Hopeless screams rose above the thick clouds of smoke that filled the air. Across the barren wasteland, warriors and the ones they had meant to protect made their beds in the blankets of ash that coated their once prosperous homeland.
At the top of her ivory tower watched the goddess, her beauty as devastating as the destruction she left in her wake. The loyal servant wept at her feet as one by one each of the four kingdoms fell, begging her to spare the survivors, or what little was left of them.
“And what will you give to me in return?” She paused, feigning contemplation, the smile on her face never reaching her eyes.
The servant pleaded, “Anything. Take everything that’s mine, just. Please - save them."
The flames rose higher and higher, the sky painted red as the bloody battlefield below. The deity raised her hand, tilting the servant’s chin with the tips of her fingers, a cruel glint in her eyes. “Do you swear it? Anything?”
“On my life.” Her servant promised. How could someone with such an innocent disposition be such a vicious creature?
The goddess' gaze turned to the miserable scene before her as she stroked her servant's tear-stained cheek. “Stay by my side, and I will protect your people.”
The girl blinked. “My lady?”
”Stay with me.”
