"cynophilist" {seungjin}

Summary:

{contains: animal hybrid, copious amounts of fluff}
Cynophilist; a person who loves dogs

Notes:

Kind of a second part to “ailurophile” but it isn’t entirely necessary to read the first part. It just provides a bit more context for Minho and Hana.

     A muffled groan sounded from where Hyunjin had buried his face within his hands. He'd invited Minho (and by association, Hana) over that evening to explain the entire ordeal, but the situation somehow made even less sense. When he peeked through his slender fingers, he caught a glimpse of Minho sandwiched between the two hybrids. Hana clung to his arm and was glaring daggers into Minnie, but the latter was oblivious. He just sat there wagging his tail and playing with every single item he could find within his vicinity. It was as if the world was brand new and he seemingly found delight in everything around him.

     The sight would be laughable if he wasn't so perplexed and consumed by his own disbelief. How could something this ridiculous happen to them, of all people - two plain ol', peon-level accountants? As far as the universe's totem pole was concerned, the men were pretty far down... So why were they the ones chosen to witness such a bizarre phenomenon?

     When Minnie's floppy ears perked up at the sound of the bell around the feline's neck rattle, he innocently reached across Minho's personal space to inspect the fascinating object. Hana hissed and swiped at his hand - ears flattened and sharp teeth bared. Minnie recoiled in horror and tucked his tail between his legs, pouting with his big puppy-dog eyes at the prickly male he wished so desperately to befriend. The man between the two scolded Hana, waggling his finger in his face as if he was still the little fluff ball of a kitten he had been before. "But Hana doesn't like dogs. They are scary and chase Hana," he whined. It was his turn to pout now; he tuned his cuteness up to 1,000 and pushed his bottom lip out as his amber eyes stared up at Minho though his thick lashes.

     Hyunjin audibly gasped when his friend kissed the hybrid right in front of him. "What are you doing?!" All three men on the couch were startled by the abrupt outburst. Minho chuckled awkwardly and rubbed at a nonexistent itch on his nape, suddenly finding the pillow on his lap to be extremely interesting. He'd conveniently left out the true nature of their relationship when he retold the events, but was too distracted by the hybrids (okay, mostly Hana) trying to fight like literal cats and dogs on either side of him that he forgot to hide it. Minnie, now curious, eyed the pillow and reached out to touch wherever Minho was so thoroughly examining, apparently forgetting what had happened when he'd encroached on their space just moments prior. Hana tightened his already death grip on his human's arm in response; if he had fur, it'd probably be bristled by now, but he was trying his best to be good for his human.

     "Your behaviour is so... Ugh!" The box-blonde across from them suddenly cried out and stood from his spot, stomping away to the kitchen to get some water. Minho was right in assuming that if his eyes hadn't witnessed the situation firsthand, he would never believe it. But, unfortunately for him, they had - so there was no possibility of denying that this was reality. His sweet pup had transformed into a humanoid hybrid and not only that, Minnie could change back to his old form... Well, if he knew how he was doing it, that is. Instead, it seemed to happen randomly and although he'd seen it happen a few times already, it was just as jarring as the first time. One moment Hyunjin would be fretting about what to do with the (thankfully no longer bare) man in his home, then next thing he knew, a golden retriever pup would prance up to him with the remnants of his clothing stuck over his little head.

     After a few minutes of recollecting himself, the blonde returned to the small living room. Minnie immediately brightened and popped up off the chair, his tail waggling excitedly and eyes sparkling. There was no denying that the dog-turned-man was adorable, so rather than continue trying to, Hyunjin cautiously opened his arms and braced himself for the body barreling it's way toward him. Sure enough, Minnie was soon in his embrace, peppering affectionate kisses over the slightly taller male's chin and cheeks. "Ack! I get it already! I was literally only gone for like ten minutes, but I've missed you too, Minnie," he giggled while he attempted (and inevitably failed) to evade the canine's love.

     "Really? Daddy missed Minnie?" he asked, face alight from his overwhelming happiness. He was practically vibrating from his giddiness of being talked to like before, since his owner had been unintentionally cold toward him while trying to process.

     Hyunjin shuddered and placed his hand over Minnie's face, putting a temporary hold on the man's affection, "Now what you're not gonna do is refer to me as that. Just call me Hyunjin, okay?" Minnie nodded quickly, repeating the name to himself a few times before grinning.

     Minho 'aww'd, which earned him a brief glare from the hybrid that had now possessively crawled his way into the man's lap. "No," he pouted, crossing his arms over his loosely clothed chest and puffing up his chubby cheeks. His human knit his brows together confusedly.

     "'No' what?"

     "Mast- Oh, um... Min can only think Hana is cute. No dumb puppies," he stated sourly with a bratty 'hmpf', his jealously clearly fueling his baseless animosity toward the other hybrid currently clinging to Hyunjin. Minho laughed and tugged him into a nearly crushingly tight hug, making sure to place plenty of kisses across his freckled cheeks and nose.

     Hyunjin cleared his throat as he pried himself away from the puppy-like male. "So... What do we do now, then?" he questioned openly.

     "Ooh, ooh! Minnie knows, Minnie knows!" He shouted suddenly, tugging on the hem of Hyunjin's shirt persistently. The blonde carefully pried the hybrid's fingers off the expensive fabric and flattened it down before asking what they should do. "Go for a walk!" Minnie suggested eagerly, tail quickly swishing from side-to-side like a motorized propeller. Hyunjin shot Minho an inquisitive look.

     The other man grinned and patted Hana's back so he'd relinquish his place on Minho's thighs. Once Hana (begrudgingly) clambered off, he stood and picked the loose beanie they'd used to hide Hana's ears during the walk over from the accent table beside the sofa. "I think that's a wonderful idea, Minnie! We'll just need a hat to cover your ears and a long jacket for your tail. Think that'd okay?"

     Minnie nodded without even a second thought before he, much to Hana's dismay, rushed to give the man a big hug (though he did spare the kisses). With that, Hyunjin went to retrieve the necessary garments from his extensive closet.

     The pair of humans (and Hana) trailed behind Minnie as he ran ahead, checking out everything he could and happily greeting every person he met. His smile turned out to be infectious - even to the brooding blonde at Minho's side. After waving a pleasant farewell to the couple and baby he'd been speaking to, Minnie bounded his way back to the group. "Look - a park! Come on!" He shouted eagerly before boldly grabbing hold of Hana's wrist and pulling him toward the nearby swing set. The feline sent a pleading look over his shoulder that read 'help me' toward his human, but Minho just laughed and blew a kiss. The pair of humans claimed the nearby bench, sighing as they settled against the backrest. Hyunjin slouched and kicked at the crunchy leaves at his feet, a permanent scowl on his face ever since they'd left his home.

    Minho suddenly elbowed Hyunjin to grab his attention. "What's up? Why are you being moody?" He inquired jovially, a goofy grin on his rose-tinged face. It was just cold enough outside that the wind bit at their exposed noses and cheeks.

    "What do you mean? This is a lot to handle. We basically have kids now," he grumbled as he sank further into his oversized knitted scarf. He wouldn't admit it out loud, but he really, really wasn't fond of kids and never wanted any. Getting a puppy was his alternative, but obviously that didn't play out the way he expected it to. The hybrids may have been adults physically, but as far as he was concerned, they were basically children.

    Minho frowned and rotated on the bench to face him before speaking again. "That's not true. I guess I can't really speak for Minnie, but Hana is actually really smart and does well at anything he tries... And even if he's not the best at expressing himself yet, I know that he understands complex ideas and emotions... They're not immature, they're just inexperienced with this whole... 'human thing' and need to be taught."

    "So like kids, then," Hyunjin pouted stubbornly. Minho sighed and rolled his eyes at his best friend's bad mood. He knew that the situation would take a lot of adjustment for them both, but the other man also had a bad tendency to approach things negatively without giving them a chance. Minho suddenly laughed as he looked away from Hyunjin and saw what the other two were up to. Hana was pushing Minnie on the swing and looking like he hated his life, whereas the canine was absolutely ecstatic to be swinging so high.

    Minho took his grumpy friend's hand and pulled him up out of his seat, earning an indignant whine. "Shush, let's go play with them. It seems fun," he urged before letting go and jogging across the dried leaves and wood chips to meet up with the duo. Hana swiftly abandoned Minnie and hugged Minho, then pulled away and, wearing an almost cartoonish pout, slugged him in the bicep for letting the canine drag him away.

    The lone man watched from afar as Hana was ushered onto the swing prior to Minho beginning to push him gently from the front, being careful to not get kicked as he stole a kiss whenever they met. The blonde inwardly cringed at the couple's public lovey dovey-ness, but trudged through the wood chips so that he could join them. Soon enough, he was giggling along with Minnie as they took turns pushing each other and running around the rest of the playground. It may've appeared silly for four grown men to have such lighthearted fun playing around on something initially built with children in mind, but in that moment, they really didn't care. They were enjoying time with each other, and that's all that mattered.

    That is, until Minnie came out from his hide-and-seek spot on four legs and considerably furrier. Hyunjin gasped and glanced around to make sure no one saw what had happened after the golden puppy ran up to him, happily yipping away. Explaining away how a man went behind a tree and came out as a puppy would be difficult. Minho and Hana retrieved the discarded clothing behind the tree and joined the two, appearing a bit befuddled over what had happened. "Um, we need to hurry back before he changes or he's going to get arrested for public indecency," Hyunjin paled. He picked Minnie up and the four of them hurried back to his apartment, which was thankfully not too far from the park. He set the puppy down at the bowls he used when in this form.

    "Hana can't do that," the feline mused, crouching down to inspect Minnie as he lapped away at the water. "How does he do that?" He suddenly asked Hyunjin, staring up at him with wide eyes filled with astonishment.

    The man shrugged and knelt beside him so he could stroke over the puppy's back. "He doesn't know, either. It just happens," he stated, chuckling a bit when Minnie started hiccuping from drinking too fast. Hana reached out and gently patted his little back, cooing as he did. He then carefully picked him up and set him onto his lap, purring as Minnie played with his tail. Minho and Hyunjin shared a shocked look, but didn't say anything as to not risk ruining the tender moment. It seemed that playing together helped them bond and shed the rivalry they'd had previously.

    Minho quietly scooted in behind Hana, wrapping his arms around him and watching their interaction over his shoulder. The precious moment tugged at the humans' heartstrings... Up until the split second that they had a fully sized, naked man spread across their laps and the contents of the bowls spilled all over the hardwood floor and Minnie. Hana practically leapt away and hissed, eyeing the man suspiciously.

    "You were literally just getting along!" Minho cried out.

    "Minnie isn't cute anymore," Hana explained simply, eyes narrowed at the wet, dog food covered canine mere feet from him. Tiny Minnie = good, big Minnie = bad, he reasoned internally.

    Hyunjin groaned prior to helping a very confused Minnie off the floor. "I'll help him wash up and change. Can you get the floor?"

    By late evening, the bunch were curled up on the rug in front of the TV after having ordered and eaten takeout. Minho and Hyunjin were playing video games while Hana was sleeping soundly in his human's lap against his chest, and Minnie was snoozing with his head on Hyunjin's thigh. Sleepy to the point of hardly being able to keep their eyes open, the two shut off the console and TV, instead focusing on petting their respective hybrids. Minnie shifted in his sleep and peeked an eye open at Hyunjin. He took the hand stroking over his hair into his own and smiled softly as he shut his eyes again.

    "I love you," he mumbled sweetly and nuzzled against the top of his hand affectionately. Hyunjin inexplicably blushed and looked to Minho for help, but he had already buried his face into the crook of Hana's neck and presumably fallen asleep.

    It took a few minutes to build the courage, but once he had, he cleared his throat and leant down, pressing a chaste kiss to Minnie's temple. "I love you, too," Hyunjin whispered, garnering a soft snore from the canine. He released a sharp breath out of his nose in mild amusement before pulling a blanket over Minnie and leaning his head back against the sofa cushion.

    As he stared at the ceiling panels and dozed off to the rhythmic breathing and purring coming from those around him, Hyunjin decided that maybe this peculiar arrangement wasn't such a bad thing after all.
