“You fucking IDIOT” Kaiser swore under his breath
“Oh fuck off, your voice is making me sick”
~~~
Naturally speaking, the human body can only be pushed so far till it cracks, in such cases it can either shut down completely or retaliate. In the case of Isagi Yoichi, his chose the latter.
The match between Bastard Munchen and Manshine City had just come to a satisfying end, Yukimiya rising from the dead to show his worth in the team. There were celebrations going all around from the players on the bench to some of the starters. Kaiser, the main star of the team, was still dumbfounded over the outcome, but it was drowned out in the cheers that were erupting.
Yet for some reason, instead of being happy, Isagi felt like the world was closing in on him. His head was throbbing, like there was a tiny person with a hammer smashing the inside of his skull repeatedly. All he could hear were muffled sounds, unable to make out anything that was being said. The louder the sounds got the worse the pressure was in his ears. Were the lights always this bright? He thought to himself, surely there was a way to dim them…
From all that was happening around him, Isagi could barely register the fact that BM’s Kaiser was talking to him. Talking…? Yelling? Was he shouting something… he could not figure it out for the life of him.
He wanted to respond, he really did, but the second he opened his mouth he felt like he was choking. Suddenly, it was hard to breathe, his lungs refusing to take in any oxygen.
“Isa….Sagi.. ISAGI”
His temporary daze was cut short by Kaiser shaking him by the shoulders, looking up, Isagi could see a concerned look on his face.
Huh, that’s not like you Kaiser, I’m the enemy remember, why are you looking at me like that.
“Y-Your nose!” the blonde yelled, and it was then that Isagi thought to check just what Kaiser was going on about. He bought a hand up to his nose, feeling something wet touch his fingers. It was…red? Was this blood? Why was it dripping all over the grass? Was this coming from him?
“Kai…ser” he managed to mutter, before losing all the strength in his legs. “Damnit!” He thought to himself, he couldn’t pass out NOW.
“ SHIT-” the blonde yelled out, immediately extending his arms to catch his teammate midair.
At this point, people were gathering, both BD and Manshine alike. That was a given though, as they used to be his teammates at some point.
“W-what happened?” Chigiri asked, pushing through the crowd to close the distance.
“I think he overexerted himself,” Nagi gasped, having been one of the first to gather.
“That weapon of his was too much for his body” Kaiser declared, keeping the boy in his arms.
Isagi was honestly feeling worse every second that passed. Not only was Kaiser all over him like some leech, but the voices around him were starting to make him nauseous. As much as he tried to close his eyes and breath, his so-called “Ability” that he had refused to power off, and it was driving him crazy. Everything was louder, brighter, more intense, even the feeling of a finger brush past his arm made him want to curl up into a ball. What made matters worse was his nose continuing to bleed, making him feel extremely lightheaded.
He couldn’t take it anymore.
He just wanted it to stop.
Something that would make his body stop hating him.
He was sorry, he really was, he should have known his limits and yet, he was selfish.
Kaiser knew it would take some time for a medic to arrive, and the state his teammate was in was a matter of great concern. Seeing as he was barely tired from their game, the blonde opted to take matters into his own hands.
“Sorry about this.” He said, as he slipped one arm behind Isagi’s knees, the other supporting his back. With a quick motion he was up on his feet, carrying Isagi in his arms.
A whimper could be heard coming from him as he tightly grasped Kaiser’s jersey, looking up at him with wide eyes. His brain was still in calculating mode, unable to stop it from processing everything around him.
“You fucking IDIOT” Kaiser swore under his breath.
“Oh fuck off, your voice is making me sick” Isagi muttered, gripping his jersey even tighter as he fought off the urge to throw up. The blood from his nose had made its way over to his mouth, and despite using his free hand to try and cover it, all he could sense was the metallic taste on his tongue.
“Turn it off, Isagi,” Kaiser whispered.
“I-I can’t…” Isagi whined.
“Tch, I guess this’ll do for now” the blonde deduced, extending the arm behind Isagi’s back all the way up to his face, completely covering his eyes, blocking out any form of light and letting his Ability forcefully shut down. He could feel Isagi visibly relax, his arm dropping to the side as he eventually lost consciousness.
“What a bother…” Kaiser thought to himself, as he made his way over to the infirmary, a large group of players followed right behind.
It was not a high class facility for nothing though, as Ego had the best medical team on hand in case of emergencies.
His consciousness was slowly coming back to him, Isagi Yoichi slowly opened his eyes, only to see…nothing?
“Eh?” he exclaimed, noticing it was only darkness around him, were the lights off? Was his vision gone?
"oh, du bist wach" he could hear a familiar voice say
[Oh you’re awake]
“Huh?” he responded, realising something was not registering, he moved his head towards the source trying to pinpoint where it was coming from
"Isagu, du bist wach richtig?" another voice joined the mix, one that he did not want to hear
[Isagi? You’re awake right?]
“Tch..”
"Du hast mich wohl nicht gerade mit deiner Zunge angeschnalzt!"
[You did not just click your tongue at me!]
He soon realised what was different about it, he didn’t have his headphones on. Isagi had enough strength in him to raise one arm up, trying to point at his ear, hoping it got the message across.
“Ah” the two realised.
"Er verstehe uns nicht"
[He can’t understand us]
"Kein Wunder"
[No wonder]
He could hear the chair creak as one of the figures got up from his seat, walking up to Isagi’s bedside table and picking up the discarded headphones. He tried to reach for them to put them on himself but a rather aggressive hand slapped his away.
"Lass mich das machen"
[Let me do it]
Maybe it was his drowsiness still lingering, or his ears didn’t work properly at the time, but Isagi had fully convinced himself that he knew who the person near him was. As he felt them putting the headphones into his ear, he decided now would be a good time to remove the towel that was covering his eyes. The light should be okay for him now and he’d just need a few seconds to adjust. Yet when he reached over to pull the item off his head, blinking a few times to really register, he was stunned to find a strand of blue within his line of vision, a wide eyed Kaiser staring right back at him.
“You’re not Master”
“Why the fuck would you think I am?”
Isagi was not wrong to expect Noel Noa to be in the room with them, as he was the second voice he heard. However, he remained in his seat the entire time. Watching the banter between the two starters.
“Why are you here, Kaiser?”
“How cruel, and here I was your saviour!”
“I didn’t need saving”
“Yoichi please, the absolute state you were in was no joke”
“Hmph”
Isagi hummed a little, well in this case he might as well take advantage of this.
“Help me up” he said, lifting both arms up to Kaiser
“Huh? You can do that yourself” the German complained
“I’m sick, remember?”
“You slept for 16 hours!”
“I’m still a little sore~”
Kaiser sighed, realising this was a losing battle, since when was his teammate this playful around him? Was he feeling smug about beating him, or taking advantage of his current kindness? Sure it might have been Kaiser’s fault that Isagi went above and beyond on himself, but he ought to have known his own limits too!
“Don’t you dare tell anyone about this'' the blonde swore, reaching over and grabbing both of Isagi’s wrists. With a little nudge he was pulled into a sitting position, with Noel adjusting the pillows so they were more comfortable to lean on.
“Thank you, Michael~”
‘Disgusting”
Noel had informed them that as per the doctor’s instructions, it was a strict three days of bed rest. While it was just a strong migraine and overexertion, they wanted to make sure everything was fine before he returned to the field.
“He kind of has a fever” Kaiser noted, staring at the thermometer left on the side table
“I feel fine, really”
“The numbers don’t lie, I’ll go ask for some medication”
“Master, why is he being so nice?”
“Guilt, probably.”
As the days went on, Isagi received one visitor after the other, old Team Z members made sure to check up on him, apart from Kunigami. His Blue Lock teammates in Bastard München stopped by regularly; as well as Nagi, Reo, and surprisingly Rin.
“Oi, Lukewarm, don’t you dare pull that stunt again, we still have our match coming up” he said, a lethal aura emanating from around him.
“Hey hey, don’t forget the rest of us~” Kaiser teased, not wanting to be left out of this apparent rivalry”
“Shut it, half-baked, this is all your fault”
“You kids seriously have no tact do you??”
“Isagi~ how long is this guy gonna stick around?” Bachira asked, glaring at Kaiser from his spot on the bed.
“Isagi, how long will this guy hog half your space?” Kaiser shot back. Bachira simply stuck his tongue out in response.
“Guys please don’t fight..” Yoichi replied, trying to diffuse the tension.
His former teammate had decided to hang out with him after dinnertime, opting to study a bit of English while they were at it. Since Isagi was banned from any physical activity till his fever was gone and his body recovered, a little mental exercise wouldn’t hurt. And yet…
“Your pronunciation is all wrong! The H is silent here”
“How am I supposed to know that!”
“How long have you been learning English? Can’t even spell your name right”
“Well so-rry~ Mr. Multilingual Genius”
Bachira was honestly tempted to remove both their headphones the more Kaiser intruded on their study session, the less they could understand from him the better. Yet, when they tried to do so, he found other ways to be annoying. None of it was done with ill intent though, Bachira knew that, he could tell there was some guilt masked under it as he continued to bring them tea or reminded Isagi to take his medicine.
Isagi was discharged a few days later as predicted.
“He stole my seat,” Kurona voiced.
“I wanted to sit across from him…” Yukimiya added.
And yet, as the two walked up to the table, lunch trays in hand, they found an unexpected duo sitting with Isagi.
“Oh, I didn’t see your name on it?” Kaiser joked.
“If anything, a change is nice every now and then,” said Ness, signature smile not leaving his face.
“Please leave!” an irritated Isagi muttered.
Somehow in the past couple of days, the two had gotten a little close, not because Isagi was unwell, but because Kaiser was tasked with making sure he didn’t overdo it with training. Sure he was against it initially, but Noel had informed him that since he didn’t need it that much, his spot amongst the starters hardly in danger, it wouldn’t hurt to look out for another teammate. Even if Isagi was to sit out the next match, as per Ego’s instructions.
“When he said keep an eye on him, he only meant training y’know?” Nanase stated, taking a bite of his rice.
“Oh yeah? And how will I know if he finished all his food?’ a smug Kaiser fired back.
“He has a point..” they all thought to themselves.
