Work Text:
Tin woodman's tin castle was full of rooms, some for his guests, some for his servants and of course some for himself ,recently the one room he was using the most often was his magnificent Tin library, not reading the numerous books that could be found there but writting, as soon as the sun went down and all his servants sleeped he would sit in his tin desk and would write all night just to get frustrated, rip all his hard work to shreds and start all over the next night, this had been going on for a week and every day he grew closer and closer to giving up, his closest friend and sweetheart the Scarecrow would visit him soon and he wanted to surprise him with a love song made just for him, but it seemed impossible to get the lyrics right.
it was the middle of the night and Tin woodman once again had finished yet another version of the song, he frowned dissapointed ,it was still not good enough, he was about to rip it apart when suddenly one of his servants entered the library ''the wise Scarecrow of oz has arrived and he is awaiting your presence in the throne room '' said the drowsy servant who had woken up to let Scarecrow into the castle, the news startled him so much he droped the ink all over his desk, Scarecrow was supposed to arrive in three more days and Tin woodman was unprepared, he got up of his chair and away of the ink puddle that covered part of the desk and now part of the floor as quickly as he could, getting ink on himself would only make the situacion worst ''dont worry sir, i will clean this up, dont let Scarecrow waiting'' said the servant ''oh thank you, before i go, did i spill any ink on me? am i still shiny?'' said Tin woodman anxiously checking himself ''you are as bright as ever sir'' said the servant carefully removing the paper from the desk ''thanks, i better get going then'' and off he went, he looked at himself on a big corridor mirror before entering the room and fixed the tin flower in his chest (I wish i could have at least polished...) he tought.
Scarecrow greeted him with a loving embrace ''Nick my dear i am so glad to see you, the journey was so calm i arrived sooner than expected'' he said joyfully putting his arms around his lover's shoulders ''i missed you so much my love'' said Tin woodman hugging him back enthusiastically, he put his hands around his waist and kissed him as passionately as someone with tin lips could kiss, when they separated to Tin woodman's dismay he realiced they were not alone, the Sawhorse was standing close to the doorway, staring at them unsure if he should say something ''oh, uh, hello Sawhorse, today's night is specially lovely isnt it?'' said Tin woodman embarrased as he was not used to kissing with an audience present ''its a lovely night indeed, I know where the guest rooms are so i think its best i let you two have some privacy'' responded the Sawhorse, and off he went before any of the two ozites had time to say anything, ''well, now that you are here, why don't we take a walk in my gardern? my tin smiths have recently made some lovely aditions to it and i would like to show them to you'' said Tin woodman relaxing a bit, Scarecrow smiled ''i would love to''.
The Tin woodman's garden was big and beautiful, bright yellow flowers of all sizes and shapes made contrast with the green bushes and grass, Scarecrow walked beside Tin woodman his clumsy cloth hand tenderly locked with his lover's tin hand, Scarecrow was well acquainted with this garden as he had visited it quite often but it was just as beautiful as the first time he saw it, maybe even more beautiful than ever as he was walking with his sweetheart , soon enough they arrived at a very peculiar tin flower bed, filled with tin marygolds, tin violets, tin carnations and a big tin bush filled with delightful tin roses, all of them skillfully crafted and gently shining under the moonlight, Scarecrow was impressed ''They are splendid, i would not expect anything less from the winkies!'' ''im glad you like them, i specially like the marygolds and i plan to save the seeds when they button so i can have even more of them''.
their conversation was interrupted by the arrival of the Tin woodman's servant who had the still not quite perfect love song in his hand (oh no) tought Tin woodman ''I have cleaned the spilled ink emperor, the bottom of one of the sheets got stained but the work itself is perfectly intact'' the servant yawned as he gave the imperfect work back to its author ''i will go back to bed now, i wish you two a good night'' and back he went to the castle leaving the two lovers alone in the garden once again.
Scarecrow looked the sheets with curiosity ''oh ,have you been working on something? is it for the upcoming birthday party of princess Ozma?'' he asked trying to take a peek of the sheets's content, Tin woodman stuttered ''well, you see...''he lowered his sight embarrased ''i wanted to gift you a song but i dont know...its still not quite right'' Scarecrow laughed light hearted ''oh come on, im dying to hear it'' he put his soft stuffed arm around the Tin woodman and got as close as he could ''I love to hear you sing...'' he mindlessly played with the tin flower in his lover's chest ''wont you please sing for me...?'' whispered Scarecrow, there was no way the Tin woodman could say no to this request and even tought he was not confident, he agreed to sing the song.
The Tin woodman sat on the soft grass of the garden and next to him layed his equally strange lover, his voice was low and metalic, both the melody and the lyrics were packed with tenderness and so much yearning he had put all his sweet toughts about the scarecrow in one very romantic and slow paced song, Tin woodman performed as best as he usually did yet he was dying of anxiety (Is it too much? is the rythm off? i hope he dosent think its sickly sweet...) he tought, but the Scarecrow could not be more overjoyed, he rested his face against his hands dreamily sighing at the beautiful song made just for him by the man he loved the most, when the Tin woodman finished singing Scarecrow sat down and clapped enthusiastically even tough his claps made no noise Tin woodman apreciated it immensely ''I loved it like you have no idea my dear, you have such a way with words, and the melody was just beautiful'' said Scarecrow his eyes half closed lovingly looking at his sweetheart ''it was not my best work, i wish i could have edited more'' said the Tin woodman flustered ''well i liked it regardless of editing, oh i almost forgot, i made something for you too'' he said, Tin woodman looked at Scarecrow with curiosity as he searched for something in his jacket's pocket, he gasped when the Scarecrow pulled a folder piece of paper ''did you write a poem...for me?'' said the Tin woodman covering his mouth surprised, Scarecrow smiled brightly ''and i will write many more'' The scarecrow did not even get to the second verse before Tin woodman bursted into tears, but he expected that reaction ,he knew how sensitive Tin woodman was and so he continued reciting the love poem as he gently dried the tears off his lover's eyes with his hands, and he would gladly do so a million times.
