   Summary

   Gerard can see both divine and damned spirits. With the divine's help, he can cure the ill -an ability that the church begins to abuse. As the damned spirits begin to close in, Gerard falls pray to their wishes and suffers body-altering effects that strip away his humanity. If the impure spirits of the town are vanquished, surely, Gerard thinks, the impure spirits will leave him alone.
   The only one that knows about Gerard's damned spirits is Frank; he trusts that they're under control. That is, until people show up mutilated and maimed beyond recognition and Gerard is beginning to act really strange.
