The sea welcomed Steve’s body. It pulled him in and hugged him tightly. Despite the cold, it felt like one of his mother's hugs.
He didn't mind the water. He didn't mind the cold. He felt at home here, safe. Everything around him disappeared. It was just him and the depths of the sea.
Darkness and wetness surrounded him. It spoke to him. It caressed him. It preserved him.

70 years later he missed the sea. He continued to long for it, he continued to have this sense of being called home. One day he'd come back, he told himself.
