Work Text:
“Kaz,” she breathes, soft as the touch of his mouth on her skin, and it pulls him back from the brink, yanks him free of the harbor, of the bloated horror that waits there, floating on the surface. Because it sounds just like he’d imagined it might and at the same time, so different, a new twist in their story; there’s a burning need in the smoldering ashes of Inej’s voice that he’s never heard before - never let himself hear, he corrects, clinging to the last of his ruthlessness even as the whisper of her voice strips it away.
“Don’t stop,” she says, her head tilting back, the column of her throat bare and alive, an arc of trust inviting him in, and he accepts.
