.”

Toni shook her head, “Well miss perfection are you ready now?”

Cheryl rolled her eyes while shutting her locker, “I suppose, also you’ll never guess what I just found out?”

Toni raised an eyebrow, “What did you find out?”

“Well around we’ll say second period Archie asked Veronica to the dance and as I predicted she said yes.”

“Good for her I guess,” Toni said as they entered the cafeteria.

“Yeah good for her, but not so good for Reggie.” Cheryl said grabbing a lunch tray.

“Yeah I’m sure he’ll be devastated I mean he’s had a thing for Veronica since sophomore year.”

“I know so I’m just waiting for the two buffoons to clash once word gets to Reggie.”

“Guess that means I better start popping some popcorn,” Toni said laughing at her own joke causing Cheryl to giggle.

“So?” Cheryl said as her and Toni sat down at their usual lunch table.

Toni raised an eye brow, “So what?”

“You never answered my question.”

Toni looked at the girl in front of her puzzled, “I don’t even remember what your question was Cher you’re gonna have to be a little more specific.”

Cheryl shook her head, “Who are you taking to the dance?”

That sentence almost caused the pink haired girl to spit out her chocolate milk, “I- uh” she hesitated.

She started to feel like she was going to have a full on panic attack, her palms were starting to feel sweaty and her heart felt like it was going to beat out of her chest.

“Toni?” Cheryl said resting her hand on the girls.

Toni took a deep breath feeling some sense of relief, “Sorry I was in my own head for a second. But, Cher about that I-“

“Well if it isn’t the walking art piece herself.” A girl with medium length black hair said approaching the two girls.

Toni was half way tempted to tell the girl to get lost because she can not take anymore interruptions.

“Hey Minerva, it’s weird seeing you outside of class it almost feels like I hardly ever see you in the cafeteria,” She said with a beaming smile.

“Yeah I usually eat outside with my friends, but there was something I wanted to ask you.”

Toni felt as though she could just crawl out of her skin right then and there because she knew exactly what was coming.

“Oh and what might that be?” Cheryl questioned.

Minerva smiled while handing the girl a piece of sketch book paper. Cheryl looked skeptical at first as she took the paper from the other girl. When she opened the note though her face lit up.

“I- yes I would love to!” Cheryl practically blurted out.

Minerva chuckled, “Great my numbers on the back I’ll text you with more details.”

“Sounds good see ya Minerva.”

When Minerva was gone Toni chuckled, “Let me guess she asked you to the dance?”

Cheryl nodded, “Indeed she did.”

Toni shook her head, “She couldn’t of just asked you? Instead of passing you a note like we’re in elementary.”

“It wasn’t a note well I mean it kind of was, but it was a picture with a note on it.” Cheryl said unfolding the paper so Toni could see.

It was a sketch of Cheryl in a very nice looking dress and she was standing on what seemed to be a dance floor. With the words dance? Written beside it.

“How do you even know her? Because I’ve never even heard of Minerva let alone ever even seen her before.”

“She’s in my art class we sit right beside each other she’s actually really cool and super talented as you can see.”

“I’ve seen better.” Toni said taking a bite of her sandwich.

Cheryl looked over at her with a raised eyebrow, “Jealous much?”

Toni chuckled, “I’m not jealous, I just don’t know her and you’re one of my closest friends. What if she’s a weirdo?”

Cheryl practically snorted at that comment, “I’m almost positive she’s not and I can handle myself. I mean she can’t be any weirder than that beanie wearing hobo you run around with.”

Toni chuckled, “Maybe, but still just be careful.”

“Will do mom.” Cheryl said nudging Toni’s hand playfully.

Toni was so lost in thought she didn’t even crack a smile at Cheryl like she normally would. This dance was going to be painful for the pink haired serpent it almost makes her not even want to go at all.

“So who is it?” Cheryl said bringing Toni out of her own head.

Toni sat there a moment contemplating on whether or not to lie and say she has a date, “I’m going alone actually.”

Cheryl looked shocked, “For why?”

Toni shrugged, “There’s not really any girls I’m interested in taking.”

Cheryl nodded.

“Well I’m stuffed and we’re going to be late if we don’t head to class now,” Cheryl said picking up her tray.

-
After school Toni met the boys at the Whyte Whrym for a couple of beers and to play a few rounds of pool. She really didn’t want to after the events that happened at lunch. She knew If she didn’t though she’d never hear the end of it from Sweet pea. As hard as she tried though she couldn’t stop thinking about Minervas cocky smile and the way she called Cheryl a walking art piece made Toni want to vomit.

“It’s about damn time!” Sweet pea shouted as Toni made her way inside the bar.

Toni flipped the boy the bird as she made her way over to where Sweet pea and Fangs were sitting.

“I can do that too you know,” Sweet pea said lifting up both of his middle fingers while making a goofy face.

Toni shook her head, “Sorry traffic was a bitch.”

“Well we already got you a beer,” Fangs said pushing the glass towards her.

“Thanks,” She said taking a seat next to Fangs.

“You ask Josie to the dance?” Fangs asked looking over at Sweet pea.

“I did and she said yes,” The boy said smiling from ear to ear.

“That’s great dude!”

“You ask Kevin?”

“I did and he said yes!” Fangs said enthusiastically.

Toni rolled her eyes taking a sip of her beer, “It’s just a dance guys I mean it’s not going to mean anything next week or a month from now.”

Sweet pea and Fangs both gave each other a look, “Really miss I’m going to ask Cheryl Blossom to the dance?” Sweet pea said.

“Oh I see let me guess you still didn’t ask?” Fangs said chiming in.

“I was about to ask okay?” Toni said sounding frustrated.

“And you got scared?” Sweet pea questioned.

“No I didn’t get scared I just got beat to it.”

“Care to elaborate?” Fangs said.

Toni took a quick swig out of her beer, “We were at lunch and I was literally right about to ask her until some chick I’ve never seen before comes up and gives her some drawing and asks her to the dance.”

“What’s the girls name?” Sweet pea asked.

“Minerva Marble I think. Do you know her?”

The boy shook his head, “Can’t say I do. Red told the girl yes?”

Toni nodded, “Yeah she found the gesture charming I guess, so screw the dance I’m not going.”

“No you gotta go we’re all going.”

“I agree with Sweets, don’t let the fact that Cheryl is going with another girl ruin this for you. I think you should go and try to enjoy yourself.” Fangs said.

“I don’t even have a date.”

“On the contrary my Tiny little friend, what about that one chick that bartender that always lingers around us every time we come to the Whyrm?” Sweet pea said as he sipped on his beer.

“Are you talking about Tara?” Toni laughed.

“Yeah her the dark haired chick that used to go to south side high with us, she’s pretty hot you should take her.”

“I once again agree with Sweets.”

Toni shook her head, “Why would I take her to the dance?”

“Because she’s for one totally hot, for another she has a thing for you.” Sweet pea said trying to convince the pink haired girl.

“She does not and also she graduated two years ago I doubt she wants to go to a high school dance.”

Sweet pea shot Toni a devious grin, “I’m sure she one hundred percent would if she thought there was even the slightest chance she could get in your pants. I’m telling you she has a thing for you I can name numerous times that woman has gave you drinks on the house and she’s always super flirty. She even was asking about you one day me and Fangs came to play pool without you because you were too busy with your little red headed river vixen.”

Toni rolled her eyes, “I don’t care I’m not asking her.”

Sweet pea let out a loud groan, “Look Tiny going with her would be better than you not going to the dance at all or going to the dance alone sitting at a table pining after red all night. Plus maybe you’ll get laid or better maybe it’ll make red jealous.”

When Sweet pea said that Toni thought about it a moment it would be better than sulking all night and just maybe it might bother Cheryl.

“If I ask her will it shut you both up?”

Sweet pea and Fangs both nodded in agreement, “Looks like now would be the time Topaz.” Fangs said looking over at the bar where Tara stood serving a customer.

Toni looked back at her then back at the boys she sighed while taking a deep breath and downing what beer was left in her glass.

“Here goes nothing,” She mumbled to herself making her way over to the bar.

She stood at the bar sliding her glass over to the dark haired girl, “Hey there Topaz, let me guess Miller Lite?” The girl said grabbing the glass.

Toni chuckled, “You know me so well.”

The girl giggled, “Well I try to remember my regulars especially the very attractive ones.”

Toni shot the girl a cocky smile, “Well that makes two of us I always try and remember the beautiful bartenders.”

Taras face turned a dark shade of red, “Use that line on all the girls?”

“Only on the ones that catch my eye.”

The girl raised an eye brow, “Did I just step into an episode of the twilight zone or are you actually hitting on me?”

“What if am?” Toni said confidently.

The girl smiled, “I don’t know I guess that might just have to be for you to decide.”

Toni was taken aback she didn’t know what to say next so she decided to just be straight forward with the girl, “Look I’m just going to go ahead and be up front, there’s a dance at Riverdale High tomorrow night and I was just wondering if maybe you’d like to go with me?”

The girl looked as though she could just fall over, “uh- yeah totally.”

Toni smiled, “Okay, pick you up at eight?”

The girl nodded, “Absolutely.”

Toni went to walk off, “Hey Casanova don’t forget this.” Tara said sliding the beer towards Toni.

Toni sent a wink the girls way before heading back over to the boys.

“So?” Sweet pea and Fangs both said in unison.

“She said yes,” Toni said sounding a little less enthusiastic.

“Yes!!” Sweet pea shouted.

Toni rolled her eyes, “Now will the two of you get off my case so we can play some pool?”

“Looked like you were layin on the charm there pretty thick Tiny,” Fangs chuckled.

“What can I say women love my charm. Now let’s head over to the pool table so I can kick both your asses.”

“You’re on Tiny!” Sweet pea shouted.

“Loser buys a beer for the winner?” Fangs suggested.

“Deal.” Toni said.

-

All Toni could think about was Cheryl and how instead of taking the girl she’s wants she’s taking Tara a bartender who’s two years older than her and a girl she honestly has never even held a conversation with until yesterday. She hasn’t really spoken to Cheryl since the events that happened at lunch yesterday. She’s been trying her hardest to avoid her. She didn’t even walk her to first period like she normally does.

Toni was trying to hurry and put her stuff away so she could hopefully dodge Cheryl, “TT?” Toni took a deep breath as she closed the door to her locker and was met with none other than the girl she has spent all day trying to avoid.

“Cheryl hey,” Was all Toni could say.

“Since when do you call me Cheryl instead of Cher? Also what do you mean hey? I’ve been looking for you all day, You didn’t even meet me at my locker. Where have you been?” Cheryl said sounding a little upset.

“I made it to school late and I promised the boys I’d eat with them today,” Toni said keeping her eyes on anything, but Cheryl she hated lying to her.

Cheryl nodded, “I see, well I mean I could eat with you guys if the boys don’t mind?”

“Wouldn’t you rather eat with Minerva?” Toni said trying her hardest not to sound jealous.

Cheryl raised an eye brow, “For why would I want to do that?”

“Well I mean she’s taking you to the dance figured maybe she’d want to spend a little time with you.”

Cheryl chuckled, “TT if looks could kill I would be dead right now, I would much rather eat with you, don’t be so jealous.”

That comment caused Toni to grow frustrated she wasn’t jealous well I mean she is, but she doesn’t want Cheryl to know that, “I’m not jealous,” Toni said annoyed.

Cheryl was going to say something else when Veronica came running up with fresh new gossip she was dying to tell, “Cheryl just the girl I was looking for, you’ll never guess what I just heard?”

“V, can it wait?” Cheryl said looking over at Toni who looked like she could explode at any given moment.

“I gotta go meet the boys, you should go with Veronica seems like it’s urgent,” Toni said disappearing before Cheryl could try and stop her.

Toni made her way behind the building where the boys would go to smoke, she just needed some time away from Cheryl. It was nothing against her it just hurts Toni to know that some other girl is lucky enough to take the the redhead to the dance now she’ll never get to tell Cheryl just how she really feels.

As Toni made her way to the boys little hide out she spotted the two dark haired Serpents sitting on the back steps smoking a cigarette.

Sweet pea jumped when he saw the girl, “Damn it Tiny!” He said choking on cigarette smoke.

Toni chuckled, “Gotcha!”

“I thought you were weatherbee.” The boy said still coughing.

Fangs looked over at the girl putting out his cigarette, “What brings you to our neck of the woods shouldn’t you be with your red headed river vixen?”

“Last time I checked this used to be my hang out too remember?”

“Yeah till you started ditching us for red.” Sweet pea chimed in tossing his cigarette.

Toni ignored the boys comments.

“Give me one of those,” Toni said stealing a cigarette from Sweet peas pack.

“Since when do you smoke again?” The boy questioned.

“Since today,” The girl said taking a puff off the cigarette.

“Trouble in paradise?” Fangs chuckled.

Toni rolled her eyes, “I’m not in the mood guys.”

“What’s up with you? This still about that Minerva chick?”

“What do you think?” Toni said taking another puff off the cigarette in her hand.

“Don’t let it get to you, you’re taking Tara.” Sweet pea said chiming in.

“The only reason I’m taking Tara is because you two insisted that I go to the dance, I’d rather just not go at all.”

“Then don’t go,” Sweet pea suggested.

“I have to I already told Tara I was picking her up at the Whrym around eight.”

“Look Tiny it’s just a dance a stupid high school dance, red may be going with another girl, but it’s not the end of the world. I mean they could go to this dance and not hit it off then you can finally swoop in and make your move.” Fangs said trying to make Toni feel some what at ease.

Toni took a deep breath, “I know it’s just a dance I don’t even care about that I’m just upset that I’ve held all my feelings in for as long as I have. I wish I would of told Cheryl a long time ago. Every time I look at her it just feels like a huge punch to the chest.”

Fangs reached over patting the pink haired girl on the back, “I have a feeling that you’re going to get to tell her some time really soon and I think she’s going to tell you that she feels the exact same way. For now though I say go to the dance with Tara and just try and not think about anything else, we can even go out for some beers after the dance.”

Toni sighed, “Okay, I’ll try to have a good time tonight, you guys are buying the beer though.”

“Beer will be on Sweets tonight,” Fangs said looking over at the boy with a devious smile.

“The hell it will be!”

“You just scored some serious cash selling that beat up old tv to that old man that hangs out at the Whrym so you’re buying tonight.”

Sweet pea threw his head back while letting out a loud groan, “Fine!”

Toni chuckled, “You actually sold that raggedy old tv that you’ve had sitting in your trailer collecting dust for god knows how long?”

“The dude was into vintage things I told him it was vintage sue me.” The boy said throwing his arms up.

-

“I can’t believe I’m going to a high school dance.” Tara chuckled as Toni helped her off of her motorbike.

Toni laughed, “Yeah about that. What made you want to go with me to this dance?”

Tara smiled, “Isn’t it obvious? I’ve had a thing for you for a while now.”

Toni chuckled, “Yeah I guess that was a dumb question, but still though a high school dance?”

“Hey I had nothing to do tonight and its an opportunity to get to spend some time with you.”

Toni just smiled awkwardly, she didn’t even know what to talk about with Tara she was just ready to get this night over with. As her and Tara entered the dance they made there way over to an empty table taking a seat. Neither one of them said a word to each other Tara tried to make conversation here and there, but Toni was in her own head.

“Tiny!” A gruff voice shouted causing the girl to turn around to see her best friend and his date.

“Hey guys.”

“Who’s this?” Josie said looking over at Tara.

“That’s Tara she works at the Whrym she’s the best bartender the Whryms got.”

Tara smiled, “Sweet pea is just being nice.”

Josie chuckled, “Do you guys want to come dance with us?”

Tara looked over at Toni for some kind of answer, but she didn’t get one. “You wanna dance Casanova?”

Toni shook her head, “I’m not much of a dancer, You can go dance with them though.”

Sweet pea and Josie stood awkwardly, “Uh Josie and I are gonna go grab some punch if you change your minds we’ll be on dance floor.”

After Sweet pea and Josie were gone Tara attempted to make more conversation, “So after this do you maybe wanna come back to my place?”

“I don’t know Tara I might just call it a night.”

Tara was going to say something else to the pink haired girl when a certain red head caught Toni’s eye. Toni couldn’t help but stare. She had remember seeing Cheryl in her little get up when she was scrolling on Instagram earlier. Seeing it in person though was a completely different story, Toni thought the girl looked like she had just walked right off the cover of a magazine.

“Hey?” Tara said snapping her fingers in front of Toni’s face.

Toni shook her head knocking herself out of her daze, “Sorry were you saying something?”

“I have been for the past ten minutes, are you good? You just seem very off.”

“I’m fine, this dance just really isn’t my kind of scene.”

Tara raised an eyebrow, “Then why did you come?”

Toni sighed looking back over to where Cheryl was standing talking and laughing with Veronica and Archie. “I honestly don’t know,” was all she could say.

Tara turned to see just what exactly the girl next to her was looking at and when she did she started to put the pieces together, “I see, so let me ask you this. Did you bring me here to make that girl over there jealous?”

Toni turned to look at Tara, “What are you talking about?”

Tara chuckled, “Look Topaz I know we don’t know each other that well and I also know that I am a little older than you. So I’m not hurt if that’s what this is, so you can be honest.”

Toni sighed, “Okay, maybe I did. That wasn’t the only reason though, I invited you because the boys wanted me here and I don’t know why. I didn’t want to come without a date, so I asked you and now I feel like a jerk.”

Tara just laughed, “We’re all jerks sometimes, like I said it’s okay. I mean I’m a little bummed, but one thing I can say is I may not know you that well, although I’ve been sitting here for the past thirty minutes or so watching you stare longingly at that girl over there. I can tell that you really care for her, she’s a lucky girl even if she doesn’t know it yet.”

Toni smiled looking over at Cheryl as she danced with Minerva, “You’re really cool you know that?”

Tara smiled, “I try to be, I do think I’m going to call it a night though.”

Toni turned to look at her, “No you don’t have to go.”

Tara shook her head while grabbing her purse, “I shouldn’t be here and you have a girl standing over there that you need to talk to.”

Toni stood up picking up the keys to her motorbike, “At least let me drive you home?”

“No it’s alright I’ll text my brother to come get me. Just do me a favor though, tell that girl how you feel tonight?”

Toni nodded while giving Tara a quick hug.

“I’ll see ya around Casanova,” The girl said kissing Toni’s cheek.

-

Toni spent the rest of the dance sitting at the table taking swigs out of her flask watching her friends act like idiots. She was trying her hardest to muster up the courage to go say something to Cheryl. After about a few more swigs out of the flask she found herself on the dance floor looking for Cheryl.

“Hey V?” Toni said making her way over to where her and Archie stood talking amongst each other.

“Toni, you look amazing!” The girl said grabbing Toni’s hands.

“Thanks you don’t look so bad yourself, have you seen Cheryl?”

Veronica stood there trying to think back to the last time she had seen the red head, “Last time I saw her she was dancing with Minerva.”

Toni sighed, “If you guys see her will you tell her that I was looking for her?”

“Of course,” Veronica smiled.

“Hey Minveras over there by the punch maybe she knows where she’s at,” Archie said pointing in the dark haired girls direction.

“Thanks Arch,” Toni said making her way over to the girl.

She didn’t even get within five feet of the girl before hearing a conversation Minerva was having with one of her friends that Toni wishes she didn’t hear.

“So you and Blossom?” A guy with greasy brown hair said taking a sip of his punch.

Minerva just nodded, “Dude she’s like the hottest girl at this school I can’t believe you bagged that.”

Minerva just chuckled, “This is only for tonight I’m just hoping she’ll give me some before the nights over. I’ve been doing everything I can hoping that she’ll let me tap that tonight.”

The boy laughed, “You dog!!”

At that point Toni had enough, she cleared her throat causing Minerva to turn around. “Hey, Toni right?”

Toni didn’t say anything instead she just kept staring at the girl in hopes that maybe she could make the girls head explode.

“Got a problem there short stack?” Minerva said taking a sip of her punch.

“Yeah my problem is you, Cheryl is amazing and she isn’t some object you can just use for one night and then toss to the side. So my advice to you is you and your little friend that looks like he hasn’t washed his hair in some years now need to leave like now.”

“Or what?” Minerva said stepping closer to Toni till their faces were inches away.

“What’s going on here?” A way too familiar voice said causing Toni to turn around.

“Cher, she-“ Toni went to say.

Cheryl put her hand up, “I heard enough.”

Toni looked at the girl confused, “You did?”

“Cheryl your friend is crazy she came over here accusing me of horrible things and then she got in my face,” Minvera said trying to grab the red heads hand.

Cheryl pulled away, “I’m not stupid Minerva I heard enough of that conversation to know that you’re a liar and you certainly will not be getting anything from me and you can lose my number.”

“Cheryl come on.”

“Go to hell Minerva.”

“Whatever you weren’t worth my time,” The girl said before walking away.

Toni was doing everything she could to keep herself from running after Minerva and socking her right in the jaw. Or at least she was until she felt a hand grab hers.

“Thank you,” Cheryl said.

Toni turned to look at the girl, “Are you okay?”

Cheryl shrugged, “I mean it’s not like I had feelings for her.”

“Do you want me to take you home?”

Cheryl nodded, “I’d like that.”

Toni smiled, “Let’s get the hell out of here.”

-

“Thanks again,” Cheryl said as Toni helped her off of her motorbike.

“Anytime Bombshell you know I’ll always be your knight in shining armor.”

Cheryl chuckled, “and you know I’ll always be your damsel in distress.”

“I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

“See you at school?”

“See ya at school,” Toni said about to walk off she was about half way down the steps when Cheryl stopped her.

“Toni?”

She turned to look at Cheryl, “Yeah?”

“When are we going to be honest with each other about how we both feel?”

Hearing the girl say that had Toni at a loss for words. She almost swore for a second that she was dreaming.

“I’m honestly tired of this whole will they won’t they thing that we have going on. I have never felt this way with anyone, I’ve never felt more safe than I do when I’m with you, I’ve never felt more happy than I do when I’m with you. You make me forget about every horrible thing that goes on in this house of horrors,” Cheryl said pointing to the house behind her.

“You make me feel alive, more alive than I’ve ever felt before. Toni I think I’m in love with you.”

Toni felt like she could faint, she went to say something, but she felt like instead of telling Cheryl how she feels she’ll just show her. Cheryl was still standing at the front door and Toni wasted no time running back up the steps. When she made it to where Cheryl was standing before Toni knew it Cheryl’s lips were on hers. It felt like something straight out of a movie Toni swore that if she pulled away and turned around there would be fireworks going off behind them.

“Wow,” Cheryl said as they both pulled away to catch their breaths.

Toni smiled, “I think I’m in love with you too.”

What happened next wasn’t the reaction Toni excepting, “What took so long?” Cheryl said socking the girl in her arm.

“Ouch!” Toni yelped rubbing her arm.

“I’ve been waiting for you to say that for the longest time, I was honestly starting to think you might not feel the way I do”

“I was nervous Cher, I didn’t think you liked me like that and I didn’t want to jeopardize our friendship.”

“I get that because that’s a lot of why I didn’t want say anything to you.”

“So If you felt this way for me this whole time why did you say yes to Minerva?”

“I guess because I had been hoping that you would ask me and you never did and like I said I was scared you might not feel the way I thought you did.”

Toni chuckled.

Cheryl looked at the girl confused, “What’s so funny?”

“What’s funny is before Minerva asked you when we were in the cafeteria and you were asking me who I was going to take, I was literally right about to ask you until she interrupted.”

“No shit?”

“No shit.” Toni said shaking her head.

“Now I feel like an idiot.”

“You’re not an idiot,” Toni said moving some of Cheryl’s hair behind her ear.

“A little bit,” Cheryl said wrapping her arms around Toni’s neck.

Toni just shook her head resting her hand on Cheryl’s cheek before leaning in till her lips were once again met with Cheryl’s.
