Outside The After Party

Summary:

Mason meets Pacifica for the first time. (Set in Double Dipper ; after the karaoke battle)

Work Text:

Sat on the back exit’s steps, Mason drank from a can of Pitt Cola as he reread the page about Zombies in his Journal. After the ‘Norman Incident’, he’d learned not to throw around supernatural claims, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t continue to speculate on the strange people in the Town. Zombies disguised themselves as teenagers and Robbie smelt awful, he was a typical emo, and his taste of music was too loud, let alone the fact that his so called “parents” (aka two of the happiest people in Gravity Falls) were in the Funeral Business! It only made sense for him to be a Zombie, or at least another supernatural being like… like a Vampire — of course! It was a shame he didn’t have the other two Journals, or else he’d be out sniffing like a werewolf to prove it to be true. God, Mabel would be so excited to meet a vampire—

Mason sighed, shaking his head and breaking out of his tangent. After teaching his miming minions about humanity and the Earth, they had decided to play tricks on the party guests and Mason gave up trying to round them back into the printing room when he saw two clones stealing Valentino’s bike. From that moment, he became distracted with disgust for Wendy’s idiotic boyfriend, and came outside to calm down. Only, he didn’t calm down, and came fixated on proving how awful Valentino was.

A gush of wind caught Mason’s back as the door swung open, revealing a blonde girl with a purple blouse and an irritated expression. She huffed, disapprovingly, when she saw him, but her eyes softened as they met his gaze. “Aren’t you going to scoot over?” She snapped.

Mason sighed, moving along the step to give the girl some room, and she sat down beside him. He blushed when she noticed the Journal, but she didn’t laugh. Instead, as he tried to close it, she stopped his hand, and held it in her own.

“And I thought I knew all the freaks in this town.” She murmured. It should’ve been an insult, and yet… Mason wasn’t mad at all. “Why are you at this shithouse anyway? I thought Nerds weren’t invited to parties.” Mason shrugged. “You like the undead, huh?” She continued, ignoring his silence and scanning over the page, “I’d laugh at you, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were zombies in Gravity Falls. You’d never guess who kidnapped me when I was ten and they weren’t even the worst monsters that have come after me or my family.”

Mason gasped — the Gnomes! Quickly, he swiped her hand away from the Journal and turned to where he’d wrote about his and Mabel’s encounter with the gnomes.

“You’ve met them, too!” Pacifica exclaimed. “People thought I was a right psycho when I told them, but I knew I didn’t dream it!” She laughed. A beam spread across her face, highlighting her cheeks and banishing any sourness from before. “They tried with your sister, too, huh? Is that why you’re at this party? To make sure she’s okay?” Mason didn’t reply. “You don’t talk much, do you?” He nodded and Pacifica blew her fringe out of her eyes. “Whatever, that’s fine by me — no one talks to me, anyway.” She told him.

A black car appeared within the void of darkness, parking in front of them, and Pacifica sighed, shaking her head and standing up. “Well… that’s my ride. Until, next time, Sixers.” She smiled over her shoulder, giving him a small wave, and Mason mimicked the gesture as she opened the passenger door. The girl disappeared as quickly as she came and Mason hadn’t gotten her name. He wondered if he would see her, again.
