Just A Plaything

Summary:

Kevin sees Jolie and immediately wants her. But he’s not exactly the best person to date.

Work Text:

The first time Kevin saw her, his jaw dropped to the floor. She was stunning. How he hadn’t noticed her before, he didn’t have a clue. How could he miss that beauty?

She had dark skin and freckles across her face, curly black hair that was well kept, plush and glossy pink lips that were, and a figure that beat anyone else in their class. She seemed like an easy catch.

There was something in him that wanted her to be his. Like she drew him in with just her presence alone.

And he was committed to making that happen.

X

Her name was Jolie. Something Kevin learned after about a week. He kept sitting closer and closer to her each day until he was able to see her name written on her papers. Some would say it was creepy, but Kevin didn’t care. He needed another trophy to add to his collection.

Kevin didn’t plan on keeping her for long, anyway. Just have a little fun with a new plaything.

What could go wrong?

X

This girl was playing hard to get, Kevin was sure of it.

He had to put triple the effort in to even get Jolie to look his way. At first, Kevin was hurt. This was the first time a girl wasn’t impressed by what he had to offer.

The first few times he talked to her, Jolie pretended to not even know who he was, which was practically impossible. Everyone knew who he was. Kevin was one of the most popular guys in their grade. She must’ve been stupid if she thought he would fall for her stupid facade. Was she living under a rock or something?

Either way, the fact that she wouldn’t let Kevin take what he wanted so easily just made him crave her attention even more.

Jolie had him wrapped around her little finger without even trying.

“I’m telling you guys,” Kevin chatted to his friends in art class, “This girl is a knockout! She’s something else.”

The other’s asked questions about how he was gonna win her over, which he happily went on about as he balanced a basketball on his finger.

“She’s an easy catch. Just gotta butter her up a bit and she’ll be as good as mine-!”

The basketball tipped off his finger. Kevin tried to grab it midair, but ended up nudging it even farther away. It bounced on the floor and hit some random kid’s weird sculpture, putting a big dent into it.

“Yo, what the hell?!” The guy screamed.

It was kinda funny. The sculpture wasn’t even that good, the guy could just make it again. Not a problem. He laughed along with his friends, “Oh, sorry man, guess I should’ve been more careful.” Kevin grabbed his ball and put it on his shoulder. “Whoops.”

He kept going on about this Jolie girl, the look on that guy’s face still red. But Kevin wasn’t worried. What was that rando gonna do?

X

It started off slow. First, asking to borrow a pencil. Complimenting her outfit or makeup. Trying to make small talk.

But as time went on, Kevin started to approach her outside of class. Exchanging smiles in the halls, giving each other quick “Hey there”s and “What’s up?”s when they had time to talk between classes.

Soon, those small interactions turned into talking before and after school. Hanging out at the park or getting ice cream together. Going out late and sneaking out of their homes to see each other. Date nights and making out in the backseat of Kevin’s car.

When Kevin did eventually ask her out, it went better than expected.

He had convinced Jolie to sneak out again. She was gradually becoming more okay with the idea of leaving the house when she was supposed to be sleeping. Kevin remembered how much of a pain in the ass it was to get her to sneak out the first time. But she caved, like always.

They were cuddling in his backseats, enjoying the view of the night sky. It was the perfect place to ask. “Hey, Jo?”

Jolie hummed, not taking her eyes off the stars above.

He grabbed her hand, trying to reel her in even more so she would have no choice but to give him the answer he wanted. “I want to make things official between us.”

That did make Jolie tear her gaze away from the sky, looking at him with her perfect eyes Kevin loved so much. He saw her cheeks start to flush.

Kevin continued on, confidence as high as ever. “Do you want to be my girlfriend?”

“Oh my god!” Jolie screamed. She wrapped her arms around his neck, holding him tight and pressing her body against his. “Yes!”

They held each other for the rest of the night, giving each other a few kisses here and there.

It took a few months, but he got what he wanted in the end. Kevin had her wrapped around his finger this time. And Jolie was none the wiser.

X

Okay, he knew what he wanted when he first saw Jolie. Just a quick little thing to entertain himself.

But the more Kevin went out with her, the less he wanted to break up. He definitely liked her. A shit ton.

So he didn’t.

But he was still needing something new. Something exciting. Just to cleanse his pallet until he got tired of that.

There was no way Jolie would let that happen, though. She was crazy. So Kevin needed to do this as secretly as possible and make sure she wouldn’t dump him.

And he knew the perfect girl for the job.

X

Whelp, he was too deep to go back. Not that he wanted to. Not at all.

Kevin felt no remorse as he made out with Mariah behind the school during lunch hour. He managed to get some free time since Jolie had something to do for a class. She probably told him what it was, but Kevin had other things on his mind.

It was refreshing to get some action with someone other than his girlfriend. Jolie could be boring sometimes, not wanting to go further with him. Just kissing. Kevin needed more than that. So, technically, this was her fault.

Both Kevin and Mariah were too into the kiss that neither of them heard the clicking of a camera.

X

It took no time at all for Jolie to find out. It was barely a few hours.

He found Jolie in the library after school. He tried to talk to her, “Hey love, what’s up?

“Love, my ass!!!” Jolie smacked him like a crazy bitch. What was her deal? “You freaking liar! I’m so stupid for trusting you!!!”

“What are you talking about?!” Kevin yelled right back at her, “I didn’t do anything!”

Jolie pulled something out of her pocket, “Oh yeah?! Then what’s this, Huh?!”

It took a moment for Kevin to realize what she was holding. But when he did, he was furious, “What?! Where did you get that?!”

“That doesn’t matter! What matters is that you cheated on me!!!” Jolie fumed, “And to top it off, it was with stupid Mariah Blake!”

“Hey, don’t call her that!” Kevin defended.

This was turning into a screaming match. “You’re just the worst, do you know that?!” Jolie added.

She started walking away and Kevin called out to her, “Wait, where are you going?!”

“I’m going to expose your cheating ass to the whole school!” Jolie screamed over her shoulder.

“What?!” Kevin couldn’t let that happen. It would ruin his entire reputation, “Oh, hell no!” He snatched the picture out of her grasp and started running.

Jolie gasped, “Give it back, you asshole!!!” She gave chase, trying to get the picture back.

“Bite me, you snake!” Kevin teased. And she did. Jolie grabbed his arm and chomped on it as hard as he could. “Agh!!!”

“You idiot!” She screamed. “Just give it to me!!!”

Kevin was trying his hardest to get his arm out of her hands. “No! I’ll never-!!”

He startled back when someone popped up in front of him, somehow hanging from the ceiling. He looked familiar for some reason, but Kevin couldn’t figure out why.

“Haha!!!” The guy laughed, “It never gets old!”

“Mother-!!” Kevin was seeing red. He needed to get out of here. And quick. “What are you doing here, loser?!”

“I’m getting my revenge!”

Kevin didn’t know what he was talking about. Why was he always stuck dealing with these crazy people? “Revenge?!”

“Really? You don’t remember?” The mystery guy questioned. “You ruined my dragon in art class!”

He really didn’t know what he was talking about. But the dragon must’ve been unremarkable if Kevin couldn’t remember. “What?! I don’t remember doing that-?”

All of a sudden, the mystery guy swung down, kicking Kevin in the face which made him fall to the ground. “Come on, use your head!!!”

“Nice move there, Ken.” Jolie commented. So Ken was his name.

This Ken guy got on top of him, kneeling on his head and pinning Kevin to the ground. “We make a good team, Julia.”

“Jolie,” She corrected.

“Close enough.”

It started to click in Kevin’s mind. “Wait, what?!” He shoved Ken’s face away, trying to get back up, “So you took the picture?!”

“Ding ding ding!” Ken tried reaching for the photo, “Now hand it over!”

“No!”

“Come on, dude, don’t make me-”

“Over my dead body, you weirdo!” Kevin screamed.

Ken pulled back for a second, just looking at Kevin. “Alright, you asked for it!” Then, he brought his fist back and planted a punch to his cheek. It made Kevin slide backwards. “Hahaha! I’ve always wanted to do that! That’s for ruining my art project!”

Kevin still had no idea what art project he was talking about, but he felt hands pulling at his hair, “And this is for cheating on me!!!” Jolie screamed right into his ears.

He saw Ken’s hand dart out to grab the picture. Kevin snatched his away, getting it away from his reach. “You suckers!!!”

All of them were basically on top of each other, all of them trying to get the photo. “Come on, give us the picture! Give it to us!” Jolie zapped his hand, “Give it back!”

The photo flew across the floor, landing a few feet away from the three. They were all still for a second, frozen where they were. Kevin was the first one to react. He pushed them both, throwing them off of him.

“Kevin!!!”

He snatched the picture off the ground. “Ha!!! It’s mine!”

“No!!!” Ken yelled from behind them.

“Come on, Ken,” Jolie got up, “We gotta-!”

Kevin ripped the photo, making sure they wouldn’t be able to use it against him. It made a loud ripping sound.

Jolie gasped. Ken was livid, “You asshole.”

“Whoops!” Kevin snickered, “Nice try with your stupid revenge.” He was seeing red. They just tried to ruin everything for him. Now it was time for him to return the favor. “But now it’s my turn. And you’re gonna be sorry!” He laughed at the thought of it. Kevin was gonna savor this moment.

“Damn, were you seriously dating this guy?”

“Yeahhh. Don’t remind me.” Jolie said. But Kevin knew that he was the best thing to happen to her in her sad, pathetic life.

But before he could even start teaching these losers a lesson, Kevin heard a loud banging noise. And then another. And another.

He looked to his right, still confused. But then the realization hit. The bookshelves were toppling over. And Kevin was right in their path. He didn’t get a chance to move before a shelf came straight towards him, trapping Kevin underneath.

He didn't remember anything after that until he woke up in the hospital.

When he did wake up, there was an officer, nurse, and the school’s counselor Miss Wendy in the room.

They asked for his story, and if Kevin couldn’t get his revenge before, he was going to now.

He told them that his girlfriend named Jolie and a guy named Ken attacked him in the library. He left out the part about why, making up some random excuse as to why the fight actually happened.

Kevin probably should’ve been more upset about this whole situation. He’s pretty much over with his girlfriend. But it didn’t matter too much.

She was just a plaything, after all.

Apparently, there was another guy involved in the whole thing. And they were in detention and would be there for a long time.

When they were done with the interrogation, the counselor was the only one left in the room. “I do hope you get better soon. If you need anyone to talk to or if you’re having trouble with anyone, feel free to talk to me. I’ll handle it.” She went to leave the room, but called out to him, “Oh, and you got some flowers when you were out. Not sure who they’re from.” And with that, she left him alone.

Kevin looked over at the table next to his bed, seeing some kind of flower arrangement, with an envelope.

The first sense of dread he felt was when he realized that it was a mix of every type of flower he had gotten Jolie while they dated. He grabbed the envelope and ripped it open. Kevin felt his stomach drop.

The picture of him and Mariah kissing was taped back together. Kevin picked it up with trembling hands, the heart monitor attached to him beeping even faster. When he flipped it over, he swore he was dreaming.

See you at school!
